I own 3, T440p Thinkpads. Most easily upgradable computer ever. VERY easy, and a better performer than the T440. Biggest differences between them: CPU is socketed and upgradeable in the T440p. As for the sound: did you tried lowering the master and not the RUclips volume? I don't have the T440p here, so, I can see if the distortion goes away.
Thanks for the video! I need a cheap laptop for Excel task, I use a macbook pro for my everyday task but prefer the windows version... might be what I need!

Ok, so you are trying to replace your damaged screen? In this case you need to open up your laptop and see exactly your screen model. If you don't do this, you have high chances of buing a wrong screen.
Thank you for this excellent comparison, I was about to check a T440P but after viewing your video, I think I'll pass! What is most surprising to me is that such a small difference in name would result in totally different machines, technology wise. It's as if they were made by different companies!!! The T440 is very interesting for its two batteries, I imagine one can replace batteries on the fly on this model? It would have been nice to spend a bit more time on this unusual aspect. However considering this feature, I would have expected easier cover removal like with the T440P. I find carbon fiber an improvement over glass fiber for the cover so I find the T440 wins out here, but it's all relative in the end, how much a difference does it make in weight? Screen wise, the T440 has visible flicker and seem much nicer to look at whereas the screen on the T440P looks duller and too greenish. But the T440 is ever so slightly bluish and has visible flicker, perhaps due to interference your camera refresh rate. The screen color tests are a bit misleading because your camera compensated for them - just look how magenta your background wall appears in this part of the video. Yet the T440P screen still looks greenish, I can imagine how much greener it looks in reality, whereas the T440 almost looks perfect with its slight purplish cast but will probably look much more bluish once the magenta color balance is compensated for. I'm watching this video on a color calibrated, graphics grade NEC monitor, BTW. The main drawback with both laptops is how narrow the screens are - on the T440 I'd consider this simply unworkable considering the main use for portable machines is reading and answering emails and word processing. Besides, it's been proven that the angle of vision of human eyesight is closer to 4:3 or 3:2 than the 16:9 we have to suffer with nowadays... And is the main reason I still use my 4:3 ratio T42... It has the same vertical height as my modern narrow screen 17" laptop, for less than half the weight and twice the battery longevity! Keypads: I find most illuminated keypad aggravating because of the light spill around the keys - I have that on on my 17" machine but much prefer the ThinkLight of my T42, it works perfectly well under dim conditions like when traveling and you don't want to keep the person next to you awake. So the backlit keyboard on these machine are a step back IMO. Ah well. One day manufacturers will manage to make keyboards with much softer illumination that doesn't spill around the keys. How does the "Chiclet" keyboard compare in actual use with the old style keyboards that the ThinkPads are so famous for? Quietness and longevity is a must on small laptops you'd use on the go so I think the T440 would probably win here. VGA connectors?! An HDMI port would have been much more useful there considering every hotel TV has such a port. Of course one would expect a DisplayPort but you're quickly running out of options with such small machines. Yeah, that's the main drawback with my old T42 as well. Sound has never been good on laptops - it's simply impossible to make laptops sound good unless they are thick and bulky. For presentations with only the human voice, they're OK though. Again, thanks for this excellent presentation. Kudos!
Thank you for your appreciation! The flicker was because of the frame rate, but I see this problem way more on Lenovo laptops compared with any other brand. Probably because of some weird way they deal with the pwm to dim the display down. About the color correction of my camera, you are right, it was doing it, but you got the main ideea the right way. The keyboards...well...I'm not really good at this, because I can type on anything without noticing too many differences. But I think they lost the feel of the old ones. Sound can be done right, or at least better. I worked on some Dell Vostros that sounded way better. Also a ThinkPad Carbon X1 sounded way, way better. But probably more space was used for the speakers in those and for sure the speakers cost more. So I'm thinking they decide during design stage what that laptip will be used mostly for and concentrate on that. As for aspect ratio....wide is just stupid for anything not related to multimedia. I work as a mecanical designer in Catia and we all have wide screens, that do not help at all. But try to find a 4:3 big screen monitor if you can...
@JohnnyJim J Depends on what you like/want. I prefer the T440p. In actuality, they have the SAME screen options. You can upgrade to 1920x1080 if you like. Takes less than 5 minutes to DIY.
