I was very much in the enjoy camp from D1 up until a couple seasons ago. While I have enjoyed my time with it, there were always little issues. With the seasonal model, the issues (for me) became more prominent over time. The sameness of each season (newish activity, revisit old location/event, rinse/repeat) made me burn out on the game. Removing the seasonal increasing of power levels made me realize i dont need to do weekly playlists, which shortened my game time even more. So now i just do the weekly story when i feel like or just play what I want to play. I still enjoy my time with the game. But i have also had time to play other games. Which i love too. Keep up the great work Myelin. I've always enjoyed your stuff on here and Twitch.
For real, the best decision bungie made was making the grind not be a seasonal thing. Just playing and enjoying the game for its own sake leads to a much healthier playstyle, it's really liberating just logging on and playing what you want and not what you feel like you have to do.
Honestly, I haven't been able to keep up with Destiny due to life, so tbh I'm loving this dry spell, gives me a chance to catch up and play content that I'd fallen behind on. Maybe the key to enjoying D2 is healthy separation and slowing down that mass consumption
The only issue with that is the game’s seasonal model doesn’t allow that of you’ve been away for longer than a season, since most of the content is ephemeral.
I restarted a Skyrim playthrough to try out the Nolvus modlist instead of playing Destiny for the past month or so, it's been a refreshing change of pace. Also for skyrim fans that have a capable PC, holy shit nolvus is so good.
I took a break from destiny over the last bit basically only getting on to do raids and the weekly story whenever I felt like it. I’ve been playing modded Skyrim, the finals, palworld, satisfactory, Minecraft etc. But I’m having a ton of fun catching up and trying to get everything crafted before the next expansion. The main thing is to have a healthy relationship with the game. :)
You forgot the 4th type of D2 player. The people who gave up on playing the game a long time ago, but keep up with the story updates through content creators like you
For me personally, this season has broke me when it comes to the narrative. It genuinely feels like Savathun only exists as a safety net for the writers. Her entire plan in Witch Queen was to prevent the Witness linking with the Veil. She was so clairvoyant, that she foresaw the potential need follow the Witness inside the Traveler if it linked with the Veil. Yet she never made a plan to prevent her from failing in Witch Queen? Or a plan to defeat Eris if Eris went rouge last season? Why would she have not just used the 15th Wish to guarantee the success of her plan during Witch Queen? It also makes no sense why the Witness didn’t just touch the Traveler during the collapse to find out where the Veil is. He knew EXACTLY where it was when he touched it during Light Fall. What could Savathun do to trick him? It genuinely makes no sense. Savathun used to be my favorite character but she is honestly a detriment to the story and lore at this point. She has felt like nothing but a plot device since we defeated her in Witch Queen.
the reason it didn't happen during the collapse is because the traveler scarified itself. with this the traveler kind of went to sleep . because it was sleeping the witness couldn't sense it. might have thought it was dead.
This is stupid because the witness could just, you know, go back to Earth and check if the Traveler was there or not, dead or not. But he just waits (undisclosed period of time) for the Red War to wake it up again before even trying to return to Earth.@@Vextral4653
Not gonna lie but damn I find myself just gravitating to your lore videos and watching them multiple times and then going to Byf😂. Something about your paint explanations and something else I cannot explain just speaks to me. You and who shall not be named( starts whith the letter A that I watch their reactions to you)need to catch your streams.
Idk if they’re going to have a final mission event nearer to the final shape. I would assume so as Mara has to create the link with Crowe but I hope that happens during this season and not in the Final Shape because this is the final season of the light and dark saga. Season of the Seraph had such a kickass and incredible ending with a foreboding cutscene at the end of the pyramid fleet entering. Be a sham if we didn’t have something like that
The world would feel so much more alive if the only things you encounter weren't the same enemies on every destination. Having random ahamkara pop up might breathe actual life into the game. Every destination feels the same right now
i dont lover every bit of content d2 put out but generally i enjoy it for the story and play to finish seasonal quests but lately i decide not to play before even opening the game, im not a big grinder and even im a little burnt out it seems, i cant wait for the final shape to bring me back to daily play
Went from a passionate player at least got on once a week. Ever since Plunder I've been apathetic. Bought base lightfall, and I dove even deeper into apathy. Havent played for 11 months.
Yeah I like to keep tabs, I'd love to bee back for Final Shape if it's of Taken King/Foraaken/Witch Queen quality. Destiny is like when quitting a drug. It still has a place in my mind and heart. Since I played it so long, so thinking on it and checking to see if things have improved is what I'll be doing.(was going hop off after Final Shape anyway. All good things, and all that jazz)
It is a shame that the state of affairs as a whole has discouraged you from playing the game in a more public way, but i do understand why. Still, im glad youve been enjoying other things, Monster Hunter especially!
I am just tuned out of destiny, I liked the weapon perks and first person stuff but my issues are thus: 1, Bounties are handled not as stats that are tracked and expended in various vendors but as purchased things that can maybe overlap. 2, Builds don't let you sacrifice up time or interact with functionality beyond specific armor or niche options. 3, The story Ping-Pong's between universe scale politics and hitting up the jukebox with the 10' crome bois 4, The core playlists, and especially strikes, have no effort to keep them updated or to rotate in themes/events.
The moaning minute part was interesting because I was banned from chat because of that topic. I, someone whose watched myelin on RUclips for years, hadn’t ever caught a stream but followed him when he was offline because support, happened to catch him live and jumped in. What I encountered was the most unhinged, rage-filled, ridiculously charged commentary about the storyline for season of the witch - which was a huge shift from the personality that comes across on RUclips. When I commented “what’s going on? Why are you criticizing the storyline so harshly?” I was immediately banned and ridiculed for an hour by chat and then a 15 minute tirade by Mr. games himself about me being a shitter who just wants to stir the pot. Like the literally definition of rage-baiting. When I appealed the ban after 15/30 minutes he laughed on stream and said “fuck you, denied.” So… while he’s definitely right about the 3 groups, he’s definitely not in the Apathy side. And watching his content shift has been nice because it opened up the door for other popular lore streamers to fill the space that didn’t come with the rage. I didn’t disagree with his opinions/critiques at all, but they were not emblematic of his YT personality at all or his “healthy community goals” and that was jarring. Additionally, to be attacked like that for asking a question said to me that Myelin isn’t actually a good member of the community anymore. Which is probably why a few streamers have stopped playing with him or mentioning him. Anyways - Peace
I haven't touched this game in weeks. Spent some quality time with Monster Hunter: World, Cyberpunk 2077 and now Enshrouded. Edit: I'll play Destiny again when I feel like it. The FOMO is real, but that's just the way Bungie rolls. Can't be helped. == Apathy.
Im kinda all three in the diagram, i still enjoy playing destiny. I know theres nothing i can do when certain changes happen, But im quick to point out things i dont like.
Until we get an answer I’m gonna keep complaining about this. Why were the shadow Cabal and darkness forces kidnapping humans in the first season of the year?
Today my girlfriend came up to me with her new book that was just released. The third crescent city by Sarah J Mass, and before she read it she listed off these theories about what she thought was going to happen. Then showed her friend group created a “bingo card” of lore theories that may come to pass. That group fandom that brought the group together was something that immediately brought me back to my old memories of the ol crew I had with destiny. We use to theory craft while watching lore channels, we all had our own favorites. For some it was Byf, others it was evade, for me it was Myelin. We would go from DLC to DLC then eventually from season to season grouping up and talking about what opinions and theories we could see. Some of us were spot on and others were way off. But that was the fun. Destiny’s story was the core of the entertainment for us. The gameplay being a looter shooter was never something that kept us in the game. It was playing with the brotherhood of lore nerds in a game that captivated us. Sometime around season of the arrivals there was an obvious shift. While the story was still good, it never felt like how it use to be. Shortly, over the seasons, one by one members starting losing love and dropped out of our group to peruse other games. With the story becoming more watered down it became harder to get people to come back to the start of a new DLC or new season. Until ultimately I was the only one left playing. That’s when I joined myelins discord and met an amazing group of people who still lived to theory craft and play the game. I found my love for the game and story and felt like I was back where I belonged. And then Lightfall released. It was the poor storytelling, poor gameplay loop, obvious lessons not learned from previous mistakes that put me to my tipping point for the game I invested the better part of a decade into. But it wasn’t until I realized that the majority of the community (not myelins although there are a few stinkers in there) who thinks it’s trendy to shit on all things destiny, good or bad, as if they critiquing a Nickelback album, as if they’re afraid to say anything positive in fear they will be hurt again. So I said to myself, “why do I play a game where the gameplay is no longer fun, the story is not longer great, and the community is largely despicable?”. That’s when I quit destiny. I keep up to date with the lore due to the time investment, and general interest in how things will end. But it seems it will never again be like how it used to be, or how it is with my girlfriend and her books. So now here I am, destiny still installed but never played, waiting week to week to see if there is something that will light that fire within me to passionately play this game again. Until then, I’ll stay tuned.
So I just recently left Destiny 2. Like a week ago. When I couldn’t go flawless this past time trials was around. I had enough. My clan mates rarely play now. I was just in orbit most of the time. I kept getting .5s on my time the whole time. Well anyways started playing genshin impact. And it was great. I don’t play other games other than destiny. So I was scared to start something else in fear of missing out. And the years I spent in Destiny. But I’ll tell you something. I am glad I started something else. I feel better. I love this new thrill.
