  • Handling comparison between the almighty 819 hp Ferrari 296 GTB and the new 2024 740 hp McLaren 750S. The basis of this analysis is derived from my personal first impressions from tracking these two amazing cars for the first time ever. Having been in the supercar market myself, this puts me in the unique position to share with all of you my 100% unbiased opinion of how they compare. The context for this breakdown is not focused on shear lap times, however its based on FEEL. How are they as track cars for the average enthusiast? Stay tuned for part two, which features the hot laps between both the Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren 750S in order to gain lap time measures. I hope you enjoy!
I hope you enjoy this coverage. It is the culmination of traveling across the United States and taking these extremely sought after vehicles onto the racetrack to visually show you how they perform. A lot of effort, money, and time goes into the production of the videos. I really appreciate you watching!

I'm putting together a point rating system on a spreadsheet to share with everyone. The cars featured will be the hundreds of reviews we've had the opportunity to make here on this channel. Cars included will be along the likes of the new Ford GT, 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Ferrari 296 GTB, etc...
For some examples of how the point system classifies vehicles, check out leaders below:
10/10 refers to the best possible in the class. (Ex. Carbon Fiber Tubs for Chassis)
10/10 for acceleration would be the equivalent of a Tesla Model S Plaid.
10/10 for weight would be mid-to-high 2,000 lbs. (Ex. Mazda Miata)
10/10 for downforce would be an Aston Martin Valkyrie
As you can see, the points rating system is proportionate to benchmarks in each segment. For more information on how I'd personally rate these vehicles, please stay tuned for my spreadsheet to launch (which features hundreds of performance cars stacked up against each other).

I would bet the acceleration in the 296 is better than the 750s. That car is fast. Dragtimes and carwow showed this v. Other McLarens, including the 765lt (a much better performing and looking car) But....hard to argue with your other points, though.

From what I see in the video. The 296 is in Performance mode, not Qualifying mode even though in the video it's said the car is in qualifying mode. The red flag on the wheel is Performance mode. If he was in Qualifying mode you would see a stop watch on the wheel instead of the flag. Also, he's in Sport mode for the transmission and suspension, not Race mode which makes a big difference too. Basically he was running the car with about 40hp less than it has and also in the mode for road driving and not for track.

@Swish.s4 I never mentioned anything about speed. Although, they're about neck and neck. Simply different approaches to automobiles. So McLaren, while although admittedly incredible performance machines, are not "better" cars. In my, and many other automotive enthusiast's opinion, Ferrari is the superior car, overall. Despite 750S having wider/softer front track (for more bite @ the corner) and stiffer rear (to help the rear rotate) over the 720S, it is still showing more understeer than I would like on the limit.
Testing these @ 2 different tracks on different days is not what one can call a comparison. In an ideal world, we would have these two on the same truck (same time/temps) and on the same new tire compound as these factors can make a hell of the difference to the handling.
Having said that I did enjoy the in car footage, found it informative.

Hey Austin I’ve been a big fan of your videos and commentary and an even bigger McLaren fan, having owned them since 2013, including 12C/570S/600LT/675LTS/and a 720 Spider and I generally prefer them to other brands just in terms of driving but I’ve spent some time in the new 296GTB and in my opinion it’s the best challenger to the brand yet. The short wheelbase offers more incredible agility thet masks its weight disadvantage remarkably, the V6 engine sounds far better and has a more distinctive sound as it goes through the revs compared to the McLaren, also I think the car is absolutely on par with 750S based on published 1/4 mile times. Either way, if given the choice I’m probably going McLaren strictly in terms of driving dynamics but this 296 runs it a lot closer than I believe you may have given it credit for.

Neither Ferrari or McLarens chassis is based on ANY race series chassis. You cannot buy a race series chassis car from either. The Corvette C8 is based on its now defunct GTLM series race cars. Lighter is better, but it is always more expensive as well. Very few people can exploit 800 hp cars on the track to begin with if the track is more than 2 straighaways.
