      Root Beer is actually very much isolated to North America... as odd as it seems to us almost everyone else can't stand it because of the medicinal/herbal quality of the flavor. If you look you can find similar reactions from Irish people doing similar taste tests.

      Honestly, after watching a few soda-drinking videos where root beer is involved...I'm starting to think root beer is this weird American thing that literally no other country is familiar with or likes. I'll drink root beer if there's no orange soda or if I'm not feeling Sprite, and I'm perfectly happy. I don't really understand the whole "tastes like cough syrup" thing at all. It tastes like root beer. Kind of puts things in perspective when you try other culture's food & drink. The best comparison I can make is how Marmite/Vegemite is. Americans never eat it and often have to "aquire the taste" for it. I guess this is how it is for other people and root beer!

    • @Pr0fessorScience
      @Pr0fessorScience 6 лет назад

      +CapnHMCrunch it seems like in a lot of other countries, root-based OTC cough syrups are fairly common. People have them a lot as kids, so they think of root and bark tastes as medicinal (the same way some Americans are really turned off by certain fake cherry or banana flavors due to the common use of a particular OTC cough syrup and a particular liquid antibiotic). I think birch beer probably would have been a smarter choice for a first-timer than root beer, since the flavor is almost a blend of root beer and cream soda.

    Root beers vary in taste a LOT, though, and Barq's is deliberately pretty far out of the norm for taste. It's pretty much my least-favorite root beer. If they liked cream soda, there are several root beers that taste similar.

    • @PetitePoulette247
      @PetitePoulette247 8 лет назад +3

    • @genjii931
      @genjii931 8 лет назад

      +Petite Poulette It's probably very hard to find root beer in Asia, so I doubt they have much variety. My favorite mass brand is Mug, but if in the States, Thomas Kemper, Henry Weinhardt, and Americana are my favorite bottled brands. Very smooth. A special one I can only find at one place is Dang! brand butterscotch root beer, which is amazing.

    Root beer has Horehound in it, which is an herb that was used to treat coughs and congestion. Have them take a sip of root beer and Dr Pepper again, but have them think about the vanilla flavor. it will cause vanilla to become more apparent in the taste of the beverage.

      +BloodRedWolf the Crimson Tinge so true tho, i really can't stand buzzfeeds rudeness lol. it's totally unnecessary to be rude to people's favorite food/drinks etc. I prefer polite answers like in this video tbh

    • @TimDespain
      @TimDespain 8 лет назад +2

      +BloodRedWolf the Crimson Tinge I absolutely agree here. I watched a BuzzFeed vid a few months ago where first generation Chinese immigrants and their American-born children tried Chinese-inspired American cuisine, and the older generation was very amicable about the food they tried while the second generation turned their noses up at it. It was shameful.
      It's vital to cultural cooperation to understand that personal taste is not synonymous with personal preference.
