    The mom of that young Ms patient is the best mom. So hard to watch your child progress in their disease.

    I have seen this episode so any times and each time I watch my respect for Mark's Mum just grows. This lady is the epitome of a good Mum and I can see where Mark gets his fighting spirit from. The three ladies have a great friendship and they were funny.

      I think it is necessary sometimes that the medical staff address this issue with the close family. I have the greatest sympathy with this poor mother because she has made caring for her son her main priority. He has been getting steadily worse and she needs to know that there comes a time when you have to realise that despite everyone's best efforts your loved ones suffering can't be prolonged any further. It would be best to let him go. There is no kind or easy way to say this.

    The doctor who comes in to talk to Mark's mother, I feel went about it the wrong way. She was pushing for NFR, and it's not her decision. I understand medically she has to present the situation to the family, but she didn't ask what their wishes were.

  • @theresagura74

    That Dr. is very stupid. You DO NOT discuss no resuscitation in front of the patient.

    • @dm607
      @dm607 4 дня назад +4

      Yes you do! Patients have every right to be aware of the situation no matter how good or bad it is.

      @@dm607 for sure. About 4 years ago, my then 29 year old son, had MRSA and went into septic shock, then multi-organ failure. The doctors asked him that very question. He told them yes. He eventually ended up on a ventilator for a month. During that time, we almost lost him twice. Thankfully he pulled through.

      From experience - you must know the battle to face it & fight! I was surprised at how much fight I had in me. My heart went in V-tac 4 times & I died, but came back to an uphill battle in ICU 10 days, but won! I just got 3 stents put in my heart, & am living my life! Full disclosure is the best way. Look - he fought back for 5 weeks & won that battle.💪

    The nurse telling the mother of the son with MS what she should do and they shouldn't resuscitate etc is absolutely unacceptable! That is not how you have these conversations!!!! This us a life! Someone's child and she's so arrogant and cold. It's disgusting.

      It sounds like Mark's MS is secondary progressive. He might have already told his mum what he'd prefer in certain situations.

      Are you a critical care nurse? What would you have Fran do -- give them false hope? These types of conversations are necessary because many patients and families have totally unrealistic concepts of what medical care and cannot do. I've been there with both my parents and also a close friend, and it's about hard but necessary statements. Fran didn't demand they give up, just that they should be aware of possible outcomes. But hey, you do you, Boo.

    I prefer doctors telling about the DNR option. And no, family is still better than friends i think, as blood is thicker than water, in most instances.

    • @AuskaDezjArdamaath

      The actual saying is the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. So friends can indeed before closer than the family you’re born into.
