One thing to consider in turning on the limiter: Not only is most dance music hella limited to begin with, but the limiter also uses extra processing power, which can mean the difference being able to audition tracks and mixes while analyzing other tracks if you are using a slightly slower computer, or having to do it a day ahead. (With the limiter off, turn the master down a bit and keep an ear out for clipping.)
been on tractor for 2 years now.. setting a limiter on the master..?? had nooo idea. was thinking of bridging ableton for certain compression and limiting capabilities but this just made my doing that much better, you're the MAN

Hello, just installed pro 2 and seen this vid, i noticed I dont have the option to set autogain when loading track, i simply have enable autogain!!!! which doesnt seem to work at all, any ideas??
You should check out DJ Endo's videos on the preferenced thru dubspot! He has like a 4 part video series with 3 of the parts finished very helpful as well.
Second point is on the 'reset deck mixer controls'. Why is that bad? It only applies to the deck you are loading a new track into, so that saves a lot of time if you've dropped out the bass or used other filters, or am I missing something here? Cheers and keep up the good work.

I was messing around with traktor today, and I ended up having to turn off the limiter. Controlling it externally, I noticed the volume seemed to be uncontrollable on my mixer since traktor was adjusting it as I played? I dunno. Maybe I was just hearing things, but has anyone had similar issues while mixing externally?

I just got my hands on Kontrol S8 2nd hand. Everything seems to be working just fine. The only hip cup I got is that I cannot cue my songs. I try the Reference panel and a bunch of configurations there but no avail. My question is; Do I need an external card in order to be able to cue (listen thru my headphones) my tracks? This is the only problem I have today. No cueing thru Traktor S8. Oh, BTW, the headphones logo in the software is solid grey and by clicking at it doesn't do anything. SMH...Thanks Ean, I loved and check your videos, always.
Ean great tutorials, but don't really agree on couple of tips here. Hope you can clarify. First is the 'stop track at playback, agreed don't let the track stop but surely its better (and faster) to hit a hot cue button instead of the move (beatjump) if a track ends, because you have to have all the move settings set up right to do that? Personally if I'm running out of time at the end of a track and the new mix isn't ready, i buy time by kicking in a loop from the track. (continues)
If I want to use turntables with Traktor do I really have to have Traktor Scratch Pro 2? Because i already have traktor pro 2 (of course i have to buy an audiointerface and the timecode vinyls, but my questions is just about the software)

this was a great vid Ean! i recently got the deal of a lifetime and purchased a brand new S8 for $200 so ive been switching over to traktor and been completely lost in a lot of aspect of the software since it has wayyy more stuff than serato. ive been looking at all the settings and everything and im not too sure what all of them do and been watching vids to learn and this vid has deff been extremely helpful so thanks. been following djtt since the beginning and always look forward to seeing whats new on the site so keep it up!
+Alucard whats up bro.. just seen your comment and figured id drop you a line. I had bought my little brother a ddj sb2 and it didn't work so we had to go to the store to order a new unit. While I was there doing the paper work this kid walks inn trying to sale his s8 to the store but they weren't buying any gear at the moment. So outta curiosity I asked him how much he wanted for it he said he didn't know but he would give it to me for next to nothing. So I said to him ok whats your next to nothing price and he said $200. So I asked the guy at the store if I could plug it inn where they had their demo s8 to see if it worked and sure enough it lit right up and worked with no problems. So I asked the kid selling it why the low price he said the was a family emergency and he needed money asap. So I paid him the $200. Guess I was at the right place at the right time.
Really nice video! One thing I find very annoying is that every time I need to do my beatgrids I have to change from Tempo Sync to Beat Sync manually, so that each time I move the grid around, Traktor syncs the song again to the grid. In Tempo Sync mode, we need to un-sync and sync again. How annoying is that!!

noticed a small fallacy. if you have "stop playback at end of track" unchecked the "loading only into stopped deck" function does not work unless you manually stop the track

+DJ TechTools - I've been trying to use my USB headphones to work with TP2. Research has shown me to use ASIO4ALL, however, I can't make both monitors and headphones to pump out sound. If I go to A4ALL options, I can enable my USB headphones simultaneously with my monitors, however, in TP2 sound input options, it only shows my monitors L&R and doesn't show my USB headphones. Any idea how to properly set these up? quick question I'm having a ton of problems with tk2 collection giving me errors on every song I want to play saying is corrupted or missing or can't be played, I know my music is all good cause I buy it from promo only so corrupted? don't think so... I have trouble with finding my Traktor midi out 0..It is gone very time I turn my TB3 and my Traktor S4 on, so I kind of not know what to do, so I put a track thinking it might be a reason, then I go into my computer midi setting and ask it to find the midi instruments and i pull little lines for my virtual s4 into my virtual TB3 and then it works. I am not sure what I do right or wrong as I kind of do many things and it eventually works.. I would like to know what is the right way. Am i making my self clear or I might have to talk live to you lol . not easy as I am french canadian lol

I'm trying to do samples on the sample decks but they work like the samples on vdj where you have to press once to turn it on and press again to turn it off, so i can't do the tipical horn thing sound fast... can you tell me how to change that? nice tips but i never use autogain its good foor beginner but im mixing for 12years and for me it keep me busy in my proces also i mixed on the pioneer djm 300 when i started long ago and now im used to keep a look on those uv meters that they dont go in red also i can prepare my song so fast in less than 20 seconds or so take gaining away and i have track of 5 minutes im just sitting there doing nothing and limiter you have your main volume button who controls the exiting music never put the main volume to much open so your sound keeps clean all the time off course other people have maybe other preferences :) grtz

I have a Mac, numark mixdeck, and latest tracktor 2 programs...when I playback a recording, I hear both tracks even when fader is to only one track, it sounds great live, but on playback you can hear me Q ing up other tracks! +Nilson Diaz Maybe your audio latency setting is too low. Go into your Traktor settings and increase it to see if that helps. You might also need to do some optimizations to your computer like disabling unused devices like WIFI, DVDrom, and many other things. You need to make sure you don't have a ton of other programs running in the background.
Ive just started with Traktor and in the process of setting my cue points - but Ive found that I cant set a cue point thats not in line with the grid, it keeps setting the cue to the nearest line - how can I set the cue points manually by sight/sound?
Yes it's pretty annoying isn't it? considering that you can be so precise so easily with Serato and set your cues where they belong and not snapped to the nearest random transient. there are a few ways and they do more than you think which is cool even though probably right now you just want your shit to start from the spot you want it to. There is a way - watch the dj podcast guy on cue points - he knows what he's doing. Also that Endo guy knows his shit inside and out upside down and explains everything without wasting a minute of your time.

Hi there ive been using traktor pro for about a year now with no problems,but just recently the last few times ive been djing the track thats playings suddenly the sound goes off as the track grind continues to move along,this has happen about 10 times now.Ive installed traktor again thinking it might be the softwear,but it has happened again,so i used another pc with new softwear and its happened again on my other pc,ive been told it might be due to the tracks not being analyzed,any idea what the problem could be,its happened when playing different tracks,at the start of the night and also towards the end of the night,i thought it was my pc but its happened on both now,with new softwear on both any help out there.

hi - in serato dj - when you press sync - it syncs tempos of the tracks BUT YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY MATCH THE PHASES (KICKS). In traktor - THERE IS NO OPTION TO MANUALLY MATCH THE PHASES??? Tempo sync and Beat sync both syncs the phases???
xXiamthecatXx I know what you mean (although I have never used Serato). Virtual DJ used to be different as well. You could press one button and it would match BPM only. A different button played the track and if you held the button down it would ‘drag’ the track into phase. With traktor, the sync button just matches BPM. When you press play, the fact that the track ‘snaps’ into phase is because of the ‘snap & quantize’ settings. These settings affect other things like cue points and loops so it’s best to have a play and see which setting suit you best. Have a read here: www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/quantize-and-snap.150892/ You can also, press sync, then hit play and turn sync off and the track will stay at the new 'matched' BPM but you will be in full manual control when dropping the track.

Regarding autogain, did they change something about it since this video was released because it works different here now.

+Nilson Diaz Maybe your audio latency setting is too low. Go into your Traktor settings and increase it to see if that helps.
You might also need to do some optimizations to your computer like disabling unused devices like WIFI, DVDrom, and many other things. You need to make sure you don't have a ton of other programs running in the background.

Ive just started with Traktor and in the process of setting my cue points - but Ive found that I cant set a cue point thats not in line with the grid, it keeps setting the cue to the nearest line - how can I set the cue points manually by sight/sound?
Be sure to unchecked 'snap to grid'.
Yes it's pretty annoying isn't it? considering that you can be so precise so easily with Serato and set your cues where they belong and not snapped to the nearest random transient. there are a few ways and they do more than you think which is cool even though probably right now you just want your shit to start from the spot you want it to. There is a way - watch the dj podcast guy on cue points - he knows what he's doing. Also that Endo guy knows his shit inside and out upside down and explains everything without wasting a minute of your time.
Hi ean =D thanks for all, I have the traktor audio 2 and a pair of denon sc 2000, I would like to use the audio 2 with all his performance, but what I should Have... a laptop (pc) or a MAC, what do you recommend?? (nowadays, I have a Intel pentium dual core, 2 gb ram, but with the traktor audio 2 in 44 hz and 1024 samples) .. I hope you can unsdertand my cuestion, thanks.

Hi there ive been using traktor pro for about a year now with no problems,but just recently the last few times ive been djing the track thats playings suddenly the sound goes off as the track grind continues to move along,this has happen about 10 times now.Ive installed traktor again thinking it might be the softwear,but it has happened again,so i used another pc with new softwear and its happened again on my other pc,ive been told it might be due to the tracks not being analyzed,any idea what the problem could be,its happened when playing different tracks,at the start of the night and also towards the end of the night,i thought it was my pc but its happened on both now,with new softwear on both any help out there.

hi - in serato dj - when you press sync - it syncs tempos of the tracks BUT YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY MATCH THE PHASES (KICKS). In traktor - THERE IS NO OPTION TO MANUALLY MATCH THE PHASES??? Tempo sync and Beat sync both syncs the phases???

I know what you mean (although I have never used Serato).
Virtual DJ used to be different as well.
You could press one button and it would match BPM only. A
different button played the track and if you held the button down it would ‘drag’
the track into phase. With traktor, the sync button just matches BPM.
When you press play, the fact that the track ‘snaps’ into
phase is because of the ‘snap & quantize’ settings.
These settings affect other things like cue points and loops
so it’s best to have a play and see which setting suit you best.

You can also, press sync, then hit play and turn sync off and the track will stay at the new 'matched' BPM but you will be in full manual control when dropping the track.
