im finding the pads so resistant like tough to push down compared to say the Korg nanocontrol etc. is this normal?? i got 2 on ebay want to resell them
Yes you can combine all of your gear. The setup and configuration will be different depending on what soundcard / mixer you use but you can control decks a + b with the midi controller, deck C can be maschine and Deck D can be the F1. You would just have to configure your audio outputs. Remember you can share the same audio output with 2 or more decks if you need to (example - sharing maschine and the F1 onto one channel, or even sharing both w/ a deck channel if you have 2 channel mixer)
You do not need a 4 channel mixer to use the Remix Decks, in fact in preferences - output routing you can COMBINE multiple decks onto one channel. So you can combine the Remix Deck (C) onto the same channel as track Deck A and the Remix Deck (D) on the same channel as track Deck B.
12 Years later - literally nothing has changed with the Remix Decks, and this video is still relevant. You're welcome! Haha! I just wish I got more in depth on how to capture samples. It's the only thing I didn't cover. :)
Are you in internal mixing mode or external? Make sure the sample isn't muted and the filters are in the middle. You won't be able to monitor individual samples in external mixing mode
LOVE IT!!! I HAVE AN S4 AND JUST GOT MY F1 !!! my son actually put me on to you guys he takes classes @ Dubspot in N.Y. I live in Miami though and their's just a hand full of us that have this down here can't wait to rock the F1 on my next Gig ..Thanks for the tutorial :)
Yes, if you hold shift and push the Browse button the F1 will go into MIDI mode where you can MIDI map any of the buttons or faders to control any software parameters in whatever program you're using.
Hey man, great question. The way to do this is you can right click (or ctrl click on mac) on a single file or a selected list of files in the explorer (in Traktor) and choose "Import to collection" - arrow over to where it says "Import as Looped Sample" and this will make all of your samples loops and should save the info to the file as well if you load it later on in the explorer.
DEFINITELY plan on getting this to pair with my S2. Looks like it really completes the setup and gives so much more versatility than with the S4 alone.
Oh now your showing of Endo, just watched the whole video of the chain bro.... Think i'm going to start saving my best samples per track in each slot like you have, nice one
The default Traktor key commands come with some functions for the remix decks, but if you really want to get geeky, try making your own key commands for the rmx decks. This is a great way to learn Traktor under the hood. Go to preferences, controller manager and this is where you can add / delete / edit your midi mappings and keyboard mappings. maybe try deleting traktor's keyboard mapping and creating a new generic keyboard device. Then go through the menus and figure out what each command does
You can actually capture loops from your own music for using in the Remix Decks. Try taking a track, loading it into a deck, set a loop in the deck, then click and drag on the decks header (where the track title is displayed) and drag the deck down to a remix deck slot. Traktor will take the loop and copy it into the remix deck slot. Once the sample has played 3 times in the remix deck, that loop will be saved to your all samples folder and you can use it at any time.
You are an amazing teacher!! And I rewarded myself getting F1 after putting in enough hours practice. For anyone considering this is SO worth the investment, changes everything ;-)
Very Nice Tutorial and i admire all of you people that can understand all this technical stuff...i'm old school and have a hard time with computers etc... so i will stick with my CDJ 1000 MK3's and my Mighty Hand Made E&S DJR 400 Analog Rotary Mixer !! Cheers
Yes, you can switch between controlling the remix decks by holding Shift and turning the browse knob. This will switch between controlling decks C & D (for example). You can use one controller for all 4 remix decks.
Yes you can use Traktor 2.5 with the S2. Not only is it compatible, but the S2 has a knob in the center for the Remix Decks (or whatever you have playing through decks C&D) so you can use the F1 as an add on to the S2.
If sync is on in the Remix deck it will sync to whatever is the master tempo (whether it be a track deck in auto mode, or the master clock if master clock is the master, or whatever deck is selected as the master clock in manual mode). The way to get it to sync perfectly is by making sure the beatgrids are correct for the track your sampling before sampling it. You can slow down the deck by either slowing down the master clock (deck or clock) or by turning sync off and moving the tempo fader
Hello! I need help!! I spend 2 hours making a remix set yesterday into the f1 then I saved it. Today I go into traktor and the remix is there but when I try load into the remix deck it says that the samples are not supported!!! So it can't open them! I checked into the original folder and all the files are there and are wave files. Help please! :(
the reason is because when you press shift play on the F1 its only stopping THAT CLIP in the remix decks. It doesn't stop the DECK itself. To stop the DECK you would want to push play / pause on whatever controller your using to control that deck, OR just click it with a mouse in the program.
Hi! I have a problem or I missed something. When I play samples in remix deck, in the loop mode, they are not syncronized. The sync and quant bottons are on. They are not sync even with the track decks. I dont get it. I use Traktor pro 3. Please help
Very nice! The only thing i didnt find or couldnt see was a demonstration of a timecode vinyl in combination with the remix deck. Also, a question: I only have two channels on my interface and mixer. Lets say deck B was being used for the current music, and deck A is now changed from a scratch deck into a remix deck, and later its changed back...will the loaded remix set be still available when i change to it later again?
To add to this, you also have a knob on the S2 that controls the volume of the remix decks (Decks C & D) on top of the other two channels (Deck A & B).
You can turn key lock on by hovering your mouse over the three yellow lines above the waveform. The Music Note icon is Key Lock. Also you can turn on Key Lock on the F1 hardware by holding Shift and turning on the pads in the Keylock column
Being a geek doesn't make you a good DJ. What makes you a good DJ is being able to play good tunes, tell a good story, educate your audience, rock a party and do it skillfully and with class. All this controllerism, Remix Decks and crazy stuff you can do on top of just mixing is icing on the cake.
I made those samples myself by making a loop in a deck with a track, then clicking and dragging the deck header into a remix deck cell and playing it 3 times. Once you play the loop 3 times in the remix deck cell it will save automatically to your all samples folder. This folder can be accessed by double clicking on the track collection.
Yeah you can map the F1 knobs and buttons to control anything in Traktor in User Mode (including effects). Also you can send out color coded LED feedback for the pads!!
Hi Endo, Great Tutorial!! I now understand what is possible with the F1. Do I need to download a TSi somewhere to have the F1 work? (I have TP2.5 installed) Or will it be plug and play? Thanks, James
Will this work with any mixing deck? Or do I have the have the separate Traktor decks. From my understanding this just Plugs into the PC USB and I can have like a Pioneer mixing deck?
Yes you can sync Ableton to Traktor. Just check out my other video on how to sync ableton and Traktor watch?v=4xzldehIsCE or you can map your APC / MPD as a MIDI controller to control Traktor as well.
The way I did my custom F1 mapping is I colored all of the LED's in the controller editor application (applications / native instruments / controller editor). In this app you can choose what color each pad is in the off state and on state by double clicking the pad, choosing the "assign" tab, choose LED on "For Midi In", and choose Mode "Gate", Type "Note" and then select Color Mode "Dual" and set the Color On and Color off to whatever color you would like. Then in Traktor you would map LED out
Yes absolutely. This will give you FULL control over the remix decks and every single feature in the Remix Decks. The S4 / S2 are limited as to how much control you have over the Remix Decks. The F1 would make a good add on to your S2/S4 setup.
You should check out the upgrade paths available with Traktor Scratch Pro 2. They discontinued duo and I believe Scratch is included with the new versions of Traktor. If you got the F1 box, you might also have been given a serial for the full version of Traktor as well. Check the box.
Yes you can use the Kontrol F1 as an add on to the Behringer CMD Studio 4a or any other all in one DJ controller like the Traktor Kontrol S4 or anything else of that nature. Its good to think of the F1 as an ADD ON to your DJ setup.
Go into settings and "Layout Manager" and the view that is shown is "browse", there is also a drop down menu on the top right of traktor that lets you select different views. They can be customised by double clickin the dex etc. Just play about with it. Also space bar is usually the "HOt Key", for quickly jumpin between browse mode and the mixing mode
Great video but need to ask you one question: once I've setup all the samples, can I forget looking at Traktor and be fully focussed on the F1 and S4? And how many pre-programmed voices, samples, sounds and so on can I add on the F1? And can I create my own samples/pre-programmed voices/sounds and so on...from parts of a song, let's say just the vocals or a chorus or an instrument? I wish to add pre-programmed voices, samples, sounds and so on... to recall live while mixing on traktor kontrol.... Thank you!!!
Hi Endo, I just have a quick question. Which one is the modifier in Traktor 2 Pro for the Remix Decks "Start Point" I took a look on all Control Manager/Add In ... possibilities and I couldnt find the Edit / Start Point option for mapping my S4. May I ask you which one is the command into the Remix Decks for the Start Point? You can do this using the mouse, but not with the Kontrol S4 or even better with the Kontrol F1. I will appreciate your help on this one. Thnx a bunch. Cheers!
Been using it past couple weeks. Solid innovation by NI. I just wanna know if I can use 1 Kontrol X1 to control decks A+B and 1 Kontrol F1 for a TRACK DECK C and REMIX DECK D. Let me know
You will need to upgrade to the latest version of Traktor (currently 2.6) and to see all 4 rows of sample slots, just double click on the top of the deck and it will unfold the deck. For more info on configuring your screen layouts check out my other video Traktor Pro Video Preferences Guide Pt 3/4: How To Customize Screen Layouts
Thanks Endo, You did an awesome job. Quick question - I noticed at the end you show saving the deck by holding shift and pushing on the encoder. What happens when you dont hold shift, but hit the encoder? Also what happens to the sample deck buttons for deck C & D on the S4?
OMG DJ Endo u don't stop giving well done that man, yuou must know you keeping giving and it comes back to you, great video just got my two and got a bit stuck this video helps. My Podcast is of the chain now, I will email you links via Facebook this weekend once I have done my 1st F1 Mix!! Will check back in 24hrs...
What are you using to elevate your Traktor F1? I'm trying to find something that lifts my X1 & F1 to the same level as my S4 when my mixer is not in a flight case.
Does the remix decks and 2.5 allow for bouncing a mix/remix into a DAW for further editing? I would like to record each track separately into a DAW. I am not sure if this is even possible, if it is can you please explain?
how did you make that layout? My screen is completely obsctructed with the controls and faders, i can barely see the browser. You have all the same faders and knobs showing but they only take up half the screen. If anyone could help that would be great.
I'm finding it hard to cue up my samples as well as changing from loop to one shot etc. If I (headphone) cue a loop, I have to try and stop the loop right when it's about to restart. This causes the loop to be out of time with my track because I've already started it but want to retrigger. Any help? Kontrol s4. No F1
Yes it can but you would need to either find a good mapping to control the remix decks with Maschine or map it yourself which can be very difficult. I personally recommend just getting an F1 since it was made specifically to control the remix decks, and any Traktor updates will come with the updates for the default F1 mapping.
Very well put together tutorial, Ive been looking at one of these tonight to go with my Denon MC3000 but wasnt sure how to use one, It looks a great tool and thanks to your tutorial im confident in using the F1 and will be purchasing it very soon, Can you tell me tho, It comes with the Traktor pro software "i think" would this be then compatable and ok to use together with the Denon MC3000 and F1 as an upgrade from Traktor LE ?
You can use timecode to control the remix decks if you have Traktor SCRATCH Pro. You will need a Traktor Scratch Certified soundcard such as the Traktor Audio 10/ Traktor Audio 6 / Pioneer DJM 900 or any other Traktor Scratch Certified Mixer listed on the Native Instruments website.
Awesome! i'm going to try that tonight, thanks for the reply - when you say add quantize into that macro mapping, you mean you can set up a different quantize for when these "scenes" are launched than what you have set in your remix deck?
Heya Mike. I wasn't sure which one to get next to my Hercules DJ Console 4-MX mixer. I was in doubt between the X1 and the F1. Now I know which one it'll be. The F1 :D (somewhere in August or so). Thanks for the kick ass tutorial !
Why is there no programm to cut loops out of a track?? There is just a section to choose 4,8,16,32 from the beginning of a track. Very annoying. Any tipps?
There's so many different options you can do as far as setup goes depending on if your using an external mixer or Traktors internal mixer. I would personally suggest getting an audio 6 or 10 and also getting the X1 (for DJing) and F1 for using with the Remix Decks. Or you can get the S2 or S4 as your mixer / soundcard and F1 for controlling the Remix Decks.
Endo does this Traktor Kontrol f1 come with the serato scratch live midi map? I know the Kontrol x1 came with the serato scratch live maps. Thanks for the info
Yeah 2020 and I’ve finally got one and this is by far the best video to help with the hardware.
me too
I bought this back in 2013. Nice hardware. I was wondering if I can just play around using the f1 only solo without the controller
Same, just grabbed the s4 mk3 also 👊
Thank you! 🙏
im finding the pads so resistant like tough to push down compared to say the Korg nanocontrol etc. is this normal?? i got 2 on ebay want to resell them
This video is the best and clear one i have seen of Kontrol F1. You should make the official video tutorials for NI.
Thank you Endo, I appreciate the feedback and keep the videos coming!
Glad you like, and thanks for watching!
Glad you like the video. More coming soon!
You the man, Endo. Thanks for all your comprehensive walk-throughs.
the best tutorial i saw. Everybody just show their own remix sounds... and what we want to know is how to control F1! Thanks a lot!
Thank you, and I'm glad you liked the video!
We are working on getting F1's for all of the stations at Dubspot and will be incorporating it into our class as soon as we get them!
Yes you can combine all of your gear. The setup and configuration will be different depending on what soundcard / mixer you use but you can control decks a + b with the midi controller, deck C can be maschine and Deck D can be the F1. The best video on this device by far, many thanks.
12 Years later - literally nothing has changed with the Remix Decks, and this video is still relevant. You're welcome! Haha! I just wish I got more in depth on how to capture samples. It's the only thing I didn't cover. :)
Hey @deejayendo could you explain - respectively does someone know how to „simple“ (not via keyboard) delete just a single sample?
Are you in internal mixing mode or external? Make sure the sample isn't muted and the filters are in the middle. You won't be able to monitor individual samples in external mixing mode
Professional DJ, Producer, reviewer, teacher and a nice man! Very nice review!

The first video I've found which actually shows you what to do. ty DJ Endo..

Astonished Mike!
You show the real F1 & Remix Decks potential, great job.
superb tutorial on my way to pick my s4 and f1 up now !! im sure im going to be checking out more of your videos, thanks again

Dubspot will be adding the Kontrol F1 to our in class curriculum soon!
You are an amazing teacher!! And I rewarded myself getting F1 after putting in enough hours practice. For anyone considering this is SO worth the investment, changes everything ;-)

Hey man thanks for the tutorial 👌 you and Dubspot do a terrific job!

Hi! I have a problem or I missed something. When I play samples in remix deck, in the loop mode, they are not syncronized. The sync and quant bottons are on. They are not sync even with the track decks. I dont get it. I use Traktor pro 3. Please help
can you tell us what's the sample from 11:24 with the dark voice
Thank's for this demo dude !
Thanks for tuning in!
Great tutorial Endo!
When can we expect tutorials on the Track Overlay functions? No one seems to have any videos out there yet or talk about it.
Very nice! The only thing i didnt find or couldnt see was a demonstration of a timecode vinyl in combination with the remix deck. Also, a question: I only have two channels on my interface and mixer. Thanks, I learned a few things I didn't see anywhere yet!!!
For your first DJ Device I would suggest getting the Traktor Kontrol S4.
Yes if you follow this video you should be able to pick it up quickly. It makes a nice add on to the DDJ Ergo and will work just fine with it.
Would you reccomend this for beginners? Or should i get something else?
I made those samples myself by making a loop in a deck with a track, then clicking and dragging the deck header into a remix deck cell and playing it 3 times. Once you play the loop 3 times in the remix deck cell it will save automatically to your all samples folder. This folder can be accessed by double clicking on the track collection.
You can sync Logic to Traktor and use your logic VST's with Traktor if you really want to. You can use any sound that you'd like in the remix deck.
Does the F1 come with loops along with it or do you have to buy loops on your own ?
Yeah you can map the F1 knobs and buttons to control anything in Traktor in User Mode (including effects). Also you can send out color coded LED feedback for the pads!!
I wish there was video this detailed for the X1 mk2.
Hi Endo,
Great Tutorial!! I now understand what is possible with the F1.
Do I need to download a TSi somewhere to have the F1 work? (I have TP2.5 installed) Or will it be plug and play?
Thanks,
James
Will this work with any mixing deck? Or do I have the have the separate Traktor decks. From my understanding this just
Plugs into the PC USB and I can have like a Pioneer mixing deck?
just got my F1 in the mail. cant wait to plug her in tonight
Yes you can sync Ableton to Traktor. Just check out my other video on how to sync ableton and Traktor watch?v=4xzldehIsCE or you can map your APC / MPD as a MIDI controller to control Traktor as well.
Can I ask if you can add effects on top of remix decks?? For e.g. beatmash a loop coming from the remix deck???
Why would you want to go to another DJ school? Dubspot is the best in the world! :-)
Spectacular review...was thinking about buying this and this video convinced me
The way I did my custom F1 mapping is I colored all of the LED's in the controller editor application (applications / native instruments / controller editor). Then in Traktor you would map LED out
I use the Traktor F1 cases to elevate my F1's. They work like a charm.
Yes absolutely. This will give you FULL control over the remix decks and every single feature in the Remix Decks. The S4 / S2 are limited as to how much control you have over the Remix Decks. The F1 would make a good add on to your S2/S4 setup.

Endo was a bit tired, love these tutorials, i think you to be a geek these days to be a good DJ/Controllerist
hi, is the NI Kontrol F1 intended for Remix Deck?
Great video but need to ask you one question: once I've setup all the samples, can I forget looking at Traktor and be fully focussed on the F1 and S4? And how many pre-programmed voices, samples, sounds and so on can I add on the F1? Hi Endo,
I just have a quick question.
Which one is the modifier in Traktor 2 Pro for the Remix Decks "Start Point"
I took a look on all Control Manager/Add In ... possibilities and I couldnt find the Edit / Start Point option for mapping my S4.
May I ask you which one is the command into the Remix Decks for the Start Point?
You can do this using the mouse, but not with the Kontrol S4 or even better with the Kontrol F1.
I will appreciate your help on this one.
Thnx a bunch.
Cheers!
+Combo Jerman Same issue
Been using it past couple weeks. Solid innovation by NI. I just wanna know if I can use 1 Kontrol X1 to control decks A+B and 1 Kontrol F1 for a TRACK DECK C and REMIX DECK D. Let me know
Nice tips! Do you think i can have all same advantages with the MidiFighter 3D as well? or i'll miss something?
You will need to upgrade to the latest version of Traktor (currently 2.6) and to see all 4 rows of sample slots, just double click on the top of the deck and it will unfold the deck. For more info on configuring your screen layouts check out my other video Traktor Pro Video Preferences Guide Pt 3/4: How To Customize Screen Layouts

Excellent tutorial...'bout to add this F1 to my set while it's on sale. And Keep it Creative!!
Does the remix decks and 2.5 allow for bouncing a mix/remix into a DAW for further editing? I would like to record each track separately into a DAW. I am not sure if this is even possible, if it is can you please explain?
Sorry - also, what vid capture tool do you guys at DS use for your tutorials?
You have to have a scratch version of Traktor. To show the timecode scopes go to preferences - decks layout - platter / scope
Hey Dubspot, great vid. where can I get some of those remix sets and samples that you have?
how did you make that layout? My screen is completely obsctructed with the controls and faders, i can barely see the browser. You have all the same faders and knobs showing but they only take up half the screen. If anyone could help that would be great.
Traktor is a beast. It really boils down to the level of skill the user has
great video. You really made it easy. Made so much more sense after watching this 20 min video! Great job and thank you!
I'm finding it hard to cue up my samples as well as changing from loop to one shot etc. If I (headphone) cue a loop, I have to try and stop the loop right when it's about to restart. This causes the loop to be out of time with my track because I've already started it but want to retrigger. Any help? Kontrol s4. No F1
I just bought both over the summer, Midi fighter first, then the F1 a month ago. I would suggest getting the F1 first!
Yes it can but you would need to either find a good mapping to control the remix decks with Maschine or map it yourself which can be very difficult. I personally recommend just getting an F1 since it was made specifically to control the remix decks, and any Traktor updates will come with the updates for the default F1 mapping.

Correct. You can play only one loop or sample per column (similar to ableton live)
Totally subscribed now....I think that it is a MUST for every DJ...D.J Endo should be working on Apple's tutorials !!
Hey James, the F1 is plug and play once you update to the latest version of Traktor. Enjoy!
Or you can get the S2 or S4 as your mixer / soundcard and F1 for controlling the Remix Decks.
just got one.Looks really adaptable. Thanks for the vid.
Hey Endo - great tutorial man! I will be using my own set of samples however do you have a source for the Traktor sample libraries you mentioned?
Endo does this Traktor Kontrol f1 come with the serato scratch live midi map? I know the Kontrol x1 came with the serato scratch live maps. Thanks for the info
