22:12 btw just did this on a rhd S14 silvia rack and it did not have that shim, my rack was rebuilt before so I checked the OEM parts diagram and it doesn’t look like it’s on there for S14s, the bearing seems a tad thicker not sure though

Hey man, at 29:13 there's an orifice on the rack on the left side (the small little hole). Do you know what that is? I refreshed mine and I have fluid coming out of that hole it seems and it's collecting in my boot. That's how it's getting through
@@MisterLiBRiUMz Good question. The small little hole is the cut out from removing the punch mark in order to take out the end screw safely 4:33. It seems to me that the last seal is either ruptured or incorrectly installed, as it’s supposed to prevent fluid from exiting the rack. See 16:50 timeline on the video. If possible, I recommend taking out the seal and inspect it to determine its condition. I hope this helped.
I have to confess I kinda laughed when you shot the ATF across the room... Question for you... how'd you manage to torque the end cap to 50 ft/lbs? Did you end up throwing it in a vice or something? I'm trying to figure out how to manage it on the bench, but I'm not sure how to get the leverage I need without screwing up a machined surface or bending something.
@@Papajin68 I’m glad that this video made you laugh. Sorry I lost some footage when I made this video. But to your question. I didn’t have a bench vise at the time, so I improvised by sandwiching the steering rack between two 2x4 pieces of wood, making sure they were flush on each side. I then secured everything with four clamps, evenly distributed for stability. I placed the setup on a small bench, and for additional leverage, I sat on it while applying torque. It may sound unconventional, but I had to make do with the limited tools I had available at the time. I hope that helped.
@@masterofnone1740 Don't feel bad, I ended up wrapping a strap wrench around one of the "lobes" used for mounting it to the cross-member, and then put my foot on the other side and applied some weight (I did all this on top of a rubber mat covering my workout area which protected the already painted tube and helped keep it from slipping as I tried to torque the cap), and that got me just enough leverage/stability to get it torqued properly. Anyway, thanks for making the video, it was helpful.
Hi Mason. After installing the gear housing, and measure “rack stroke” on both sides of the shaft to be even. Both sides should measure 68.5mm - measuring from the end of the rack to the end of the part where the tie rod end connect.
No, I utilized a homemade L-shaped puller. Once I removed the inner seal with the puller, the washer (center bushing) easily slides out due to gravity. Ensure not to scratch the inner surface of the rack when extracting the seal.
Thank you for this video.
That was a very well done video, thank you!
That was really helpful thanks heaps!!! Also quite funny near the start reminded me of myself in the garage.
Thanks Taylor! I’m glad this video helped.
I needed this in my life! Thank you sir!
You’re very welcome Brotha Herson! More S13 rebuild videos are coming soon. Enjoy!

Nice job!
Thank you, J DUB! I’ll be publishing more S13 part rebuilds. Hopefully, these videos help out the S Chassis community.

Great video what are the Metal rings used for that come in the kit?
Thanks, Nolz10. The metal rings are the clamps for the steering rack boots.
Thank you! What is the neutral gear in step 1?

Did you just hammer out the inner washer that contacts the the inner seal?
