I used to agree with that statement until I realized just how much we rely on other nations to be so powerful... We still need allies for military defense and trade. If the USA fought against every other country in the world or at the very least, on multiple fronts at the same time without ANY foreign aid or access to foreign military bases, it would still loose, the fact that we lost in Vietnam, korea, and Afghanistan proves that with enough determination and support/ willingness, ANYONE can defeat the USA. If everyone decides to stop trading with the USA and put sanctions like Russia, their economy would still collapse just like anyone else's... America can't do it alone they still require foreign allies. But I'll admit that in order to be defeated, it would take a major coalition or the entire world as a whole to oppose them. As modern day shows, it's very easy to cause another us civil war to start and cause the country to split up because nobody agrees with each other and the central federal government is oppressive against states rights which can easily cause problems in the USA.
I think this is not a GDP list, but also combine that with military forces too. Japan under the peaceful constitution edition after WW2 was limited to develop advanced weapon like aircraft carrier and mid and long range missals.

I don’t agree with India being placed above Russia. The reasons are: 1. Majority of our weapons that we have procured in last few decades are Russian made with minor changes. This means that a bulk of our arsenal is essentially similar to that of Russia, which makes them outdated. 2. We are essentially dependent on imports when it comes to defence sector. We don’t have an engine for our own flagship jet yet and we depend on decades old engines from western world to power our machinery. With this lack of self sufficiency, I don’t think we should be ranking that high on the list. 3. There is massive corruption in our politics which often interferes with best procurements for our armed forces. Our DRDO and OFB are no where near ISRO when it comes to innovation and engineering. I don’t know which report you are using to prepare this list, but there is certainly something wrong with it.

while thats true, the only nation to successfully make, test and launch a weapon has been the USA. no other nation has been able to proof their nuclear arsenals destructive powers. Furthermore, the US nuclear arsenal constantly goes through updates and modernization every decade, whereas many other nation are barely able to make new ones , let alone update their internal components. Plus the US would only need to strike the oil fields and shipping lanes to essentially cripple every other nation on the earth, as they are so heavily reliant on both of those areas, whereas here in the US we have the abilities and resources to be self sufficient. And our geographical area makes it almost impossible for a successful land invasion as no other nation has an active blue water nvy.
