In der Wareneingangskontrolle hab ich die Maße der Okularlinsen stichprobenweise mit dem Meßschieber auf Maßhaltigkeit überprüft. Später hatte ich dann eine MTL 5B, gekauft vom Jugendweihegeld für irgendwas um 850 Mark. Damit hab ich bis 2002 fotografiert und sie funktioniert heute noch. Auch wenn die Belederung auf der Rückseite mittlerweile fehlt.
I use Prakticas a lot - LTL's MTL,s - and I find them very, very quality built. I have collection of these cameras - almost twenty of them. All built in metal and glass, no shitty plastic, that feeling of using something solid, something that is not another commercial bubble is incomparable. It is sad that Pentacon was another company destroyed by globalization.

$700? You're joking, show me one then if you can, they were so much plastic junk so much so you can't even find spares for them and no dealer worthy of the name would take one in part exchange, they'd just laugh at you🤣
The first 35mm camera I used was a Praktica. It belonged to my grandpa, and my brother has it now. I just bought a similar and slightly older one, a Praktica V, at eBay.

I have several Praktica B-cameras and Minoltas, you really have to buy the Minolta Dynax-9, Minolta's top SLR that came out in 1997 and cost $1500, to have a Minolta that feels more solid and better built than the Praktica BX20. And the Praktica BX20 still has a larger and brighter viewfinder.

Ich denke wesentlich verkleinert und auf hohem Niveau würde die Firma heute noch existieren und Marktführer sein in dem Segment. Aber damals war es halt tatsächlich nicht rentabel mehr. Es ist leider auch mit anderen Betrieben so gelaufen. Realistisch betrachtet war es dann wohl eine vernünftige Entscheidung. Und das sage ich als Ostdeutschen und Pentaconsammler.
How sad... The end with the lady carefully placing the camera's and lenses on that scrapheap, like a last salute to her dedication and life... But Praktica lost the game around 1985. The BC1 was introduced when Minolta (also gone) showed the first AF-motored body (7000) and the wide range of excellent AF lenses. The BC1 was 'just' a B200 with small improvements. There just was no money left to invest, with the GDR being bankrupt. And Treuhand can be considered a bunch of crimininals these days, but closing a factory making a loss of 500,000 DM a day is, after all, a understandable decision. I'm happy to own a few 1980's B's and I am glad that they survive and help me shoot lovely pics. Even today.
Ja ,ja die Kamaras aus der DDR waren ja von so schlechter Qualität , das nicht nur die Japaner sie kopiert haben , auch bei uns im Westen ( Lübeck) wurden sie unter den Namen z.b. Revue oder Porst verkauft. Wer jetzt böses denkt. Ach ja , ich selber habe 23 Kamaras Made in Dresden.

You are talking absolutely nonsense the East Germans were miles behind the Japanese Camera Industry, why do think the whole Praktica thing collapsed like a pack of cards in 1990? Because their cameras were so much rubbish in the market and just couldn't compete with superior Japanese Cameras even if the CZ Jena were first class, the cameras themselves weren't very good in construction and that's the reason you can't get one repaired now for love or money and no dealer worthy of the name will take any Praktica in part exchange, they just laugh at you!!🤣

Traurig, daß so eine gute und traditionsreiche Kamerafirma so mies abgewickelt wurde. Was ich aber gar nicht verstehe ist, daß da auch Objektive,Prismen etc, weggeworfen wurden...so was hätte doch über Fotomagazine/-börsen o.ä. zu hohen Liebhaberpreisen verkauft oder versteigert werden können?!?!
It is so sad when watch this movie. I have a oraktica Mtl5B but Shutter was jam and dissambly it anf can't re assambly .it is sad lack of repair manauls in internet. In othe hand ,90's is a AF SLR era.Praktica lack of these products Nowdays PrakticaDc is OEM in CHINA ,
This is a sad tale. In my opinion, there should have been an attempt to make Pentacon more efficient to compete in a market economy, instead of just gutting the entire company.
@jakadatuwo also one must remember that most socialist industries had a lot of government support. which meant that they were never as efficient as western factories. although pentacon was the best camera maker amongst all the communist countries. after the end of communism some of these companies had no clue as to how to make a profit and suffered as a result. LOMO in st petersburg is another example.
it is sad to see this Pentacon story !!! i was in that factory last year !!! it was realy shock for me to see that factory as museum !!! stupid west german goverment !!!! very very stupid !! because they closed this factory and they sold to sourth korean'S !!! nobody can develop same quality optic'S in the world !!! not anymore ! like pentacon and zeiss jena !!!
Praktika wurde nicht nur im Kombinat hergestellt. Es wurde auch von Häftlinge produziert. Ich kaufte ein Praktika 1966 aber es funktionierte nur ein Jahr. Erst mit Nikon funktionierte Kameras(´fast) ohne Probleme,

Found my Practica Nova 1b this week, testing it and still works fine :)

Zum Glück hab ich noch einige Objektive und ne Praktica FX2, mit dem Carl Zeiss 50/2.8

I think I would have found a way to take those cameras/lenses home instead of putting them in the scrap heap... How sad.

Za komuny marzyłem o aparacie PRAKTICA. Był dla mnie zbyt drogi . Kupiłem więc ZENITH.
