Love your videos, I think the narrating is what really makes your videos stand out from the other modelling channels, and is definitely the reason your channel is my favourite modelling channel
G'day Model Guy, That's a good looking build. The P-47 is one of my favourite WW2 aircraft; that being my general speciality, the WW2 and Korean periods. I work with other modellers and we've amassed a huge archive of period photographs, nearly all taken in the UK in and around wartime airfields, 8th Air Force and RAF. Every picture we have of 'Invasion Stripes' being painted is done by general ground staff using 6" or 8" brushes and big tins of black and white paint. They were not to fussy about straight lines either, in fact none of these jobs are masked up in any way. The Surface Finishers (painters) hardly ever bothered with the Stripes; they're first priority job was re-spraying insignia, roundels and any markings to do with aircraft ID. Much more important to have every aircraft properly identified. The Stripes did that job too but they were generally painted at short notice and Paint Shops couldn't apply the Stripes to whole squadrons or wings in such a short space of time so, out came the big brushes. Just a tiny point to keep in mind when doing 'Invasion Stripes', no need to mask them up; do them freehand, as 99% of them were done in reality. Cheers and all the best, love your Thunderbird! BH
@@TheModelGuy Seen that one too! I think I've watched every Jug build on RUclips! I'm a couple of weeks into the Tamiya bubble-top. Nice kit (and a great palate cleanser after the AMK F-14).
Really like this one. By the by, check out some F-14 histories. The same thing would work for these kinds of birds. F-14s, as they were maintenance heavy, would leave for a tour/cruise unified in color. However as they were worked on and the paint wore the maintenance crews would just rattlecan some grey paint on them. This meant that the cats were blotchy with tens of different tones of grey when the carrier returned to port.
That was a excellent build, so congratulations on the P-47, I did see one many years ago and it was a big Bird, keep safe and well in these crazy times.
Great! Ive ordered the same kit yesterday, hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow. Never built a Jug before so I'm really excited. These Tamiya kits are really awesome. Yours look stunning just screams for a small diorama!
Remind me to put you on my hate list ! 😁 Just kidding, amazing build. Love the scratchbuilt detail in the cockpit. Hope you are well, until the next one, take care, Tony
I liked it before watching it. Its better then llke after seeing it. Great communication about the model build. Thanks for the impersonation. Question have ever done a ship or war.
What you have to remember, invasion stripes were not factory applied, there are actual photos of invasion stripes being applied with brooms(yard brushes) and with rags.so even over spray on the stripes is correct.
Do you think you'll be building the Tamiya 1/48 F4 Phantom coming out this year in June? I'm super ecstatic for it as F4's are my favorite aircraft, and tamiya are my fave manufacturer!
Outstanding sir.👏 I did a similar paint scheme on 1/72 Academy kit. Love the invasion stripes on the P-47. How wide were they for the 1/48 kit? I have the same kit in my stash. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
I measured the decals from the bubbletop kit. The wing stripes were a bit wider on some Jugs due to the nature of their work and the risk of friendly ground fire. Fuselage was 9.5mm per stripe. Wings were 10.5mm
If you look closely at invasion stripes,or even research how they were applied, you'll see the stripes were not perfectly straight, seeing as they were painted on the brooms brushes and anything else they could lay their hands on.
That’s not entirely true. There are several pictures of aircraft with them done very neatly. This was a commissioned project so I didn’t want to play the other end of the card where people comment how bad they look :)
@@TheModelGuy if you look at the scene in Band of Brothers when they board the Dakotas, you'll see how rough the stripes were, also my grandpa was a despatcher on first Whitleys then dakotas in WWII,even he said he had to paint the invasion stripes onto his aircraft when they were told the invasion was happening,A lot of pre invasion aircraft were only painted a day of 2 before the drop.2nd and 3rd of June.

I haven't heard the term 'pounce wheel' in over 40 years, Wow, that takes me back. For the neophytes its commonly known as a 'pattern makers' wheel. In the model world it is a 'riveting tool'. Beware of the scale!!

Agreed, plus that there is no Music in the background, that is so annoying on some other channels.
The narration is so much better than music....it personalizes the project. Thank you

great job on weathering the invasion stripes
Hello. Just got the notifaction. This is gonna be good.
notifaction 😄

Smashing job Robbie! The invasion stripes look great.
Thank you :)
One of your best builds. And all your builds slam.
Thanks bud! I have plans to revisit this but the miniart -47 bumped it down the list a bit.

I have always loved the look of the razor razorback over the bubble top
I'm the opposite but the razor back is such an intimidating aircraft.
Excellent weathering!
Dang, hella nice🔥 Actually just finished my own one😂
Another fabulous build. I like the reverse chipping; came out very nice.
Really nice Razorback.
Beautiful build, as always. Very well done. I love your finish. Thanks.
Very COOL!!

Wow, that technique for the invasion stripes works really Good, thanks a lot for sharing!
Solid P-47 great job!!! Very nice approach with the reverse chipping!!!
Thank you now i can start mine also helping me with your other video from this plane.
It looks awesome

Glad you enjoy it Tony. I'm on a few hate lists anyways :)
Great looking invasionstripes om a great plane😀 Good work👍
I enjoy the videos of aircraft
I made this kit about 2 years ago. I prefer the chipping fluid because it makes sense & is more realistic than than the sponge technique.
Best weathered invasion stripes ever....
très belle réalisation ...Super beau ...
*Very simple technics for an amazing result!*
Another great build. The interior green does the jug justice. Similar to the interior color of the P39 and A20.
Real nice you have given me so much inspiration to do my one
It's a really nice kit. Lots of liveries out there to do and a great mojo booster
コクピットの丁寧な製作、塗装は大変参考になります。
I’ve been waiting for this
Sponge chipping. I went back to it with my Tamiya Corsair, it went much better than expected. I tried doing it differently from what I did years ago
Damn nice build.
I enjoyed this video of this fighter plane

I've not done a ship. Maybe one day
Awesome! 🤩
New clears coming you say?? That's always exciting. I have settled for Mission Models clears right now.
Very nice model aircraft I have the die cast model
Good model
I would love to see you build the revell 1/32 fw190 I am currently building it and want to see mine vs yours. Love your video

There were also a lot of aircraft that the crews neatly taped off and painted the stripes.
@@TheModelGuy they were people with TOO much time on their hands 🤣🤣🤣
So happy I got to see this unfold on Instagram. You've produced another beautiful model.
Hows the KV doing?
KV is in a hold while another Soviet project tears in. Should be back on the bench in two weeks.
