Great supercut, really puts a fantastic spotlight on one of the greatest of all time. Mark's ability to dominate for so long is a testament to his talent and love of the sport.
I'm not a Nascar fan by any stretch of imagination. Hell, I'm from Brazil, Nascar isn't even broadcast here, and my deal is all about F1. But I found myself here after the Haas-Rich Energy fiasco, and before I even noticed I had already watched every video from this series twice. Now my sunday just got better with this supercut. If you ever wondered whether you're doing a good job presenting the concept of Nascar and its intricacies on RUclips, you managed to hook up someone who's pretty much completely alien to this world just like that. And if I'm joining this bandwagon, you can bet that many other, American or not, will too. Hell of a job here.
Can confirm. I am American, but I'm an absolute geek. My only exposure to motorsports whatsoever are through my friends, an Alaskan who does happen to be a Nascar guy, and a Brit who follows F1 and FE. The channel got recommended to me a few months back, and I've binged most of his library more times than I care to admit.
Mark's always been my favorite driver.. for 25 years so far. This was one of the best and emotional videos I've watched, S1apsh0es. A lot of heartbreak for one of the best to ever do it. I hope he watches the whole thing.
Still no clue about Nascar for the most part (F1 fan here) but i'm enjoying the heck out of these videos. The long format stuff on this channel is amazing.
I was at the All Star race when Gordon blew up (or ran out of fuel, can't remember the official reason for his slowing) on a first date with a Gordon fan. As a Jarrett fan I of course didn't want to see that Chevy win again so when he slowed I jumped up and celebrated. Apparently my date was less than impressed as shortly after the race I was informed that it wasn't going to work between us since I disliked Gordon as much as I did. Probably one of the best things that ever happened looking back at it now. hahaha
For 2 phenoms to have the best statistical seasons of their careers in a field of 30-40 just shows how much better they were than rest of their competition, it's insane
There will never, ever be a man like Mark Martin again. He wasn't my favorite driver but he was one I always rooted for. It was a great honor to watch him race. Looking at who he lost those championships too, it clear what kind of driver you had to be to beat him. You had to had to be the driver that would one day be considered one of the greatest. For that, Mark Martin IS the greatest.
I live in upstate NY. 20 mins from Watkins Glen. I saw my driver Mark Martin do a 3 peat, Bud at the Glen. Thank you Sir Mark Martin!!!! Great content man 🔥🔥🤘🏼🤘🏼
What a great video and tribute! How ironic for me to learn about Bobby Allison's influence on Roush. I was a Bobby Allison fan. After it became apparent that Allison would never return to NASCAR after the Pocono crash, I had to pick a new driver to pull for. Yup. Mark Martin. Die hard til the end!
One of, if not the best NASCAR history and driver appreciation videos on the web. You have to do another. Doesn't have to be on a driver or even a NASCAR entity. Great Video, John from Woodruff
Glad this was re-uploaded as a full series... just rewatched 5 videos I’ve seen before, and got a different appreciation for the man. Dude’s incredibly underrated, while still being massively respected; hard to do.
I grew up with my Dad being a Mark fanatic so naturally I tagged along early on, what I remember about watching the races on Sunday, we were rooting for a driver who was talented, consistent, and humble, not to mention as clean of a driver as you'd want racing against you, makes total sense why he was respected by essentially every other driver. I'd ask why won't he just bump them out of the corner like anyone else and my dad would say because he's not like everyone else, he doesn't like taking the easy way out...so true...thanks for making the video man and Mark your a true legend 🤙
slap slowly you have made an Australian who watches F1, sprint cars and V8 Supercars. and knows very little of NASCAR, you have made me a NASCAR fan and not only that but a Mark Martin fan. I want to say thank you and I also love the way you format and edit your videos, very different but you and Wirtual have made me into a man that greatly enjoys good video formatting that keeps you engaged.
Gotta say, never was the biggest fan, I was a #3 kid...however always had to watch out for a guy that fast who is also stand up respectable, genuinely a nice guy. Rare in this world
I cannot tell you how much I both identify with every single thing you say, almost every thought. I got goosebumps dozens of times because of the memories and how you exactly recreate what I was feeling. This is outstanding!
What a fantastic documentary/tribute to Mark Martin… the greatest man who ever was, (besides my late Dad). Thank you so very much, Slap! Truly an outstanding video production!
Have always been a peripheral NASCAR fan due to being overseas a lot etc, but my all time favorite has always been Mark Martin. An "older gentleman", always a kind word for his competitors, TONS of respect from those he competed against, loved by the entire racing community. Yeah, nice guy, but put him behind a wheel and look out. One of THE most competitive people I've ever had the pleasure to watch. But never a "cheap shot" or "revenge move", he just flat out wanted to race. Fantastic piece, my friend, thank you. Oh, and BTW... OLD GUYS ROCK!!!
Being from the same home town as Mark of course he's always been my favorite. He's also the reason im trying to get into racing. Him and Jimmy Owens are both from my neck of the woods and you could say they both are the best at what they do.
I’m glad I found this channel. You have some great content here. Mark Martin was my moms favorite driver while I was growing up, so I ended up liking him as well. Now as somebody that understands everything a lot more, I have even more respect for him and love him as a driver
randomly....growing up... my mom worked at Winn-Dixie so she was a fan of Mark (Busch series and stuff)..... my step father was a racing fan and was really into Jeff Gordon since his rookie season. '98 was a house divided. silly rivalries aside... Mark was awesome.... you don't have to be first to be great. Mark never started drama and was always a gentleman... and one hell of a driver and person.
Thank you for depicting my feelings so accurately about Mark. To me his sportsmanship was and is what separated him from the rest of the crowd. He was and always will be the very best there were. Thank you Mark for the memories. You made a part of my life so enjoyable.
I’ve only really followed nascar in the last couple seasons but I can say Mark is my favourite driver I’ve heard about in nascar. The 2009 season in particular is just incredible to me, a man who was ready to retire went toe to toe with the greatest of his era and nearly took the title from him. Epic video.
Well done Sir!! I know at the beginning you said this video was for you, and I get it. This video was for me too. Thank you for all of the effort and more importantly thank you for helping me relive the moments. Mark Martin made me a Nascar fan when I was reluctantly watching with my friends who were Dale Earnhardt and Ricky Rudd fans around 91 (freshman in high school). I miss seeing him race, but I completely understand that he will not do it again. It was a pleasure to sit on the edge of my seat for the 20 plus years I watched or listed to Nascar, sometimes screaming at the television or radio in my car. For me personally, there is no better example of a stand up guy.
mark martin was, is, & will allways be a class act.he is loved & respected for the way he handles himself thru all the ups & downs of his carreer.if you can retire with the utmost respect from millions of competitors & fans.that is worth more than a championship trophy,in my oppinion.
Mark was the driver that many, many, dads guided their sons to admire because he raced clean and wasn't a career whiner, as so many others were (are!).
Ritchie Evans and Mark Martin 2 of the best to ever do it. Two of my childhood hero's. I was never a big road course fan. However when you live 20 miles from the Glen and your favorite cup driver owns that place. You learn to love it. LOL
To me, Mark has always been one of those drivers you immediately fall in love with like Ryan Blaney today. Because of their personality, we see their potential out on the track and RARELY creating drama.
So Ryan is a nice clean driver with good sportsmanship that basically just pushes hard and races and keeps out of drama or bitterness? If so that gives me hope that more are like that in motorsports.
This whole video just speaks to my soul. I was born in 1980 so as i got old enough to actually watch and have a legit favorite Mark Martin took off in his career and he became my favorite driver. His dignity and class and honorable nature made that decision something that i never doubted or or second guessed. This whole video is amazing and is a wonderful tribute to the legend.
Mark should have won a cup championship where he just couldn't quite put everything together to get it done. I'm surprised that we haven't seen him back at the racetrack being part of a TV announcement crew or part of rouse racing.
Mark Martin was my driver since I was a kid and knew what nascar was. He was my dads driver and both my grandpas driver. He was the man and very very underrated. What Mark Martin could of done at a Hendricks or RCR baffles me to this day.
Great video about a great man and driver. I still miss watching him race and still get excited watching clips of his race wins. Thanks for making this 👍
There is no moral point to sports. We overlay our own morality and current social values upon sports. I'm a big fan of Mark Martin, and great sports stories like his. Tarkenton and Vikings, come to mind. Winning the championship is a goal, but it is the journey that is remembered. Martin had a helluva journey.
What a great documentary! I have always admired his tenacity and will to push...even when it appeared it was moot. Mark Martin was stellar, and a great representation of what "never give up" truly encompasses. Two thumbs up......
Mark is my hero, he has inspired me my whole racing life, that’s what it is it’s life! I remember the heartbreak and sadness every time I think back to watching every race that could have been in 98. I would watch every race at the end of the couch closest to the TV with my father every Sunday and would not miss a single lap. To sum up my thoughts mark never Quit he was the most prepared guy mentally and physically every Sunday. He would take care of his equipment because he knew the races were about surviving and having the car in the best shape to win at the end of each race. I swear it was so much fun and frustrating at the same time knowing he was just going to cruise inside the top 20 and then the last 100 or 50 or 25 depending on the track and tire situation here he comes! I won my first big block dirt modified race I ever qualified in at Orange County fair speedway in my rookie season. I will give credit to mark from that win, it was the first 30 lap race for me as in sportsman we only ran 20. Knowing I had an additional 10 laps I took care of my tires and ran second the entire race studying the leader. With two to go I drove right around the leader in three and took it home. As far as the big wins go I fall in the same category as mark and probably why I admire him so much. In 2010 I finished 2nd in the eastern states 200 big block modified race at Orange County. If it were not for a flat left rear and red flag that delayed the race for over a half hour who knows I may have been 10k richer and a nice trophy. 2nd should not be looked at as it is, 2nd keeps you working harder, it keeps you focused to move on and keeps you engaged longer. This is what we saw with mark, he brought so much more to the table a legacy of “he’s not finished”. At a time where NASCAR was truly at its potential with on track demand for finishes he and his competitors put on a show for so many. They are the reason why everyone showed up to the track for support. As for me I haven’t raced since 2017 and just like Mark I took off due to family before that had not raced for two seasons prior. Built a car and ran it twice before the eastern states 200 in ‘17. It ran ok, did some more adjustments and we ended up qualifying 4th out of 60 cars. Finished 10th in the 200 that year after sitting out for 2. I still have the car went through divorce and still not letting go almost 8 years later. I just started to save money after pulling myself out of debt, this video reminds me to never let yourself go. Racing is a part of many peoples lives and if it brings you or others happiness then you have to participate in that. Enjoy and thanks for the memories
As a person who is from what I can tell from the video just a year older than you thank you for this. I was a die hard Mark fan my whole life and this just brought back everything. Loved it Thank You.
Imagine if Mark had won the Most Popular Driver Award? After winning at least once, I'd like to believe he'd probably take his name off the ballots like Bill Elliott (I'm not a huge Bill Elliott fan either, but that's something very commendable to be said of him. Being considerate of his fellow drivers) did to payback to both the drivers and the fans which granted, Mark was always more than likely a consistent podium with the final results in terms of popularity no matter what anyway. Such an awesome guy in about every tangible category possible. Proud to be a fan of Mark's.
Ahh, hearing a Southerner mispronounce "Gustafson" gives me fond memories of my exchange year in the US. Thank you, slap; this series wss great even on a rewatch, and even for a kid who has never once watched a single lap of Nascar.
I was at that Michigan race in 2009. That last lap was so confusing. When my driver JJ ran out of fuel. I was so happy to see Mark win. I remember him saying when JJ and Biffle ran out of fuel, it was going to be close. On the 4th corner, his fuel was gone. He pushed in the clutch and coasted to victory.
Mark is a great soul who embodies the spirit of racing. From Larry Phillips to your last race Mark, you have been the best. The Fairgrounds Speedway is gone , I’m retired myself from running a trucking fleet. You are the greatest driver and the greatest influence on how to work. I am sure you don’t remember me but I remember when we were long haired kids and I hung around the pits there in Springfield, MO when you and Larry Phillips would go at it those years ago.

Have I already seen this series multiple times before? Yes. Am I about to watch it all again? Absolutely.
Edit: Hope you're doing well S1ap 💚
Mark's always been my favorite driver.. for 25 years so far. This was one of the best and emotional videos I've watched, S1apsh0es. A lot of heartbreak for one of the best to ever do it. I hope he watches the whole thing.
Still no clue about Nascar for the most part (F1 fan here) but i'm enjoying the heck out of these videos. The long format stuff on this channel is amazing.
The greatest documentary ever.
with no racing this morning (f1) i’m very happy i got to spend an hour watching this story again. a phenomenal documentary
Mark Martin was my favorite driver his whole career. He deserved that crown more then any driver in history.
Great content man 🔥🔥🤘🏼🤘🏼
Man, that was quite honestly, amazing.
"it's not the trophy that makes the man.. it's the man who makes the trophy" - such great words S1ap!
Great Video,
John from Woodruff
I never got around to watching the mark Martin videos you did so thank you for putting all of them together.
Glad this was re-uploaded as a full series... just rewatched 5 videos I’ve seen before, and got a different appreciation for the man. Dude’s incredibly underrated, while still being massively respected; hard to do.
Great to see a feature length version S1ap, and the passion you have for showing your support for Mark Martin is clearly evident 👍
Thank you!!!! We can now watch this all connected! Slapshoes take your time…. You make great content
I dont care if I've seen this twice already. I'll watch it a third time.
Mark Martin is my all-time favorite driver and sports figure. Absolute legend.
A good thing to have in the background while I work on Martin’s 1/24 ‘97 Talladega winner 🥳🎩😎🏁🙌
Just when I think I'm finally over the emotional turmoil of the original posting of the apologetics videos... here we go again.
It’s like Christmas when slap uploads
True
slap slowly you have made an Australian who watches F1, sprint cars and V8 Supercars. and knows very little of NASCAR, you have made me a NASCAR fan and not only that but a Mark Martin fan.
LMFAO Joey Logano vs everyone.... Gordo was my guy.
This is such a well done video bro.
Epic video.
36:08 man that intro for Sterling was just perfect man
Well done Sir!!
I never knew the Bobby Allison connection. It's cool that he helped Mark out like that.
Blaney is best buds with the most popular driver, he’ll be liked, I think the only real controversy is with his sister and William Byron
It feels so good seeing this comment months after Blaney finally got a championship.
I had a diecast of his late-90's #6 Taurus once. He's basically the first Nascar driver i heard about.
I'm with you 100% I'm a little older than you, but followed Mark his entire Busch, truck, IROC, and cup career. He was the best.
What a great documentary! I have always admired his tenacity and will to push...even when it appeared it was moot. Mark Martin was stellar, and a great representation of what "never give up" truly encompasses. Two thumbs up......
Loved Mark Martin growing up. Nothing but love and absolute appreciation for him. Glad to see him enjoying is well deserved retirement. 💜
He's still the champion of champions let's never forget that.
What a great tribute to a great driver! He was awesome! His Busch series wins were also legendary!
unreal video. I know almost nothing about nascar (dirt fan) but love motorsport documentaries and this was outstanding. thanks for making it
That last year with Rousch was epic.Dont forget he stomped em in Busch and the truck series as well
I wasn't a direct fan but I always had mad respect for him. He never raced dirty and never ran his mouth.
I got teary-eyed a few times remembering watching the clips you showed back then. Thank you. 🙂
@S1apsh0es you are the reason I have fallen in love with NASCAR and gained massive respect for Mark Martin. Courtesy from a dude from South Africa.
Love me some Mark and some S1ap! Glad to see a new upload
The more I hear about nascar the more interested I become in it. I would love to ride in one as it blasts around the track one day.
An hour movie of MARK Martin??
OH YESSSSSSSSSS! MAAAAARK
Amazing piece. I was 11/12 for the '98 season. It was the most incredible season I've yet seen.
As a person who is from what I can tell from the video just a year older than you thank you for this. I was a die hard Mark fan my whole life and this just brought back everything. Loved it Thank You.
Using Destiny's The Traveler theme at the end there was genius. So emotional.
Well done Brother ... story, stats, delivery .... it's why I watch when I do. Keep showing the passion when you can .... Thanks !
Thank you for making this salute to the class act of auto racing. I was/am a Mark Martin fan. Take care.
Ahh, hearing a Southerner mispronounce "Gustafson" gives me fond memories of my exchange year in the US. Thank you, slap; this series wss great even on a rewatch, and even for a kid who has never once watched a single lap of Nascar.
Thank you for making this supercut! I love this series!
One of the best videos ever about Mark. So well done. This deserves an award! Amazing!
