  • I thought I’d post this song again with the intro line played twice, the ending line added, and a nice background video. Here is the opening line from one of my favorite songs of the 2000s, “Fireflies” by Owl City. This is a beautiful song, and I always love listening to it and I really enjoy playing it. This line takes a lot of dexterity on both the keyboard and the guitar, and it is so much fun to play! Fun fact: the 24th fret of this guitar has an owl inlay! 🎵🎶🎸🎹🦉🌃

There’s nothing I love more than when someone plays one of my favorite songs and does it justice. :)

The delay setting & tempo? 😂

On the original recording, Adam used a simple sine wave, which is the purest tone since it doesn't contain harmonics. As a result, I decided to keep this extremely simple. I used the neck pickup on my guitar and went from my audio interface into GarageBand. I didn't use any amp simulators. All I did was add a PlatinumVerb with a reverb time of 3 seconds and a tape delay where the delay was set to a quarter note (based on a song tempo of 178 BPM). Lots of people cover this intro using distortion and things like tapping. I just wanted to do a simple version using a clean tone to capture the atmosphere of the song. Hope this helps!
