The way Liam incorporates phrases his friends say is so endearing and shows his genuine love for everyone ❤
I would have loved a little explanation of the rules or the symbols on the cards - but fun nevertheless.
If you are interested learning more Tolarion Community College as a good introduction on how to play
If you are interested Tamren Cardwell is a great content creator as well!!
As someone who is learning how to play since the 21st… there are videos out there where you can see how it’s played.
There should be some uvs rules rundowns here on RUclips, but I promise they're easy to learn and more approachable than something like MTG
He sure is@@rebilynn
"...taking out the Briarwood's- cause they deserve it." My brother in christ YOU MADE THE BRIARWOODS
And he made them to deserve it.
If he made the Briarwood he should know they deserve it or not.
Liam's Nott Voice is spot on 😂😂
He did create the character after all 😂
This was really fun. Both are trying to win and you can tell it's a thinking ahead type of game 🙂
Hearing Matt’s nott impression for the Inevitable appearence in c3 👀
Timestamp? ::happily met most of these people last fall, complete with Sam signing on a piece of art, "I protect HIM"
lets just say a certain jester comes a long in c3
No, when does Matt do this in the video?
@@JnEricsonx 3:00 lol
Please make the cat prince book guys.
Me and my wife are picking these up tomorrow. Super stoked to play tomorrow night.
Have always loved Everything Is Content. And these are very lovely looking cards!
"big freakin' explosion" is NOT called fluffernutter??
Fluffernutter is a registered trademark of Durkee-Mower, the company that makes Marshmallow Fluff.
@@Angela-hn6mb yeah they have a card call Chronostatis Trigger from another set. I bet they were itching to call it something else ;)
I can only imagine how amazing a CR Magic the Gathering set would be!
If only :(. With CR moving away from D&D and MTG also being owned by WOTC its never gonna happen but man would it be incredible
It would definitely be a "shut up and take my money" situation. But yeah with CR doing their own thing and breaking away from WOTC, it will never happen.
Yeah but Hasbro are making CR move a long so probably not ❤
I had an idea to turn my wife's tiamat deck into a chroma conclave theme deck.
@sirKonradical oooooh that would be sick!
These are 2 of the many that give me the escape I need In life. They are my friends.
This is so soothing
I am so overjoyed to see the final emergence of Critical Role's rebuttal to the neverending, monotonous stricture of table top gaming. It gives me hope!!!
I’m very intrigued, also confused, but still very intrigued
If you want to know more there are a few how to play videos our there on RUclips. The game is actually ~17 years old but the current format just started in 2021 so lots of the info will be very current. Tameran Cardwell and Tolarion Community College have good videos on learning the game.
@@zephy64Thanks for the recommendations. The mechanics seems to be a bit to get used to, but I'm excited to start playing
@@geekdaddiy Well I just found a new channel to subscribe to :) you have a cool channel
@@zephy64Thanks!
I just got my hands on a vex and vax set today and the cards are absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to get the next box and figure out how to play hehe
Holy cow! UFS got a rebranding?! Awesome! I'm glad it caught the eye of CR!
Rebranded and more money pumped into different IP's. Godzilla, Attack on Titan, Tekken 8, and Star Trek are in the works!
@@murdercleese2146 That's fantastic! I love to see the game still here and stronger than ever. I was part of a small group that was trying to foster the game in Northern NJ. Sadly other games had too much of a grip at our then LGS. We moved on shortly after the release of the Megaman/Darkstalker tins. Not because the game was bad mind you, this was around the time that the release schedule suffered setbacks and we had no way to keep the game relevant in the store.
Hearing the old terminology after so long warms my heart. I'll look into buying some of this new challenger product. Looks fun and mostly the same as when I played way back in the day.
Glad to hear you are finding the game again@@PhoenixGuard ! I was brought back in when my friend lent me a deck to play in a local tournament its still just as much fun as it used to be.
It gets better.... technically, despite different backs.... the cards are fully compatible. In other words, I can use Mega Man against these guys. Cards woukd have to be sleeved of course.... but they follow the same rule set.
Art of the cards and placemats look beautiful
hope the crit role challenger series goes well for you guys!
got to peace on this one tho, i don't have the time for all you guys juicyness.
This is a pleasant surprise!
It looks so cool!
The decks are so on point to the characters.
"Mischevious Doodler"
I love the playmats!
Matt unleashed his inner Jester for this
I cannot recommend enough that if you enjoyed this you give the game a shot. I was so happy when two things I loved smashed together like this, and seeing these two playing really made my week.
What is your favorite card from the Challenger Series? I think Big Freaking Explosion is mine.
@@zephy64 Big Freaking Explosion is probably my favorite too
I am a dice goblin and was wondering what dice those are in the middle of the table? Specifically the d6's
Same. I really want those Universus dice they are showing. If anyone knows please share.
I had zero idea what was going on but I am 100% here for listening to Liam be Vax again and Matt's sound effects and Jester voice...
For future videos, please explain how the game works
Its too bad they didn't but if your interested in learning the rules I recommend checking out Tameran Cardwell, or Tolarion Community College has a how to play video.
my two faves playing card games is like christmas for me
Totally enjoyable! Thank you!
Been playing universus a few months, been enjoying it a ton. I only learned about critical roll from meeting Will Friedle. I have the mighty nien deck currently waiting for my lcs to recieve the briarwood stuff to do that campaign most likely next week
I hope you have a lot of fun! I can't wait to get my hands on my Challenger deck too!
Lets go!
MATT WAVING WAS SO CUTE!!
For a second i was like, "i have that shirt..." yeah where did i get it, jeez
Them: It's a fighting game reimagined as a trading card game!
Me: So... it's a trading card game?
Bruh no it means it plays like an actual fighting game
who do you want to see battle next?
As a TCG, I'm sure there's other videos with tutorials and such but as a content video, they really should have included a intro to the game here, so we don't have to digging for another video just to know what is going on
It would be nice if they had, but if you are looking I can recommend checking out Tameran Cardwell, or Tolarion Community College has a learn to play video on the game under My Hero Academia.
This was awesomeness
Jester's should have said "Ya Poopin'?!
Very Awesome can't wait to get on the game and decks
I must add that the card art from what I've seen is very beautiful and well done
@@simonpursall6144 The art is really great. I hope you enjoy playing the game when you get your decks!
it seems like a neat game, I was just lost from the beginning cause I don't know the rules/how to play :(
Same, I was kind of hoping for a bit more newbie friendly of an episode. Maybe if I ever learn the game I'll come back to this video.
@a.r.2679 and @DrgnDrake if you are looking for a how to play check out Tameran Cardwell. Tolarion Community College also has a learn to play video.
I have always wondered, in a three-way fight between Grog, Ashton and Yasha, Who would win?
My vote is that Grog's HP lasts the longest but Yasha wins in the end because of Rage Beyond Death
I'm not as familiar with C1 as I am C2 but the theming feels really strong on these cards.
These two Campaigns have gone far from simple dnd from books to animated shows and now card games these campaigns have now made their own marks in fictional history especially for the dnd franchise !!!!😀😀🥰 And I am here for it.
Wait, you're sorry, but you're also excited and happy about it? Your grammar is confusing. How do you really feel?
@@Misfit_Kitten there fixed it. Also I am saying I am happy
Love this duo 😇
I love how pretty the cards are.
My only criticism is that it has jester labelled as the healer of the Mighty Nein
Ha!
Hey! She healed... At least 4 or 5 times I think. That still counts!
This actually looks like a really fun and original TCG. Just needs more universes (and to be in stock and shipped outside the US).
So currently we have MHA, cowboy Bebop, trigun stampede, yuyu hakusho and Godzilla, licenses to come involve attack on titan, star trek and Tekken 8. Don't forget all the old retro licenses too, it's available in UK, Australia and New Zealand as far as I'm aware and some European countries
@@Bosch6784 Also in Canada, though we sometimes get distributor hiccups.
@@Bosch6784 you forgot mortal kombat and a few others from earlier than the MHA didnt you?
NM. Just had to reread when you included it in the "old retro" part. Just got my first deck. So I'm really trying to give in and learn all I can. Scoped a mk card I'm gonna order for my spike water deck@@Bosch6784
Anyone else feel like the Jester quote should be "Are you pooping?"
cant believe matt survived the second game
Are flipped cards just stuck that way for the game? I never saw them get back.
Yeah, but there are effects on other cards that can unflip foundations.
My brain is to stupid for card games, still going to get it 😂
Hoping for Fjord and Beau, or some Bells Hells. Maybe even some villians
For some reason I thought this was that game where you just have to convince your opponent who would win in a battle, and it sold cards to be a little collector's concept or to guide a narrative. I was surprised once I saw actual mechanics and numbers. I really like the idea of the resource system pushing your luck as you play more cards per turn, but I'm not a super fan of the complexity within the combat system (and I'm not a fan of combat systems overall). I'm totally stealing some ideas from this. Cool game!
What idea from the system did you like the best?
@@zephy64 Warning, Long Post:
The resource management for playing cards from your hand.
So in Magic The Gathering, Eternal Card Game, and I think Pokemon? all have a requirement to draw your resource, play your resource (once per turn) which stacks for future turns.
In Hearthstone and Infinity Wars and MANY others, you're just giving the resource by default.
In Mythguard, you don't have the resources as cards in your deck but all cards can double down as a resource. You return the card back into your deck in order to gain one resourse similar to the above games. It maintains for the rest of the game, but it optimizes the feelsbad of drawing the wrong card - you'll always draw something functional.
This has been varied in many other card games, such as: Exceed Fighting System, where the cards are physically discarded as a resource but upon a successful combat, your combat cards spent are now stored as a second resource; and Disney's Lorcana where any card with a specific "Ink" denotation can be placed as a resource like a land.
In Epic, you get one "gold" resource which is used to play a big card once per turn, but does not stack. 0 cost cards are quite powerful depsite their low numbers because they don't cost your gold, but the big cards are VALUABLE and can be played right out of the gate. During both player's start turn phase, both players set their gold to one, so for every turn, both players can make one big play. No saving up though, so you might as well go as big as you can as fast as you can.
In Flesh and Blood, it combines some of the above concepts. You have one "action" you can take similar to Epic's "gold" resource, but in F&B, there's quite a few cards that can refresh that action. The play pattern in F&B is to play a card with Go Again setting yourself up, maybe do it again, and then payoff. F&B also has a Resource cost for each card, which can be generated by returning a card from your hand back into your deck to pay for that resource cost. The resources do stack **only for that turn** so if you pitch a card providing three resources, you can spend 2, then pitch a card providing one, and spend 2 again. The game's resource management is about balancing what actions you can take for free, what actions let you refresh your important "Action Point" and what cards to pitch to provdie resources to do all that.
However, for this game: The card's target cost is provided on the card but also added with the number of other cards played that turn (+0, +1, +2, etc). To pay the cost, you discard the top card from your deck, and it needs to surpass the cost of the card plus the bonus value. This resource system is unique in that your deck is used as the resource instead of your hand. That alone is huge, as you have the full power right at the beginning like Epic or Flesh and Blood but every cost you pay can punish you in the end when you run out of cards. Additionally, every card in your hand is usable for what it says on the card - it doesn't "double down" as a resource. Doubling Down isn't a bad system, but it's tougher to learn than the obvious resource cards for newer players. New players may look at their hand and miscalculate a resource because it's subtle as the card itself has a bunch of other features taht don't matter. Quite a few times, I've miscalculated my turn in Mythguard or Flesh and Blood because I was including a card planned for a resource.
Additionally, this game utilizes the push your luck aspect by including that randomness of the top card of your deck along with the increasing difficulty of resolving a card. In every other game mentioned, the randomness is when you draw the right resource or it doesn't even have randomness in their resource management. I believe resource management needs randomness, but only slightly. Adding in that randomness allows you to design around it in some way, but you have to avoid players depending on it. In Epic, the resource management isn't random, so whoever got their biggest bestest card basically wins. In the first bunch of games, alongside Magic The Gathering, it's too random; thus, players who have to get more than 5 mana in play requires players to add interaction with it. Without that interaction, you could just be sitting around doing nothing waiting to draw that land or sigil or energy.
But the idea in UniVersus works really well because you have that randomness but you'll always be able to PLAY the card - it may not resolve, but it feels much better than the card just sitting in your hand doing nothing. The developer can design around that randomness to make a card stronger or more interesting without requiring the player to play such a card. It adds an interesting design aspect to discard usage - can the player use their discard pile to their advantage? If so, I'm playing 5 cards each turn just to fill my discard pile, whether the card succeeds or not. Maybe cards do something else when they do fail? This allows the randomness to not be a complete failure or to be even more punishing to make the reward significant.
The resource management alone makes UniVersus quite interesting design wise. It makes me want to return to a design I had a while ago that built on a similar system.
@@XoIoRouge Thats a really interesting take. I know of the course of the games history the discard pile has had lots of different uses for some characters. There was one character in the past year (no longer in standard rotation) that unironically ran a 107 card deck and could win consistently because the character scaled well with the discard pile and you wanted to keep yourself from running out and cycling your deck.
I am now constantly playing this game.
Be kind of hard to get Jester and Nott on one side and the Twins on the other side given Laura would have to be playing on both sides :D I'd still be down for it haha.
This was funzies. Hopefully more to come? 🙏💕😻
why can`t we buy this outside of the US T-T
Where can I get these cards and how much are they?
You can find them at a lot of card game retailers but Rochester CCG has them for 28.99 USD. Not sure where you are located so I can't give a better recommendation.
Seems like a cool game, though probably not something I'll play. Caper Cards is a lot of fun, though!
Anybody know what app they are using for keeping track of health ?
I don't recognize it. I would love to know.
I want the Jester deck, because Jester.
Me too, it looks like fun to me.
Hope more character decks will come out from C1 and C2. Maybe C3 once its finished, but not before ^^
For sleeves, i wish it would be dragonshield matte art, abdolutely the best detail and shuffle feel combined, ultra pro has a tendency to stick when there is artwork invovled
This looks very complicated. What are the rules?
The pronunciation that Matt did for Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho hurt my soul. It wasn't even close... :'(
I need this game on PC like yesterday.
is there someone who can tell me how i can get the cards in germany?
Could I just buy one deck and play vex vs vax or would I need two copies to do so?
You'd need to buy two Vox Machina ones if you want to have a pure Vex vs Vax.
Another idea you COULD try is buying a copy of both the Vox Machina and Mighty Nein, then switching all of Vex's cards for Nott's cards (keeping both decks at 60 cards). You'd have one deck with Vax and Nott, and the other would have Vex and Jester. 🤔
(Due to deck construction rules, that would be the switch you'd have to make to keep the decks legal).
yeah each deck is only 60 card so you'd need a second. @felixcortesgratacos9597 That is a great idea to keep the two decks different and fresh!
Glorious cards
Looks quite interesting to me ^_^
Wow this looks better than the munchkin one, the art was kinda weird on that one
How much

Everything is Advertising these days huh?
How dare they advertise something they are collaborating with, and on their channel no less. The gaul, oh the humanity!
Eu sem entender porra nenhuma
Kind of a bummer to think that if you took these decks somewhere to play you'd possibly have to run it against an anime deck or someone mixing anime cards into it. I have no qualms with anime at all, but mixing CR with, say, MHA doesn't feel right.
Kinda wish CR would keep doing their own thing instead. I think they have enough content to build a Dungeon Mayhem type game or even a Smash-Up clone, etc. I'll just wait until Darrington Press puts something together.
How do you feel about fighting games? Before anime they were doing Street Fighter, Darkstalkers and SNK.
Yes, more consumerism! 😅
…. was meh. somewhat entertaining at least. 🤷🏻♀️
Oh great… a card game. Another card game. To spends hundreds of thousands on. Pass.

@@Anonymoose0523You're the one being toxic here, lol.
Konradical's comment of "Don't ever try magic" was not an insult. It was a bit negative, but it wasn't an insult. "Yeah, I don't plan on it. It's too complicated as well. Glad we agree."
You could say anything targeting that specific comment of YOU not wanting to play Magic.
Instead, you decided to insult the game and players, calling the audience 12 years old (or more specifically, immature and childish).
That's what makes you the immature and childish one.
Don't argue that you're more mature for a card game if you're not mature enough to have a normal conversation.
