  • Bodycam: 12-year-old arrested for stabbing her 9-year-old brother | The murder of a nine-year-old boy by his sister, 12, has gripped the nation and left people asking: What turns a seemingly ordinary child into a killer? The Oklahoma girl stabbed her brother with a kitchen knife three times in January in what appeared to be an unprovoked attack before waking up her mother and divulging in floods of tears what she had done. Doctors have warned that certain drugs or an undiagnosed personality disorder could drive a child to kill - with it now emerging that the girl had just come off an unnamed ADHD medication.

I remember reading all about this. The boy died. The girl was on some kind of new psych medication that was allegedly causing her to have memory loss and weird blackout periods. She may have been in a kind of blackout state when she stabbed her brother. She is now committed to a mental asylum, likely for a very long time. It’s all just so terribly sad.

I looked it up. This happened in January of 2023. The brother did pass away at the hospital. The girl was having a sort of manic episode (possibly from being taken on and off adhd meds) and she said she doesn’t remember doing it, like something came over her that caused her to do that. The mental health specialist who are working with her believe her. The son and daughter have different dads, the boys dad helped raise the kids and has a criminal past (went to jail for torturing and killing their family pet and in jail he got into an altercation in which he caused his cellmate to have brain damage). Apparently the siblings were close but a few weeks prior to the incident, she told some of her friends that she wanted to stab her brother (she started to self harm so they took her off her adhd meds and then this happened)

    • @podunkfunk
      @podunkfunk Месяц назад +1857

She might have had a comorbidity either her adhd. Most people with adhd have some sort of comorbidity. Mostly it's anxiety or depression that is usually managed by adhd meds, but other times it's something like ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) which is a common mental illness with those in Prison. Depending on the adhd meds, she might have had too much or too little and that was causing the self harm. Also, being female, depending on her cycle, if she has one yet, I find that my meds don't work as well through certain parts of my cycle.

100%…There is no need for people to provide some excuse or distance the blame from this demented child. I have a mentally stunted second cousin, 14 yrs, who through his early life was neglected, abused, and was provided no form of a proper education until second grade. This was when my aunt began taking care of her own grandson as her own daughter and son in law had the inability to properly do so. He had been on and off medication for severe ADHD for several years until my aunt got him properly diagnosed for a really mild form of ASD. Even with all the things he has lived through, not just with his pathetic parents, but medication, not once has he expressed any troubling behavior not to people or animals. In fact, I’d say he loves animals more than anything, and owns a pet turtle, hamster, dog, duck, and frog that my aunt got all for him.

Fr I feel like majority of crimes wouldn’t even happen if mental illness was taken more seriously and treated correctly from the start. And if there wasn’t a stigma and people weren’t in denial to their own mental illnesses and think that treating it makes them weak. And then you see horrifying cases, and people are upset that the person who committed the crime is using mental illness as an “excuse” to commit crimes, when it’s not an excuse it’s a *reason* people who have untreated mental illness end up in positions like that. It doesn’t make what happened any less horrifying or tragic to say that mental illness was likely a cause. It should open people’s eyes. Denying that mental illness can turn into something really bad and horrific is what keeps people from becoming more aware of it and treating it correctly.

this is tragic all around and heartbreaking. the poor mother has lost two children. as someone who has had psychosis before, i was out of control in my own body. it was legitimately terrifying, and a mental experience i'd never wish on anyone. i was admitted to a psychiatric hospital to fully recover. mental health needs to be taken more seriously, because this girl is unwell and clearly off her antipsychotic medication. though even if i can empathize, i don't think anyone could forgive her. when i was in a state of psychosis, i never made attempts to seriously injure anyone. this is the unimaginable.

I think that's the story, because meds don't just make children psychotic, meds usually are dangerous when it's prescribed for the wrong thing, overdose or in this case, which technically is not the medication's fault, withdrawing from a medication without proper consultation

If anyone wants to know what happened, here it is: The boy ended up dying in the hospital and the girls mom believes the girls ADHD medication caused it, shed been on it for 5 straight years and then was taken off for about a month and put back on it, she began getting worse and ended up hurting herself before the incident and was taken off the meds again. Her friends allegedly were told that she had thought about hurting her brother but never thought she’d actually do it. Over 6 months have gone by and the medical professionals working with her believe that this was not something the girl did on purpose, nor do they believe it was her specialty that did it. Her mother and medical team believes it was simply a medication imbalance.

Student pharmacist here, you don't just abruptly stop your antipsychotic medications because the withdrawals will be far worse than you can imagine. Also these are heavily regulated and monitored, you just don't take a pill and call it a day. There should be someone who needs to constantly supervise you and check you from time to time. Psychosis is a complicated disorder, but is definitely manageable with the right help and guidance as well as reliable health providers.

This happened to my neighbors that lived a couple doors down from me in the summer of 2020. I always saw the oldest child, who was a 13year old boy at the time, with his younger siblings watching them alone. My childhood was similar and I felt bad for him because he was way too young to be in charge of so many kids ALL the time and always seemed really frustrated by them. When I was his age and always left with my younger siblings I felt the same way, so I didn’t think much of it past feeling for him and knowing what it’s like to be parentified from a very young age. He had probably started watching them 24/7 at a much younger age like I had and was completely exhausted and fed up. One day he grabbed his dad’s gun and shot his 6year old brother in the head point blank killing him instantly. It was a tragedy and absolute nightmare. He was immediately sent to prison and I believe his parents were tried as well.

100%. Don't quit medications cold turkey. Also another theory for what could have happened is a misdiagnosis. Adhd medication can be addictive but it doesn't cause psychotic breaks, UNLESS. The unless is important. You have bipolar disorder. Many people with bipolar CANNOT have ANY stimulants. Especially not ones so concentrated like with adhd medication, it most likely will cause a psychotic break, and the breaks only get worse the longer you're on them. This could have very well been a possibility. Truth is her mental health support system, more specifically her therapist and psychiatrist really failed her on this. She should have been more closely monitored.

ADHD itself DOES NOT make you dangerous. However, the medications in VERY RARE cases DO CAUSE psychotic and manic-like symptoms, as well as an increased risk of suicidal thoughts. We’ve had to have numerous hospital stays for his safety and those around him.

I don't even know how that could correlate to behavior like this. She knew damn well at 12 years old what she did. My brother is 11 years my junior. I'm practically like a second mom to the kid. I couldn't even imagine accidentally hurting him let alone stab him. I heard the poor boy passed away at the hospital. This story is absolutely heartbreaking. The girl needs to be locked up forever. To be able to kill your own sibling, especially when you're both children, it's too late for you. You know she really doesn't care. If she did, she'd be crying for her brother. stuff like this just breaks me on both sides bc imagining if that kid rly did have issues that were undiagnosed and maybe didn’t even know what they did until it was too late idk idek i don’t know adhd is on the autism spectrum tho and it’s symptoms can sometimes be mixed up with bpd and bipolar disorder but I don’t want to give that such a bad wrap wish I could read ppls minds and see if they r malicious or not

Yea, I've had really severe adhd my entire life, and i can't for the life of me place how medication or lack thereof could cause *violent* tendencies. Adhd is different for everyone, that's true, but im at a loss here.
Soooo, turns out she's grown up around felons, drug addicts, and white supremacists. Methinks that might have more to do with it than adhd...

This girl needs actual empathetic, researched help. The mental health system FAILED her as it does so many other children. I have permanent brain damage from medication I was prescribed as a small child and throughout my adolescence. These disgusting psychiatrists and doctors prescribe these drugs like they are bandaids and so many children suffer the consequences. They CAN cause violent thoughts, impulsivity, and all sorts of other harmful symptoms. Her mother even said she had no behavioral problems until starting medication for ADHD. The psychiatrist who prescribed the medication is the person who should be charged for this crime.

I see a few comments explaining and they are wrong. The daughter suffered from ADHD she was on medication for 5 years. She was getting homeschooled so they took her off and she was completely fine. Then a year later they decided to put her back on bc she was going back to public school, now this is where she self harmed ONCE and her mother and doctors decided to take her off. This is when the daughter described she was feeling very angry and irritated for no reason. She SH before stabbing her brother. The daughter absolutely had no idea what she did. It’s been said by the daughter’s specialist and mother that it’s true that she didn’t know why she did it. And btw the kids were really close. So no it wasn’t the mom neglecting her children’s mental health. You can literally search up the title from this video on Google or wtv and the story is there !

So True...This is why I don't put my kids in medication. One has bipolar, another autism and the other ADHD and all those meds have dangerous side effects. Ritalin if not tampered can cause huge violet outburst and one of the meds was literally making my son very sick. Instead I put my kids in school programs that fit their criteria and needs, took them to occupational therapy and other therapy sessions. Looked for every program available that can benefit them without having to do pills and that has helped them immensely. They are healthy and free from dangerous side effects. Last was my son is highly allergic and the doctors wanted to prescribe singulair which also has suicidal, violent and gives sleep distuance. I said NO and instead took him to immunotherapy shots which are very effective and more safe than those pills.

According to the media, the mother was a drug addict for years. The girl's father was a serious criminal and served time in prison. The boy's father was an alcohol abuser. So the mother definitely made a lot of mistakes! Maybe the mother was a loving mother, but directly or indirectly, her decisions had too much of a bad influence on her children's lives. And that's probably just the tip of the iceberg. We don't even know when the mother was addicted to drugs, perhaps during pregnancy? How did the family evenings go in this family, probably less heart-warming. ADHD doesn't come from nowhere either. But it is easier to put the children on medication than to examine the root of the problem and really help. Now there is a dead child and a sword traumatised girl who can never wake up from this medicated psychosis. Congratulations.

ugh… the lack of empathy in this comment section… this girl is twelve years old and has a serious history of severe mental illness and was never given the help she needed. i can’t imagine what was going through her head when she did this, but i know she doesn’t deserve to die in prison. she needs help. she knows what she did was unimaginably horrific, you can hear it in her voice. let’s not put children behind bars before they’re developed. they need help, not trauma. i’m not saying she’s justified or that this was ok. i’m just saying have a little empathy. mental illness is never taken as seriously as it should be in these cases
