Haven’t had any problems with my 2018 GTI. Just been keeping up with regular maintenance. DSG maintenance is a bit pricey, but it doesn’t have to be done that often.
Love the practicality and small packaging. Brought my daughter home from the hospital in it and just did our first road trip - it managed to handle all the stuff a 10mo needs to visit family for thanksgiving.

25:39 I had the same thoughts as Zac. If they don't hybrid the ADX then UXh will remain free of competitors. And if Acura takes that step then Lexus will have no choice but to rework the cabin so that people with legs can fit in the back seat.

    1. Zack claims that the depreciation of EVs is 18% per year and that of gas models is 3% per year. The latter is a surprising figure to say the least. Can someone provide the link to the article that reports this figure? Other sources report that gasoline models depreciate on average 13% per year. (Of course the actual depreciation depends on the model and the car, especially its mileage.)
    2. Incentives depress the prices of new and used cars. This is bad for you if you bought an EV without incentives and then incentives were introduced. If you bought with incentives and the incentives continue then you are fine. If you buy now with incentives then you stand to benefit in coming years as incentives are scaled back.

Zack advises a viewer to buy their Volvo at the end of the lease period because they've "already paid for half of it". This advice requires some qualification. Buying a car at the end of the lease period might make financial sense *if* the car's residual value is less than its market value.

Just a thought

In fact it will have fewer reliability issues than a Volkswagen or Audi or Tesla.

your answer to best time to buy a car didn't take into account the practice of companies releasing cars mid year and calling them next year's model - eg 2025 Toyota Camry has been out for a while so waiting till January doesn't seem to have much advantage until they say when the 26 model is coming and then the month or so before that they want to clear out the 25's would seem to be the optimal time to buy a 25...

off the lot price drop - I have said that is wrong for years - it depends "where that depreciation is" right - if it is in my pocket I think it is not bad. If you take the car price includes a 1.9% rate - well you gave that to the dealer - or is if you pay for the brand - well you have to wait until you sell it to get that benefit (if the car is still around - ownership risk you took on). Heck I say, take the $5000 depreciation everyone else is waiting to get back and invest it in your retirement.

It is a good match for my "smooth" driving style and when I need to accelerate to merge with traffic, you can feel the turbo kick in. Instead of flooring it, I give it about 80% throttle and that provides ample acceleration.

The 2 I've had were absolute lemons and they were 3 and 5 years in on the drivetrain designs so the bugs should have been worked out on these. Never again. Hybrids have a much smaller battery so your costs will always be lower. For example a RAV4 hybrid has a 1.6 kWh battery whereas the RAV4 plug-in hybrid has a 18.1 kWh battery. Manufacturers have different price points for battery replacement costs which are difficult to find to be honest with you, costs aren't publicized. I am surprised by the cost of the Wrangler 4xe battery, it seems very high. As for pure electric vehicles, batteries range in size between 58 kWh to much higher, some are 200 kWh for a larger vehicle like a pick up truck. If cells within the battery can't be replaced, the cost to replace a battery will be much higher. As time goes on and batteries are recycled and cells can be replaced, the costs will come down.

To the guy who asked about the VW Tiguan: When MQB Tiguan first came out in 2018, I waited a year since I didn’t want a first year model and bought a 2019 new. SEL Premium. 11 months of ownership, nothing but headache. The list of issues I had is way too long to write here, but I traded in with a big loss in value with only 8k miles on it. To give you an idea, I drive an average of 20 to 25k miles a year, but the Tiguan spent so much time at the dealer I couldn’t drive it. And no, Lemon law didn’t apply because in NY it has to be a repeated issue when I had multitude of different stuff. Even though I lost all that money by selling it so soon, it was one of my happiest days ever. Getting rid of it was a cause for celebration.

But the prospective next owner (even at five years) won’t be able to get battery replacement out of his mind, hence major depreciation.
On the other hand, my PHEV battery (1/3 to 1/4 the size / cost) won’t be nearly as big a factor.

We don't like it, it's very clunky and is not very smooth. There have been countless updates on the transmission, you are right but it still isn't smooth. We are in an inline 6 X3 this week with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it's night and day. I also want to share a story with you from a viewer who DM'd me on Instagram and was not happy. He bought a CX-90 PHEV and his wife is very upset with the purchase. She described the transmission as being very clunky and jerky. I told him to work with the dealership and make sure that all the software updates have been done which they had. So while you feel the 8-speed automatic transmission is good, maybe you own a CX-90 or CX-70 and it's fine for you, the transmission is unpredictable and some consumers don't agree with you. We have heard other complaints about these two models as well. I love Mazda, I think they put out wonderful models but these two are far from perfect.

CVT's: It's a crazy culture war thing. So much of car-talk is just adolescent males dreaming about what 300bhp sports car they want to drive, so of course they crap all over "appliances" and make the same tired cliches. The people who are still complaining loudly for manuals are the worst, because they've obviously never driven modern manuals in non-sports cars... modern manuals are geared taller than they should be and have rev-hang issues in order to pass emissions, in which case there's barely any point when the CVT is actually faster and more fuel efficient. In our family we have a CVT and a geared-automatic, and the CVT pulls away better and smoother from a stop light. It's not like normal people don't care and are settling for worse... in most cases the CVT is the *best* option.

None of the car review channels mentioned as I asked you to inform the consumers about cost buying EVs and how much they will lose!!! You can look back my EV comments since the government propaganda started. Now people who did buy EVs because been coerced by not fully informed by car review channels for $60.000, not only pay interest on the loan, but already lost $20.000 and still have three years on loan. He will pay $70.000 plus he can sell it after five years for $10.000. Good job car review channels. But, who cares? NOT YOUR MONEY! IS IT?
