I’ve watched a few videos on how to do this. This one is really good, easy to follow, and easy to repeat. Thank you for sharing! Now it’s time to go practice!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Josh...by far the easiest and bet explained form to color grade on FCPX I have seen. Even a caveman (me) can do it. I did exactly as you did, the only thing is that after I corrected to color I then added an Out then a little sharpness and boom. I love the way it looks now. You Rock brother...we are forever grateful.
Glad the video was helpful for you. Thanks for watching!
There are so many tutorials about the same subject but yours is clean and easy to understand. I learned a lot. Thank you 👍
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Now that was the best video describing color grading with FCP. I just wish that the color board process could be more automatic and AI driven with self identification of different boards like Spyder Checkr etc.
I never understood fully how to use a color checker until now. Thank you for this tutorial!
You're welcome. Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Yo this was super thorough but also really easy to follow. Job well done man 🙏🏼
Thanks Chris!
Yes! no plugins! Great walkthrough, well done Josh!
Thanks Rafael! I have really been enjoying learning and practicing color grading.
I strictly use premier but I can see how this all carries over. Such a great and simple/straight to the point tutorial! I really appreciate the amount of work you put into this, please continue to share your knowledge, you have some valuable bits.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
thank you very much for this. deserves more likes and views but what can we do? the world isnt fair.
Thanks for all the content you share with us. I like the colours you get from your videos and I'm glad you show how to do it in your style.
Cheers from the UK
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
@@Josh_Sattin the only con for me is that I'm a windows and davinci user. But I'll try to replicate that. Thanks once again
@@bncprado There are lots of tutorials out there. I plan on making a video about how I quickly color grade at some point soon. I don't always go through all of these steps.
Thanks!
You're welcome. Thank you for the support!
Excellent tutorial Josh! Definitely going to try this method 👊
Thanks Jay!
You learn something new every day, thanks Josh! 🙂
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I don't generally subscribe to people but your videos are amazing and I actually want to know when your videos are released!
Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate the support!
A superb tutorial - many thanks!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Excellent, is there a method for run and gun setting up like no grey card or colour checker or still use those somehow?
Great Video on Hue, saturation, and brightness.
Great as always, Thank you
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Very much enjoyed the video. Always looking for better techniques. Thank you

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. A hugely clear and helpful tutorial!
Wow! this is very helpful.
I'm glad it was helpful for you. Thanks for watching!
wow dude... i think I've been looking for this video for like 5 years now LOL
I hope it helps! I feel like a lot of this is pretty simple, but you just need some basic stuff to start with. Takes a lot of practice to get good though.
you sir just gave a master class ....2 questions ....where would using a custom lut fall into the equation would I do all of this then add the lut last? last quetion why not do all of this on the adjustment layer so when you add new clips to your storyline everything just matchs ...you cloud slice the layer to tweak it as needed. eitherway thank you thank you thank you!
I have the same question as yours. Seems like this color correction from scratch is only for indoor shooting environments like an interview setting. But for movies and cinematic with various lighting conditions, a custom LUT is the only choice to fix the color.
Gonna buy the color checker & gray card… I can’t seem to get any good skin tone on my talking head shot… I exposed skin to 52ire using zebra, soon as saw zebra I backed keylight down to not see zebra. But after I use the FCP built in lut… no adjusting helpful. Will be back to follow this tutorial, thx
Also, do you have any lighting tutorial? Wondering is that might be area of opportunity for me… I use parabolic softbox at 5600k for my key.
I have the color checker for photography, but it doesn’t have the black, grey and white strips on the color checker. Is there a way to use the photography color checker and just isolate the Black, grey and white squares on that to do the same as here?
Thanks @JoshSattin such a great tutorial, as I shoot a lot outdoors with natural light would say using a color checker and placing it next to my subject or scene could be useful? Any advice would be great appreciated.
You're welcome. Yeah, you can make adjustments later if you have the color checker recorded in the scene.
@@Josh_Sattin Brilliant thank you I will invest in one.
Great work here on the video. I was already using the color checker for photography. Mine isn’t a video one but I could still use it to mask my highlights shadows and highlights using the smaller squares on my color checker of those shades correct? Or no? Thanks 👍🏽
Thanks! I don't have any experience with that color checker, but probably okay if you choose the right squares.
@@Josh_Sattin thanks Josh 🙏🏽
Would it be posible to export a photo (one frame) from the video and then process it in the Datacolor software to make a ligthroom preset... and then... copy the corrections to the video editor? Too much work?
Brilliant, thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I think the camera has its own style so you neutralise it doign like that, it can be good start to match different cam but here on your skin, the canon style is beter than natural right ? ^^ I know it's the way to neutralise not totally white light source also. Thanks for the video :)
What should I do if many clips were shot outdoors with changing light and shadows ? Just like your farming videos.
That is a slightly different approach. The best thing is to get the white balance and exposure as close as possible in the camera. You could also use the color checker outside.
Thanks for the video. I think the Title is a little bit wrong, it should be Color Correction? It's not grading for me...
i stopped this video....... as soon as you added a LUT.......... ??????
Thanks!
