really enjoying these collab review, reviewers supplementing and disagreeing with each other when necessary keep this review very useful and interesting to watch, especially when the hobby is a subjectivity driven one.
Yeah, one thing they seem to agree is not reviewing the actual product… they both have different pads on that cost a significant % of the headphone itself. This isn’t a review of the FT1 Pro.
I personally love to pad swap, I have an entire tote full of various pads, so that makes this compelling to me. I do feel like the Edition XS tend to EQ really well, but I can't really pad swap those unless I buy Dekoni, which is fine but there isn't a budget option for that headphone. I can almost guarantee that I have a set of pads in my tote that would make the FT-1 pro sound better at a sub $10 price point. I am now going to have to buy a pair just to play with them.
I like the review format - it is really a good conversation. I would greatly appreciate links or suggestions for the headphone strap and the pads you settled on / suggestions linked in the description. I love my Edition XS (esp. the $270 price) but the hot spot is really bugging me. A good strap would do a world of good, and the fact I could use it on multiple sets would be great.
I think these guys need a blind headphone test. Take their 3 favorite song, and score 10 headphones then decide on the top three. The limiting factor is they have to be played on the same amp. Once you use different amps, the test is garbage. I definitely kown that tube versus solid state can widely affect sound. Even solid state amps make differences in performance.
Hey! I find this format of review is very enjoyable. Apart from the format, I think there is too much word wasted on pad swapping and comfort. 1, Fit and comfort is very good for most people. No headphone is comfortable for everyone, but saying people absolutely need to buy pads and a head strap (affecting cost) is a great exaggeration. There is a big difference between some people finding room for improvement and being unbearable for most users. 2, Pad swapping always affects FR, seal with glasses, etc to some extent. Readers or listeners are interested in the product, not your collection of pads. Swapping is easy, risk-free and there is a plethora of options, great, but most people dont even need or want to swap them at all.
great review...thanks! i do have the sundaras and the Ft1 closed.... one thing i really like of the ft1 (without eq) is the bass extension; way more 'palpable' and extended than the sundaras. for that reason and the fact if keeps a pretty balanced overall presentation i find if more useful for my mixing purposes than the sundaras....shocking, but true. (by the way, i also own a pair of sennheiser HD600 which i absolutely love for their intimate presentation and lovely natural mids, but again, weirdly, i find my mixes translate better to other equipment when done on the ft1.... hmmmmm....
Haa, thanks for comment. I like HD6** series a lot, basically use as daily driver but I need something closed backs (something way better than M50X) which has neutral presentation, not as bright as, say Sundara, and with more reliable drivers.

Recently switched from a HE400SE (terrible build quality) to a pair of Fiio FT5. I drive them using an ifi zen dac v2. The FT5's are a sleeper in the industry as far as I can see, not a lot of attention on them but they are superb. Build quality is excellent, the bass is exceptional without being overwhelming. This is the first pair of headphones that I don't feel like equalizing. They are not neutral headphones and on the warmer side, but they are excellent for non-critical listening. u should buy hifiman arya v2 it‘s better than ft1pro。 To be honest, the quality of the FT1 Pro is not higher than that of the HE400SE. It's just that the 91dB sensitivity of the HE400SE makes it too difficult to reach its upper limit. So on not-so-advanced front ends, the FT1 Pro performs better, but it doesn't achieve a qualitative change. However, the Arya v2 has an obvious upgrade in quality by one notch.
Is this the best planar magnetic headphone at the price range of $200? Is there something way better that cost $50-100 more? I’ve been wanting to try planer magnetics for the longest now. This one and the 7hz timeless piqued my interest.
I use my Sony MD 1A since 2015, have all Apple headphones and JBL Life 760, IEMs like 7 HZ Timeless, Crinical Red etc. I'm thinking of buying FiiO FT 1 or Pro, unfortunately there is only the possibility of others' opinions, intended to replace Sony MD 1A. A lot of hard rock and electric guitars.
I still want to know who designed the Phillips SHP 9500. That person is a genius ! A cheap open back for the masses. I broke it after 4 years, falling asleep in my bed.If you put thick leather pads on it 110cm by 80 cm, it's a banger, just like my Superlux 688b. Does anybody know who makes replacement pads for the Monoprice 560 ? I went to thier website, the pads no longer in stock.
Would love to hear a comparison with HE400se Stealth. Both with EQ as well. Sundara is imo rather overpriced when XS is almost the same price and HE400se Stealth is so close with perhaps better bass performance or more engaging at least.
@Mssv2013 I haven't A/B tested HE400se Stealth and Sundara, but from memory Sundara has a bit more tightness to the bass, but much less weight so the former might actually be better in many situations. Edition XS improves other areas more than bass though I would take them over the other two. All this assumes EQ as in what they're capable of and not just stock tuning.
@@AnbuReckz Maybe I've just been lucky with the ones I've owned (original he400 and sundara). Both had no sound or build quality issues whilst I owned them. I just got rid of them because I wasn't the biggest fan of the sound.
We don't know yet, it's just a matter of time. All I can say is I haven't been very happy with the build quality of their IEMs but that was a few years ago now. I had two cables break and the mmcx connections failed too
Hifiman build quality is ass. Considering the hifimans original cost or even the arya stealth original cost it is kinda insane how they got beaten build quality wise by so many headphones half their price.
6xx keeps breaking the $200 barrier. I don’t like them personally, yes i’ve tried different pads. I just shouldn’t have started out with sennheiser as my first audiophile headphone (i love bass). XS is just a better headphone in my opinion just for the bigger sound
How do these headphones compare to the Meze 105 AER, Sivga p2 Pro and Sivga SV023? I suppose the Fiio FT1 Pro are worse/cheaper made, but what about the sound, is it worth paying a little more for the 105 or one of the Sivgas? I am also considering buying the Hifiman HE6SE V2 which is probably a class above in many respects, but I am discouraged by the fact that they are heavy and uncomfortable (and yes, I know, an efficient amplifier is necessary). I mainly care about good quality, low punching bass and nice holography and spatiality (I listen mainly to ambient, downtempo and experimental electronica).
The HE6SE is worth spending more money on as it has an obvious upgrade in grade. Additionally, it should be noted that the V1 is better than the V2. However, the difficulty in driving the HE6SE can't be put in the same category as those mentioned before. The HE6SE is a "monster" that requires an amplifier to drive. Besides the drawbacks of difficult driving and heavy weight, its adaptability to different music styles is rather narrow. It is still more inclined towards instrumental music, and the vocal performance is rather rough.
Why is everyone sleeping on the exceptional Fiio FT5's? It seems like it's the industry's black sheep. Sad as the build quality is superb, the package overall is an amazing offer and sound is awesome as long as it matches your preferred sound profile (or you can just EQ). I know it's mentioned that these are better than the FT5, but how exactly? Price-wise? Sound-wise?
What are the Sennheisers you guys are wearing, and have you reviewed them? The struggle for me is alway to find something that sounds good but doesn't look like I'm directing planes at the airport, since I have a very narrow head.
It was slightly mentioned but would it be better to buy these at $250 with some pads or strap to make them better or get the Hifiman edition XS at $270 now or maybe even the Sundara at $229? Asking as a hobbyist that just enjoys music and powering off Questyle M15i that DMS recommended for simple set up that could power the hifi headphones and probably the Fiio. Wish i could try the three to pick my favorite but doesn't always work that way. I listen to all kinds of music, Vocal Rock, Rap, Trance, Country Jazz Spanish Music etc.
This is not a warmer Edition XS, soundstage differences are night and day between the two. You will read this comparison over and over again, because thats what people think, when they see the FR graph, but the XS is spacious where the FT1 Pro is rather intimate...side the side the XS is on another level, especially after EQ
@@sampokojiin Yeah, I love the sound that come out of my Edition XS, but even with the capra strap and endless reseating, it never feels like I'm wearing it correctly.
@@sampokojiin well yeah, of course. driver size plays a huge role here. i don't get your point. this isn't about wether the FT1 pro are better for your usecase, this is about that they don't come close to the Edition XS. In every discussion about these i read, they are "just like" the XS, which is nonsense. they have a comparable tonality, sure, but so do speakers that are EQed towards a similar target.
@@SiegwardZwiebelbrudi I guess they can be similar enough subjectively, I guess the reason why they are both being compared and assimilated to each other because the FT1 Pros sit closer in performance to the Xs rather than the Sundaras. FT1 Pros have a more forward midrange like the HD6XX/650 that the Edition Xs doesn't have, but has the same recesses around 1.8khz region which the 6XX/650s don't have. The edition Xs does have a sparklier upper treble but that can be assumed because of the different dampening materials and minor difference in upper frequency tuning. I do get your point though that they don't similar enough for you, but if other people see and interpret the FR's in an objective way then I can see the argument why someone would call the FT1 Pros a warmer Edition Xs. Personally and maybe objectively, the reason why the Edition Xs sounds much different is because of the driver size difference which is another factor to consider because these won't be able to be seated perfectly on an unlucky person's ears and therefore sound subjectively worse. I disagree with my statement being useless lmao. But I get why you would say that. Sorry about wording it too poorly. Anatomy plays a huge part in sound perception.
Had bought the Edition XS a few weeks before these came out for $240. Had the chance to get the FT1 Pro yesterday for about $160. 🥲 As much as I wanted to still get them just coz of how cheap they are (plus the fact that they have your seal of approval), just couldn't justify another headphone purchase right now especially since my HD 600 are also arriving soon. 😅 I also have the FT1. So i really am set on headphones for *hopefully* a long enough while.
If you're happy with your current stuff, just forget about new headphones for the most part. Get too many and you start listening to your equipment more than the music.
@teeteetuu94 sadly, 2nd hand market where I am isn't great. Would lose a ton of value plus would take a long time to sell off as well. I will learn to be content. 😂 And the Edition XS are wonderful to listen to!
I sense these are annoying to reviewers because they are so cheap and still match the preference zone better than much more expensive and much more praised sets.
I'd like to point out that the screws that hold earcups are tiny and they can unscrew or even break under the weight of the earcup with bigger drivers on this headband.
@@JamesAlexanderFoxhal I Had tried both and ending is I keep my MM-100. FT1 pro cant match MM-100 technical. MM-100 are more resolve, transient? / better micro detail / more clarity / better stage and imaging Layering and also more comfortable. FT1 pro very good for the price.

I’ve been wanting to try planer magnetics for the longest now. This one and the 7hz timeless piqued my interest.
You can get a better Arya v2 by spending an extra two hundred dollars. Below this price, it's basically the best one.
Momentum 4 vs FT1 (since I got the first. and RESOLVE has it also.) Cheers
Momentum 4 (BT) vs FT1 (since I got the first. and RESOLVE has it also.) Cheers
I died laughing at the beginning... thanks for that
I still want to know who designed the Phillips SHP 9500.
Where you did get the strap?
I can't send links, but if you search for "Capra Audio comfort strap" on google, you'll find it :D
Capra Audio
Would love to hear a comparison with HE400se Stealth. Both with EQ as well. Sundara is imo rather overpriced when XS is almost the same price and HE400se Stealth is so close with perhaps better bass performance or more engaging at least.
Which has punchier bass, the He400Se, Sundara, or the XS?
@Mssv2013 I haven't A/B tested HE400se Stealth and Sundara, but from memory Sundara has a bit more tightness to the bass, but much less weight so the former might actually be better in many situations. Edition XS improves other areas more than bass though I would take them over the other two. All this assumes EQ as in what they're capable of and not just stock tuning.
The AR5000 is really good too.
I own the Edition XS. Should I buy the FT1 Pro, or should I consider other options like the Focal Celestee, HD 660S2, or Aune AR5000?
Is this going to have better build quality and QC than the Edition XS? Otherwise might as well get the XS and replace the headband
QC with HiFiMan is a mixed bag you might get a good pair you might not.
What better FT1 pro or FT1?
6xx keeps breaking the $200 barrier. I don’t like them personally, yes i’ve tried different pads. I just shouldn’t have started out with sennheiser as my first audiophile headphone (i love bass). XS is just a better headphone in my opinion just for the bigger sound
Hello, Is a DAC still needed or is the included HI-RES AUDIO sufficient?
What pads tend to fit well??
Why is everyone sleeping on the exceptional Fiio FT5's? It seems like it's the industry's black sheep. Sad as the build quality is superb, the package overall is an amazing offer and sound is awesome as long as it matches your preferred sound profile (or you can just EQ).
I know it's mentioned that these are better than the FT5, but how exactly? Price-wise? Sound-wise?
Video about pads or fiio great headphones...for the price?
@capraaudio, which of your straps is best for the FIIO FT1 Pro?
@tracycrum3788
CapraAudio "Sony MDR7506/FiiO FT1 Comfort Strap", $20 USD.
I dont have any Planars, but have the 6xx (love them). Should i make these my 1st Planars?
What are the Sennheisers you guys are wearing, and have you reviewed them? The struggle for me is alway to find something that sounds good but doesn't look like I'm directing planes at the airport, since I have a very narrow head.
DMS hd620 and resolve looks like momentum 4’s
Is there anywhere we can purchase this suspension strap that you have conjured up? I'd love to put one on my FT1.
That's capra audio's strap, search for "capra audio fiio ft1"
@TroupsterT
CapraAudio "Sony MDR7506/FiiO FT1 Comfort Strap", $20 USD.
I listen to all kinds of music, Vocal Rock, Rap, Trance, Country Jazz Spanish Music etc.
this is very good; more of this please; but just switch off music before recording
Do ZMF Bokeh and Bokeh Closed please. Maybe Caldera Closed too.
how does the review change if you add a DAC , like a creative g8 ?
So is FT1 PRO preferred of HD600/ Edition XS/ Sundara? Should I stay to my HD600 and wait or make the step?
This is not a warmer Edition XS, soundstage differences are night and day between the two. You will read this comparison over and over again, because thats what people think, when they see the FR graph, but the XS is spacious where the FT1 Pro is rather intimate...side the side the XS is on another level, especially after EQ
driver size and shape basically but not everyone wants a size 14 slipper against the sides of their face
XS is really not that great lol
Had bought the Edition XS a few weeks before these came out for $240. Had the chance to get the FT1 Pro yesterday for about $160. 🥲 As much as I wanted to still get them just coz of how cheap they are (plus the fact that they have your seal of approval), just couldn't justify another headphone purchase right now especially since my HD 600 are also arriving soon. 😅 I also have the FT1. So i really am set on headphones for *hopefully* a long enough while.
You can buy it still, and sell the one you don't prefer as much.
If you're happy with your current stuff, just forget about new headphones for the most part. Get too many and you start listening to your equipment more than the music.
How compares the Ft1 with the xs ?
@teeteetuu94 sadly, 2nd hand market where I am isn't great. Would lose a ton of value plus would take a long time to sell off as well. I will learn to be content. 😂 And the Edition XS are wonderful to listen to!
@@2old2steak agreed!
I sense these are annoying to reviewers because they are so cheap and still match the preference zone better than much more expensive and much more praised sets.
capper strap link ??

CapraAudio "Sony MDR7506/FiiO FT1 Comfort Strap", $20 USD.
how is it compared to the beyerdynamics 880 edition please ? My usage is home listening and playing piano et composing
Thanks a lot for the help
FT1 Pro or Aune Ar5000 in sound quality?
audeze lcd5 is really great and very worth skipping other else
I want that poster. Link please!
How is the sound stage?
so so
I'd like to point out that the screws that hold earcups are tiny and they can unscrew or even break under the weight of the earcup with bigger drivers on this headband.
FT1 Pro or HD 490 for critical listening and production/mixing? (I need good bass representation)
Do I need to sell my MM-100 and get these instead ? any advice ?
You don't need to do anything. If you enjoy them then that's all that matters. It's about the music after all.
Newb here. I’m looking at the FT1 with the FiiO KA11 Type C DAC/Amp for use with my ipad pro. How much sound leakage is there with the FT1 pro?
-1.5 @ 400 Hz
-0.5 dB @ 600 Hz
v transformative on these for me
as the biggest Sundara fan in the game - the FT-1 Pro definitely sounds more detailed to me - closer to the XS than the Sundara in terms of “resolution”
@reallyoldcob
600kHz? Impressive! 😁
can someone tell me if this is good for gaming aswell? Is it better than hifimen he400se?
Let the haters hate, somebody at FIIO has brains, look at their product line. How many are lousy products ?
Definetly not flat headphones. I want to get a pair of Audezes mm100s
Is resolve using accentum plus?
Never thought that “ bulges” would be any issue in the headphone industry.🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Who is better in sound quality: Mondrop Para, Sivga Anser, Aune Ar5000 or FT1 Pro?
Nit and pick are back.
What strap did you buy for these headphones..?
