One thing I like to do is to smell the pack. Unopened packs should smell like wax or like a box of crayons. While not 100% foolproof, I did “catch” a pack of 1974 Topps baseball that was resealed with glue by smelling the back. P.S. that pack you showed us looked 99.99% legit. Thanks for sharing!

My favorite year just when I started collecting as a kid 1973 and 74 autograph cards sets they ended up lost over the years so ended up buying back all the sets I had 1972-1985 spent a fortune rebuilding my collection but all mint cards in plastic protectors or albums now in the safe hopefully appreciating in value

I would say they were not resealed because how the pack opened cleanly. If someone re-glued them there would be a tear or multiply tears in the wax paper. I would say to you that you got an unsearched pack, it was not unusual for some cards to be reversed in the 1970-1974 topps cards, in fact I opened many that were reversed and sometimes 2 cards would be upside down. Wow!!! What a treat to get taken back to a 1973 wax Topps baseball card opening, thank you sir! I've wanted to add the only card off centering was the Yankees team card, if you look at the lower left vs the lower right it's definitely a cut off slight edge on the left side. However, all the other cards are centered very well: The off centering is Topps fault as I got even 2024 Topps Heritage, a throw back from the 1975 design. Unfortunately 78% of my newer cards are off centered, people can't blame the grading companies because they lose 1 to 3 points right off the top. This cost us hobbist and collectors big time, you would think Topps would get it correct by now but, it's sad because the cost we put into thier cards is lost. They still say they center all of thier cards? It's hogwash, ever wondered why people give up on collecting, considering one of the only few licensed cards are Topps and thier the oldest card makers in the business.

I run an eBay business where I buy old wax paper wrappers and re-assemble wax packs. Trust me, when I re-seal the packs you couldn't tell the difference. My foldings skills are 10/10. I source my gum pieces from topps 87 packs; so far no one has called me out. The gum flavour changed a lot between 1973 and 1987. The 1987 gum is more tangy. Haters gonna hate on me, but I've been making a lot of $cha-ching doing it.
One customer noticed that the corners were rounded on a few cards. I just gave him a refund. Otherwise, no one has complained. Sometimes for fun, I like to throw in doubles of the same card, or I add an extra card. One day I might sneak in a hockey card into a wax re-wrap to see what the customer says.
Sometimes, when I re-wrap with an extra card, it creates a tighter wrap, and looks more convincing.
Enjoy your commons! (and no rookies, hehe.)
And, mine smell even fresher than the original My smell-trick is a secret I won't reveal. But, the wax scent trick is floating on the internet. (All I can say, is that it involves childrens crayons. Any brand will do.)

Great video. Goes w/o saying, but that's the Schmidt rookie card year. Not sure if these were in three series, but if that is the case that 3rd series is tuff since moms & pops usually didn't order late into the baseball season since some didn't sell out their 2nd series & brokers didn't bother ordering late into the year. Keep doing those breaks. Rack box next?

My only concern with the pack was no wax in the fold of the upper left corner. However, you usually need to break 2 folds to get the cards out , plus no tiny tear on the inside middle of the wrapper ( which usually happens if you only unfold one inside corner )....I think it was a legit pack 👍

      @LACollection  4 года назад

Hi Mark, I apologize about the late reply. It's good to remember that there is never a bad time to sell your cards. The sports card market is always good, just sometimes it's better.
I would use the Beckett Almanac for a general idea on what cards are "worth" but unfortunately, cards are worth what people are willing to pay for them. So there are cards with a book-value of $50 that sell for $10 (because its not popular or appreciated) and there are cards with a book value of $75 that sell for $120 (because that card/set/yr is super popular)
The sports card market is many times a major popularity contest along with the sports world. Best thing you can do is check eBay SOLD prices but know that things usually sell higher on eBay than the realistic price (due to competition on eBay) Many times, you will sell a card in-person for about 20-30% less in person or at a show than on eBay (but eBay is still a great source to see how the market is doing at any particular time)
Please let me know if you found the Schmidt RC cards as I am absolutely interested!
Hope this helps give you some guidance. Thank you for watching and commenting.

The NYY team card (even though they weren't very good during that stretch) if graded out nicely could be the best card there. The '73 Davey Johnson was one of my favorites as a kid. This was the beginning of seeing some game action photos on cards in the Topps traditional sets. Previously they were almost exclusively still photo shots.

Just like with cards, with packs, check the corners first...they should look neatly wrapped like a present. No really, take a sealed late 80s Topps pack and try to open it in such a way that you can look through the cards and get them back the way you found them AND put the pack back exactly the way you found it with the corners still looking as neatly wrapped like a present. TOUGH JOB.

why is it 2019 and your just getting around to opening these cards? did your parents purchased the cards in 1973 or did you recently buy them?
oops you struck out No Cey and Schmidt Rookie, no Ryan , No Gibson, No Brock, No Clemente, No Carlton, No Hank Arron , No Rose , No Munson, Palmer, no Gossage, No Mays No Hunter, no Jackson, Bench ect. the best card you have is the Garrett card.
for what it's worth if the graders are in your home town and you can get to there place to get your cards graded that's fine but if you have to send the cards out all you have is commons which are about 2.00 but this is a 2015 Becket so the prices went down.
in 2015 Becket card 482 Rickey Henderson rookie 40.00 near mint , mint 80.00
1993 Derek Jeter Rookie card 98 10.00 near mint, Mint 25.00
    card 615 Schmidt/cey excellent 75.00 near mint 150.00
in the most recent Beckett Joe Adell on the cover
card 482 Rickey Henderson rookie 40.00 near mint, Mint 80,00
    1993 Derek Jeter Rookie card 98 6.00 near mint , Mint 15.00
the new Beckett starts in 1980 your cards have no value there old there nice to look at but I wouldn't worry about the grading my guess is there about 2.00 dollars a card?

Hey Mark, I bought the pack recently. I like breaking vintage wax packs. I tend to like the vintage era of players/cards than the modern era.
Yes, grading is always a challenge and your cards can end up being worth even less after spending the time/money on grading.

to me Baseball cards are worth more than money there beautiful to look at you can always have money but you can't always get that card that you had as a kid. yes you can rebuy a card but you can't get that card back.
the Rickey Henderson I got in a wax pack for like 75. cents I'm certainly holding onto this card forever.
