In Michigan vs Iowa, running 90 yards to make a touchdown saving tackle after missing the first tackle is one of the greatest effort plays you will ever see.
I pointed that out to my dad. At first i thought the punter made the play and i replayed it and noticed that guy flew at least 150 yards on that play. His speed and stamina were incredible.
To get off the deck 5 yards behind the runner, and be able to run him down before he crosses the plane, running through traffic, shows incredible speed and effort. Also shows that those little bits of effort as a blocker matter too. If someone had got in front of 4 or crowded him out a bit more, that's a touchdown.
I did the same thing... had to do a double take when I saw #4 was who tracked him down. Had to get up off the ground and track down a man in full stride. Granted #4 and #7 need coached up on not over running the kick like they did... but still great effort on his part.
I literally saw 2 plays of this game...this was one of them and thought it was the punter who shoved him out. Upon seeing the replay I saw it was the first "gunner" and was gobsmacked as to how damn fast he got back to make the tackle. Impressive.
I was praising the guy for this play last night with my buddies, and then the next play Michigan punched it in and I got crap for what I said lol. If an entire team was made up of these guys, they’d win a championship for sure!
I’m so glad you covered this. I saw that run down live and went back to see he was the first one down the field at the start. He even shoved his own play out of the way half way through his chase down to make the tackle.
What Iowa lacks in pure talent they make up for in hustle and hard work. They do the little things right but are no match for some teams unfortunately. Glad to see you point out the hustle though. Kid deserves the recognition.
Oh, wow! I would have never have caught that. Thanks for pointing it out. Someone said effort like that (the speed surely doesn't hurt) can get you a spot playing on Sundays. I sure hope so, for this kid.
Success is not always guaranteed, but it will never be achieved if you don’t put in the effort. He may have failed at first but he didn’t the second time
@@jayandrusiak so he should have gave up after that? I didn’t see the other ten make the tackle after he failed. You give up all you want. I’ll applaud him for making the tackle even after failing the first time..
I’m glad you highlighted this, I was hoping it would get some attention elsewhere. Very reminiscent of the DK Metcalf rundown a few seasons back. Helluva effort.
Legit saw that highlight and I did a double take once I saw that number 4 that made the tackle was also the same guy who made the first attempt at the returner. College version of the DK Metcalf tackle in my opinion.
Number 4 and Semaj Morgan went to nearby high schools - both with strong football programs - in Oakland County, Michigan. They're a year apart. Had to have played each other before. This looked like a return grudge match.
I watched that game and yes I was hoping for the touchdown but after I saw the replay and realized who made the tackle I was thoroughly impressed with that effort. Gotta give credit where it’s due.
If he can keep that level of commitment up for the next three seasons, he will end up playing on Sundays. You can't teach _HEART._ You can teach position skills. With that much dedication will find a spot on most teams. Guys have made good careers on special teams only.
Gotta brake down and get in position and in control to make the tackle to begin with, would have saved numerous yards, but not showing quit and running him down like that is impressive no doubt.
I knew you were going to make a video about this when I saw it live!! My hawks did as bad as expected but at least I can appreciate our special teams!!
Michigan is now the top ranked team and your Hawks shut them down defensively. Now, if your team can find a good offensive coordinator, you can be very good.
@@EliMoran-w8h If they had held Michigan to 3 points, it would have been a great save. No team wants a big punt return by the other team but it doesn't mean you can't appreciate the hustle by #4. He didn't give up.
The other aspect of that play occurred after the game, when Coach Harbaugh interrupted the post-game interview between his quarterback and the sideline reporter babe, to ensure that young, Freshman runner, Morgan, got his five-minutes of fame on National TV. Class act!
Morgan totally shoulda scored on that, but great job on number 4. Helluva play. Reminds of DK Metcalf a few years ago chasing down a Russell Wilson pick.
At first, I thought that was the punter since he would have been behind the play and in position. After checking a number of replays I realize it was the guy that overshot and was laying on the 3 yard line, the fastest man down the field at that point. He gets up and once again, he's the fastest man. So he sprinted 53 yards and got up and sprinted, through traffic, about 90 yards, well add on 20 more laterally as the prey had cut to the sidelines, for a grand total of about four 40 yard dashes. Skip combine, go directly to late round draft as special teams player with interesting upside. 40 yard dash time? How about a 160 yard full sprint?
He missed the tackle and he took it personally. 😂 Since 90% of football players miss tackles anyway, it’s good to see someone that will get right back up and try again. 😅
Semaj Morgan is one of the fastest guys on the M team and it was evident that he slowed down for some reason. During an interview Semaj quietly commented that he had a groin injury that was bothering him at the end of the run, which is why he slowed down (he wasn't making excuses but the interviewer was asking pointed questions about the slowdown and he responded). Semaj seems like a very nice and polite young man, so it did not seem like he was making excuses - just a short and quiet comment from him. Not to take anything away from the pursuit guy #4, he earned everybody's respect during that game and he is obviously a speedy and well disciplined player. Nicely done #4! Wisconsin is well coached and always brings it on. Too bad no offense. I don't think Cade would have made any difference.
hes a freshman as well. showing absolute resolve can get you places. I remember Ezekiel Elliot on the Kickoff coverage team in his red shirt year going down an blasting a returner, then coming out the next year, going nuts, winning a national championship
While watching this live, I thought for sure this guy was the punter. I even yelled out loud "Run! You can't get tackled by the punter!" and I'll be damned, it wasn't the punter. He's just that damn fast. This guy has got some legs and motivation that teams need.
As you can visually see my colors align with the Maize & Blue but I didn't even realize while watching that game that the guy who initially missed the tackle was the one who ended up making the tackle. House was full and guess you could say that I was paying attention to the freshman running it back for 6. Not a good play because it took time off of the clock when Michigan needed a few more plays to score. Iowa could have used the extra time at the end of the half. I would have let him score the TD.
When I was a kid, 19 years of age. I used to be very fast. My friends and I were playing a flag football game. The pass was to me, I fell and it was intercepted by a friend that was already running towards his goal. I got up, passed everyone and the ran up next to him, slowed down and said "Hi Chuck" and kept running. He stopped and laughed at how pointless it was to keep running. We all laughed and it was a fun time.
Good play. I prefer Jordan Whittington vs TCU. Ewers throws pick, Whittington goes to ground missed tackle, gets up, hussles down and catches up, and forces fumble. First Down Texas. Hook em.
As a Michigan alum (Go Blue) I'm pissed this wasn't like the ESPN play of the week. Entringer was on his belly facing the goal post, 7-8 yards away when Morgan started sprinting in the opposite direction. UN freaking believable. I'm a head coach, this guy gets serious NIL $ to come on over. Sad that all that insane athleticism was wasted on that embarrassing offensive team performance.
Wow , not enough people talking about this play hmmmmm. I guess that makes YOU an elite analyst, since you are talking about it. No the big play was the 87 yard return allowed because your guy missed the initial tackle.
You're right That was petty cool (the 1st tackler down there - and the one that ran all the way back chasing him down) Very cool (Yes, unnoticed - yeah, til now) 😂
All of the comments about how he missed the initial tackle prove that most fans never played the game. Running at full speed with the kick creates a situation where maneuverability is limited. However, you do have the advantage of herding the returner into your teammates if they are doing their jobs. Once in a while you get lucky and the returner bobbles the ball or just has a brain fart which lets you take them down squarely despite your momentum. That is not typical though and the first guy down the field missing a tackle is the most likely outcome assuming the returner doesn't call for a fair catch. What #45 did was to be the first one to the returner, make an attempt to tackle, fall to the ground, get up and stay with the play until he caught up with the returner and saved a TD. While uneducated fans are cheering for a great runback, any decent coach would love #45s effort and notice his speed and grit.
