  • This video reviews what you need to know about feeding hatchling or newly born chameleons. I'll go over the three easiest feeder insects to obtain and culture yourself.
    I will discuss planning for the egg(s) to hatch and the situation where you are surprised by babies. This video is for anyone that wants to be prepared with all the food they need on hand for when their chameleon egg hatches!

    Have you tried feeding pea aphids (Acyrthosiphon pisum)? I miserably failed to get a producing population going (got exactly ONE aphid lol) but I would imagine once you have an established population and are growing your own pea sprouts it could be a great feeder insect. When I buy common houseflies I put them in the fridge once they start producing so they don't emerge all at the same time. A cup then lasts for a few weeks instead of a couple days before they all die :)

      I love feeding aphids! But I have not been very good at farming them. I haven’t tried hard though. But I think I would like to!

      It all depends on your conditions. Mine last a week or two at full production.

    Hi Bill, are you dusting these feeders when they are this small?

    • @ChameleonAcademy
      @ChameleonAcademy  2 года назад +2

      I wait about two weeks before I start with calcium dusting and about two months before I start using a multivitamin. But I have seen success in many strategies so what I do is just what is working for me, not the “one true way”.

      We have this problem with many species. I can only assume we are not giving them some signal they need.

      The first thing to do is go straight to the breeder and get personalized support from them as that is their job and responsibility. They need to be hand holding you through the difficulty in raising a baby chameleon. Beyond that, you would need to go through a husbandry review to see what is going on. Here is a link that has a Panther Chameleon Care Guide. Look through it and figure out what ar the differences betweent he care parameters and what you have set up and that will narrow down the investigation. chameleonacademy.com/panther-chameleon-care/

    I have seen people coat their food with vitamins. Do you recommend that right out of hatching? I am looking to get smaller crickets to feed the baby chameleon when it hatches and goes in it's cage. Do you have any recommend any nutrients / vitamins to go with the food?

      I usually wait a month or so before I start supplementing. I like to start with just calcium.

      Do not worry about how many colors a chameleon can change to. Worry about whether you can provide a proper environment to keep them healthy. Drop the color question. I'll answer questions about husbandry.

    How many colors can a panther chameleon change into

    • @ChameleonAcademy
      @ChameleonAcademy  2 года назад

      There are so many locales that show different colors that it is difficult to answer this question! But each locale has a certain color palette. They are not able to turn any color.

    • @ChameleonAcademy
      @ChameleonAcademy  2 года назад

      No. You get brown and white as a baby. Obviously this is a burning question for you. Perhaps I can better answer this question by asking what the answer means to you. If you just want to know a number then let’s go with 5.
