I have a young new female veiled chameleon and your videos have helped me tremendously. Pet stores really do NOT know anything about these reptiles and I’m so thankful for all your informational videos!!!
This video helped SO much my male chameleon turned out to be a female! I noticed her digging and did some research and found your video and she now is all set up and is currently digging in her new tub at the back of her tank! I will be keeping a close eye on her and am so much better prepared after this video so thank you!!!
Thank you so much for making this video , it was so helpful. My Chameleon laid her first clutch over the last week, Tuesday-Saturday. She laid 39 eggs that we found, I think we got them all. I was so nervous but she did great and now we know what we need to adjust. Definitely need to feed less and we might try adjusting her temp up a little bit!

My enclosure isn’t large enough for her plant and a laying bin, my question is should I just remove her plant (which is very full with lots of stems/leaves) & just put the laying bin inside her enclosure? I will put a stick down in there for her… I have her in a quiet room so she won’t be disturbed… I am not sure if she’s got eggs yet but I’m trying to make sure I am prepared! Your videos have helped me tremendously!! I cannot tell you how much I’ve learned from you, THANKS SO MUCH!!! 💕
Sounds like she could benefit from a larger enclosure so that she has room for her laying bin and having lots of plant coverage and sticks to climb on. Her laying bin doesn't have to be very big, a shoe box sized bin would work just fine. Thank You this video helped so much! I just got a female chame. Full knowing it was female. She layed her first clutch of eggs just about two months ago, she is already getting fat again, plus she feels very bumpy. Her colors haven't turned dark yet, but when she does shift they are in the gravid pattern and colors. She lightens up though. So I do not think she is ready to lay. Great, very helpful video. Thank you! My chameleon is 4 months old. When should I be prepered for her laying eggs? When is she going to be ready for eggs?
They can lay as early as 6 months old, but most chameleons are around a year old when they lay their first clutch. She will turn gravid colors when she is close to laying.

This was a wonderful and informative video! I don't know if my little veiled is growing eggs or if she's just chubby. I think she's almost a year old. I built an egg bin for her months ago
I have a female panther named Rou Rou She's just 7 months old. Long story short. I adopted her at a very young age with MBD. She's over that but still has walking issues. Took her to vet because she was dropping from branches and didn't know why. Found out she was developing eggs. Took x-rays and saw them they were just the yolks yet. Vet gave me liquid calcium to make her stronger and help with shell formation. She's due to lay in mid Oct. She's my little sweet pea and doing everything in my power to make it easier on her. I have a big window box with a Star Jasmine in it she loves to climb. Lay bin is opposite side with sand/topsoil mix. my vet calls to check on her once a week. I will keep you all posted. =)
No because the bin/box needs to be big enough for her to be able to dig down and lay her eggs. Should be at least 6” deep. You may consider getting her a bigger enclosure. The cage size recommendation for a chameleon is 24”x24”x48”.
question... I just got my chameleon 3 days ago. store said she was a female, and maybe 6m old, they weren't sure as they only had her in the store for a few weeks... just noticed today she was digging a hole, without knowing what she was doing. I have a bioactive setup, that has about 6-8" of substrate. Thing is I may of startled her, as she stopped digging.. i being a Newby and hadn't researched egg laying.. nievely covered the hole up... now watching ur video after the fact.. what should I be doing now?
How long does the egg laying process typically take? I was told my veiled chameleon was a male but she's just started her first egg laying cycle and I'm unprepared for this, she's currently in the hole she dug and she's been in there for around 24hrs so far, is this normal? I'm trying to read and watch as much as I can to educate myself about this process but I can't seem to find any information about how long this process takes and im concerned for her. Thanks.
@@NeptunetheChameleon well the soil has little sticks and twigs in it. Plus littler plants growing. I just got her and the people we got her from said she was a little over a year old and they only had her for four months. She's been a very light color for a couple day and I also noticed she was getting bigger before that light color came in consistently. Do you just put her in a bin with fine soil to see if she starts digging? I guess idk how that process works and how long it takes.
My chameleon Kona is around the age where she is gonna lay eggs soon and I want to know if Repti-soil is an ok soil for her? And does the box have to to 10-12 inches wide and 12 inches deep or can it be a bit smaller like 10 inches wide and 10 inches deep?

Hello. My veiled chameleon looks 4ish months old. How early will they become gravid. We have done research since a week before we got her (3weeks) and we have watched a lot of your videos and she’s just not becoming more round. Can they be gravid without the colors or should we just wait to see the brown spots. She’s never been down to her laybin and I’m a little nervous. She slept low yesterday and has several ways to get down there but hasn’t gone yet. She’s still tiny though.
They can lay as early as 6 months old, but with proper care it is usually around 1-1.5 years before they will lay eggs. And yes they will always show gravid colors -- hope that helps!
@@NeptunetheChameleon thanks for the information and thank you so much for actually replying. I have commented on several videos but have never gotten a response from the video creator.
Depends what size of enclosure you have, and if you own a solarmeter. If you have a 48" tall or smaller enclosure then I would recommend a 5.0. 10.0s typically put out too much UVB for a chameleon and the only way to make sure your UVI levels are safe is with a solarmeter. I would suggest watching my video on UVB: ruclips.net/video/5RVjgaLsWn8/видео.html and checking out the chart in this link that shows the different UVI levels for different bulbs: chameleonacademy.com/chameleon-cage-set-up-replicating-the-sun/
What do you do if your chameleon has laid her eggs but she keeps going back down to her bin?? It’s been over 24 hours, she did come up to feed & hydrate & seems to be extremely skinny now & “finished” but when we go to get the bin out to get the eggs, she’s in the bin again!!?? Please help! Tysm!
I was wonder what your thoughts are on bee pollen I use it a few times a week I haven’t heard a specific schedule on how to give bee pollen I’ve heard every day or people not mentioning it at all?
If you have a bioactive bottom that is 6 inches deep do you have to take out the eggs or can you just leave them and let them biodegrade with the help of the isopods and springtails?
Hello again. The wife noted something which I had'nt thought of TBH and that is - The egg laying bin (15" tall flower pot which is !0" wide) will be filled with wet (ish) sand for her but we also have a automatic misting system for both Arwen's and Ziggy's vivarium but we need to come up with a way that won't have the sand becoming saturated with water as the mister is tied into both enclosures and goes off x3 daily. Any ideas from yourself or any of your subscribers would be appreciated as this is a real head scratcher just now.
As mentioned at 12:41 you can drill holes in the bottom to help with drainage. Also there is such a thing of a laying bin that is too big. If it’s too big than she will be exerting more effort than what is needed. Hope this helps!!
Thanks! The way Arwen's growing I think she'll need a bigger vivarium (got one waiting in the wings for her) sooner rather than later. I'll need to watch this one again - never thought of drilling the holes TBH. Suprised the missus did'nt spot that one.
Will a female with an infertile clutch still display gravid colors? My girl dug around a bit in her lay bin but hasn't laid and when she's sleeping her colors look receptive, During the day she just shows unhappy darker green colors. I can see visible lumps, and her abdomen is engorged, I am playing a waiting game right now when she will dig in her lay bin again and lay the eggs or when I should decide to take her to a vet. She is still eating as normal and her eyes are not sunk in at all. Her last urate was 75% white and had a normal bowel movement. What's more confusing is she has laid two random eggs a few days apart on top of her lay bin. I can tell she still has more to go.
Yes she’ll still display gravid colors. If she’s starting to drop eggs but hasn’t buried the rest of them, I’d seriously consider taking her to the vet soon. She may lay them on her own but she also may need some help.
how common is the gender mix up from breeders because Samson is already showing peachy/pink colors (he's 4 months btw) is this common in young chams? thx for any help!
literally just found out today that my veiled is female lol (i got her a few weeks ago). i was watching them and they suddenly went into the gravid colors, i was concerned and looked it up. hoping i caught it in time !!
How do you know if the eggs have baby inside or if they don't? Is there a way or- something way to tell if there's some thinging hiding inside the little shell?
I got a female veiled last weekend so making sure I learn everything I can before this happens. I have a bioactive setup with the biodude substrate for chameleons. Do I need to still give a laying bin or not? I've heard conflicting answers. The substrate is at least 10 inches deep and has a ficus tree and several other plants planted in it.
That really depends on the texture of your substrate and what your female prefers. Some are fine with substrate and others require a bin. I’d have a bin handy and pay super close attention to any signs that she might need to use a bin.
Hi, I set up a “pot”, aka container like yours with organic soil but she doesn’t get inside of it. My Home Depot did not have the sand you suggested. She’s laid 3 eggs so far. She seems to be staying on the floor. I have branches on top of her bin but I haven’t seen her get inside I also wrapped the cage with construction / packaging paper and poked a few holes to peek. What can I do?
I know this is off topic from the video but I have a 5 month old Ambilobe and recently bought 500 Dubia roaches (small- medium) and he doesn’t seem the least interested in them. He doesn’t think twice when it comes to super worms and crickets. I’ve tried free ranging, tongs, cup feeding yet I get the same results (made sure to put a good amount in the cup so they’re always moving.) Any advice on how to get my little guy to eat his more nutritious alternative?
@@NeptunetheChameleon It only took a day of playing the “bad parent” but he finally ate his first dubia! He seems more interested in the newly mottled white ones but hey it worked! Awesome channel btw you got yourself a new subscriber 😎
Hi there! I have a male juvenile panther chameleon. I’ve had him for 3 weeks and he’s doing amazing! It’s my first time having a chameleon but I really think I’m doing a good job. The reason why I am contacting you is because Petco near me has a female panther chameleon that is over 1 year old. I’m almost positive that she is ready to lay eggs and they have her on sale for 50% off because no one wants her. I don’t think that I would know what to do it I got her during this time of her life, but I do know that she will die soon if she doesn’t get to lay her eggs. Would you be able to do anything about this to help me? I just feel so bad for her but I’d need help if I tried to help her. I really just don’t have the space. But I don’t want her to die. And my parents won’t let me get her knowing that she would need to see a vet ASAP.
Hi. I have a 6 month old female veiled Cham. Is she considered an adult in regards to her feeding? I ask because of your recommendation regarding feeding less to get smaller clutches. Thank you
Hey! so I have an outside inclosure for my chameloens. 2 of the females have dug holes and laid eggs. I think that the third one may be egg bound, but we did see her In a holes yesterday but she still looks big today so I don't believe that she laid eggs. Would it be possible for a chameleon to become egg bound with unlimited dirt at the bottom of their whole cage? Maybe she kept trying to dig in spots that where two hard?
Hi! Got a question.. Do you only give you chameleon Calcium powder? Cause you said don't feed with vitamin D3? So should I only feed crickets with calcium? Or did you mean like just don't feed D3 when they lay eggs but usually use vitamins?
I meant to not exclusively use calcium with D3. Calcium without D3 should be used daily and calcium with D3 and a multivitamin should be used 2x/month. Here is my video about supplements: ruclips.net/video/nLONCW9tSPA/видео.html

She laid 31 infertile eggs
Consider yourself VERY lucky she laid her eggs. She could have very easily gotten egg bound by not having a proper laying bin. So, I would recommend you do a few things moving forward:
1. Throw away the eggs
2. Get a laying bin set up and always leave it inside her enclosure
3. Do not leave your chameleon unattended outside of their enclosure and don’t fall asleep while they are outside of their cage 😅

Genuinely surpsied you don't have more subs. Keep it up. 👍
Thank you. I appreciate that!
is there a specific color for when they want to lay eggs
Yes! Check out the section at 5:19 :)
Why doesn't a t8 uvb count?
They are older tech and don't penetrate deep enough into a chameleon enclosure for them to properly absorb the UVB.
Do eggs have to go into a incubator
Depends if they're fertile and what species they are. I would suggest finding a breeder mentor if that's something you're interested in doing :)

Play sand or sand in general can cause eye probs, i would recommend a clean organic soil without any kind of additives.
Is sakrete play sand okay to use.?
I'm not familiar with that brand.
I would get a laying bin set up for her ASAP.
At what point do you know she’s egg bound? I’ve my first in the laying bin but not doing anything. She seems exhausted
When they’re unable to climb/dig and their bodies are starting to shut down. I’d take her to a vet ASAP if you’re concerned.
Thanks.
I talk about that at 14:40! Good luck with your little lady. Fingers crossed she lays her eggs 🤗
Hey i would like a video of temperature and how u cared for eggs how u keeped Moisey
I don’t have any experience breeding chameleons or incubating eggs.
Will she go in and out of sand before she actually lays eggs
She certainly can! They will sometimes dig test holes.
Why don’t compact bulbs count?
ruclips.net/video/5RVjgaLsWn8/видео.html
If the chameleons never mated but still layed a batch will the eggs hatch should i incubate?
They would be infertile eggs and there would be no need to incubate.
Is it normal for chameleons to go back and revisit the eggs they just buried?
Hmm not usually. Maybe they have more eggs to lay.
Is it possible for 1 month old chameleons to lay eggs? Mine is kinda acting like it but it still eats
No it is not. The earliest they would start laying is at 6 months old.
I have a question if the floor is dirt do I still need a pot for her to lay eggs
You'd need to provide her with at least 6" of proper substrate.
@@NeptunetheChameleon thank you
I have a bio bag in the bottom of the cage with soil in it. Would she be able to lay them in there?
Possibly! Needs to be at least 6” deep and the right consistency.
I would not use Repti-soil. I would use washed play sand instead. 10"x10" would be okay.
@@NeptunetheChameleon thank you! I’ll go get some sand then

Can I use like any kind of washed play sand? Or does it have to be the one you showed
Any kind of washed play sand will work!
Great video as always learnt so much from your channel I have a quick question hope you don’t mind My chameleon will only take crickets is this something to be worried about .
I would try to add in other types of bugs. The more variety, the better. Here are my videos about how to get your cham to eat other bugs: ruclips.net/video/waCeIkQE1hw/видео.html & what bugs to feed to a chameleon: ruclips.net/video/9BAs2Os1XN8/видео.html
@@NeptunetheChameleon thanks so much
Should you change the substrate after your female lays?
That would be a good idea to do if the bin needs to be refilled or more/less water added.
@@NeptunetheChameleon thanks for the information and thank you so much for actually replying. I have commented on several videos but have never gotten a response from the video creator.
what about a T5 10.0 linear light??? love your videos!
Tysm!
She might still have more eggs to lay so I would leave the bin in there for a couple more days.
I was wonder what your thoughts are on bee pollen I use it a few times a week I haven’t heard a specific schedule on how to give bee pollen I’ve heard every day or people not mentioning it at all?
I use bee pollen for my gutload and sprinkle it on top of my bugs here and there. I don't have a set bee pollen supplement schedule.
If you have a bioactive bottom that is 6 inches deep do you have to take out the eggs or can you just leave them and let them biodegrade with the help of the isopods and springtails?
I would still take out the eggs so that you can count and keep track of how many eggs she’s laying so you can make adjustments to her care as needed.
Do we have Chameleon that gives birth instead of laying eggs?
Jackson's chameleons are the most commonly kept species that gives live birth.
I have a veiled chameleon in a mesh cage with zoomed eco fiber on the bottom and shes digging a egg whole is that enough?
I'd recommend adding in a laying bin.
@@NeptunetheChameleon thank you for your swift response and for answering my questions
how common is the gender mix up from breeders because Samson is already showing peachy/pink colors (he's 4 months btw) is this common in young chams? thx for any help!
Unfortunately, very common. Especially with baby panther chameleons. It's hard for me to say without seeing a picture of them.
literally just found out today that my veiled is female lol (i got her a few weeks ago). i was watching them and they suddenly went into the gravid colors, i was concerned and looked it up. hoping i caught it in time !!
Fingers crossed!
How do you know if the eggs have baby inside or if they don't? Is there a way or- something way to tell if there's some thinging hiding inside the little shell?
Usually if they've been with a male they're fertile. If they haven't, then they are infertile.
@@NeptunetheChameleon thank you!
How old do they have to be before they start to lay eggs
As mentioned in the video, usually around 6-8 months old but it can be earlier or later than that.
@@NeptunetheChameleon OK thank you so much. She's my first female. My last one was a Jackson's so learning new stuff every day.
Hello I wanted to know about what the colors of a panther chameleon mean for example if they are stressed what color would they be?
Panthers usually get darker in color when they are stressed.
Was she able to lay all of her eggs?
I know this is off topic from the video but I have a 5 month old Ambilobe and recently bought 500 Dubia roaches (small- medium) and he doesn’t seem the least interested in them. He doesn’t think twice when it comes to super worms and crickets. I’ve tried free ranging, tongs, cup feeding yet I get the same results (made sure to put a good amount in the cup so they’re always moving.) Any advice on how to get my little guy to eat his more nutritious alternative?
Yes!! I made a video about this: ruclips.net/video/waCeIkQE1hw/видео.html
@@NeptunetheChameleon It only took a day of playing the “bad parent” but he finally ate his first dubia! He seems more interested in the newly mottled white ones but hey it worked! Awesome channel btw you got yourself a new subscriber 😎
What if I have a laying bin set up, but she does not use it and just starts digging in the ground cover ( mine is about 3” deep)
Some chameleons will choose to lay somewhere besides their laying bin. Planted pots, bioactive substrate, etc.
Can u tell me where I can get a good plant for my chameleon
Home Depot and Lowe's are where I get mine. Here is my video about that: ruclips.net/video/1eJ9jKXCGoE/видео.html
Why would a veiled chameleon bleed from rear?
I'm not sure. If it was me, I would call a reptile vet with chameleon experience.
Thank you
Excellent question. I would start to cut back on her food once she is 8 months old.
Thank you so much! ❤️
Hey! so I have an outside inclosure for my chameloens.
It’s certainly possible if the conditions aren’t correct or she’s not strong enough to lay them.
