I bought the foot valve this morning and when I got a chance this afternoon I went to RUclips to find a how-to video. Luckily I found your video before I changed it. I only checked the relays on the drives and ran out of energy but tomorrow morning I’m going to go find out if the front relay is bad. I would have been mad as hell if I changed the foot valve only to find out it wasn’t the problem. Thank you very much for the video.
Congratulations Sir, excellent video, I am Truck's diesel mechanic and he just showed me something. It doesn't bother mechanics to tell us their ideas or knowledge But they are on top of us without letting us work. Thank you very much for your video and your excellent explanation. God bless you. From Dallas Texas to the order.
Thank you. I'm a diesel mechanic and have seen this problem before. You did a great job in presenting and explaining the problem and steps it takes to diagnose the issue.
Thank you sir. Another diesel tech here down in Florida. Abs and brake diagnostics always gave me problems. I saved your video so I can come back to it if needed. 🍻
New to air breaks and you hit the nail square on the head . The answer to bleed back I found was a break can diaphragm that had gone bad causing the air to back track thru the valves to foot valve and leaking thru a line stabbed thru firewall. Parking break set or not it leaked plugging it off caused parking breaks to set if they were released. However the truck is also having an air dryer issue. Thanks for posting and helping out all the others with air break issues. Break on!!!
Can this cause an accident how dangerous is this because i think I have the same issue when push air brake it just shoots out air sound like left drive tire, the pedal, and some times from actually interior supply button
Knowledge is always good to know, I am also car mechanically inclined and I’ve been in the trucking industry for about 30 years now, I have my very own computer diagnostic equipment and I’m able to fix a flat to change the stem valve, etc., but I also highly appreciate you taking the time most people have a little crappy video about maybe five or 10 minutes 15 or quickly but I’ll tell you my brother you took your time to read and comprehend and I thank you for passing that knowledge on because I am at Owner operator I don’t expensive things could get out here I want to thank you, Robert from Fort Myers Florida👋👌👍✌️
Great video, I have a severe pressure loss when i press on my foot break when my trailer was attached. Changed the foot pedal valve and that seemed to work but now the leak is back again after attaching a trailer with a heavy load. My pressure gauage on the dash loses air immediately which is not safe at all. I can hear the air coming out as im pressing on foot brake. So after watching your video I hope i can check those delivery lines and see if one of the relays is bad. That was my next process to consider after researching and seeing if my relay valve was bad in the back. But maybe it is the same relay that you had underneath is the issue. I have an international as well so thank you for the video and taking the time to share this. Best of luck and keep rollin!!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I have the same Issue on a 88 frieghtliner dump truck. We already replaced the foot brake valve but thankfully we do our own work in house so we're not out a ton for labor. Hopefully this helps me to diagnose it quickly.
That was a good video my man I’ve been driving for 13 years and I’m now studying and going to school to be a heavy duty diesel mechanic. I just got to this part of my lesson and wanted to know what it was and thank you for explaining all that.

Thank you driver I'm having the same issue on my Volvo and couldn't find a single video or anything on Google about this issue... I've had the foot valve replaced twice money wasted 🤦🏾♂️ because that's what the shop diagnosed now I know what to check thanks to you
I hope this helps solve your issue. These parts ain't cheap and these shops need to train techs on proper diagnosis procedures so we aren't wasting time and money. Let me know how it turns out. 🤞
Very informative video. When you come to these types of mechanical diagnostics, normally, they are very costly, because as you said it on the video, those part changers that all they do is making you expend money on things you don't need. I have an issue right now, with my Peterbilt, and it might be a great video to start with. When I hit the brake on very cold weather, my brakes stay stuck down. and when I stop and delete the code by turning the key towards the opposite side, brake gets release. How I know it gets stuck down, because by troubleshooting, I turned all the truck lights off, and the stop light stays on both, trailer and truck. Or is either a brake release valve sending air back to the brake pedal valve, or the brake pedal valve is having a leak somewhere, that when it gets so cold it become icy. Since on hotter weather, above 32 degrees, brake system works perfectly fine.
Thank you for this video, i have same truck with same issue and it was easy to repair because of your video. God bless you and have plenty of safe miles.
Glad it helped. Unfortunately very few of these technicians today don't diagnose. They just throw parts at the problem until they "find" the problem. Good luck and stay safe.
Well done !, you did a perfect video. I know , my 30th year in Air brakes. You got it spot on m8. If it was not the relay it could be your trailer control doing the same. Once again well done

Hey Brock, glad I found your video. I currently having I guess the same issue with my brakes. Also my driver side steer seems like it's grabbing harder than the rest. Trying to diagnose what it could be and I stumbled onto this video. Not sure if it's my problem...but at least it gives me some ideas about how these systems work. Thanks again!
This video is vary helpful we need more videos on things like this I'm dealing with a air brake issue and this helped thank you . Be safe out there driver
OMG this is an amazing video to learn from because my school bus is doing the EXACT same thing! This video perfectly describes and explains what my own problem is and exactly where I need to focus my attention to fix it. My damn brake relays. I wouldn't have thought of that either because I'm new to heavy duty trucks and air brake systems too. My school bus is a 1997 International 3800 full size, dog-nose school bus with the DT466E engine, AT545 transmission, and Blue Bird body. Now what I'll do is find the relay(s) that are toast, pull them, put them on my work bench and start taking them apart, going through them and inspecting them. It's possible that all they need is to be cleaned in some special way or lubricated or something simple. But at least I'll see where they failed inside and why they failed. I'll try to make a video on that too so others know. Thanks again for your great video Brock!!!
Same problem on 2019 peterbilt 579, did what u said and heard brakes ingage air was back feeding also when i checked that line. But my break lights are also staying on when i tap them. Have to turn truck off to make them go off
Great video! Probably saved me a ton of money. My problem is slightly different. Air is leaking from that valve and my brakes are setting while driving. Now I believe I can properly troubleshoot the problem. Thank you for the video!!!
I am dealing with same problem, well not exactly.. my foot brake valve is leaking from the firewall which I and my mechanics determined by spraying it. Like you said that thing is like 600+ in dealer, and they dont even have it now. They gave me the part number and truck parts store ordered it for 270... looks kind of messy to get to it, i got 2015 international and it sure looks more difficult to get to than 2019.
Really good to hear. There has been nothing but good responses on this video and I am really glad it has helped so many. Good luck to you and stay safe.
Thank you. My truck only when I’m hooked with trailer when I apply food break hearing leaks from the dashboard. When break completely or push break all the way stop leaking only when slowly breaking and only when I have trailer, bobtailing no problem!

I am having an issue which i think its the same thing my cab and tractor air bags goes completely flat within 30min i spray soap and water and I can’t seem to find any leak i will check those line and follow your method and see what happens
I have a question when checking the valves to see if there's air coming back to them. Do you have the truck running with the brakes release or in what set up dl you have your truck in to to check those valves. Thanks for your video a lot of good info. Really appreciated
So was it the atr-6 traction control relay valve mine only leaks when im hooked to a trailer how does that change it if any, No loss when im bobtailing.
Hey brock nice explanation! And thank you! I have a question hope you will have time to give me an idea what to do. I have an old FLD 1991 and I just bought it and did my brakes, front and rears and after I replaced drums and shoes and adjusted them I found out that I feel my brake pedal low, I ordered yesterday the brake pedal valve, what do you think before I start changing parts that could be my issue? Thanks
@@JAYT76501 yes all brakes were working when pedal was pressed but yesterday I changed the valve and with the new one now I got the front differential is locked, could be the “new”(remanufactured) valve from dealer is not good? All the hoses were attached the same way as they were before.
When I come to a stop, like a red light or stop sign, my truck leaks air (secondary tank air pressure is lower than primary tank) and if I don’t pop my brakes, it’ll dump air & low air pressure warnings will sound. Plz help
@@kendrichand not sure but have you checked your glad hand connection? Other than that not sure why it only occurs when hooked to trailer unless you always have same trailer and it's the problem. Maybe the dash valve???
I have an International Prosleeper. The brakes are not stopping the truck well. The truck stops after 3-4 seconds even i press the brake pedal so hard. I just replaced all the brakes and drums but still same issue. What could cause this?? Is it bad brake foot valve??
Trying to understand- so can you set the parking brake but then this problem will pop the button back out causing the truck to roll? Sorry for the simplistic question, I’m researching all of this and it’s a lot to take in. I’m specifically trying to figure out how a Volvo with the parking brakes engaged would still roll in error. Thank you.
I am guessing the brakes are working correctly when driving. Normally if the brake valves pop out the brakes should be fully engaged. Shot in the dark here but are the brakes adjusted properly? Maybe the brake valve assembly in the dash is bad? Sorry not being of much help on this one.
never found that out. brake pedal was as hard as a rock. never left the parking lot. I only moved it to the shop so really wasn't paying attention if brakes were dragging.
I'm wondering I've got the same problem with air leaking out of the brake pedal valve . But I can't reach the brake pedal valve , is it possible take of the delivery line on the remote it's self to check if it's leaking air or not
If you can follow the airline to the relay valve and remove it there you should feel air coming out of the relay if that is the issue. Hope this helps.

@@derrickwimbush4665 I don't have that number anymore. The relay I ordered through the ta that installed it.
@JAYT76501 thank you im Going to let my mechanic do it. Thank u
I am having an issue which i think its the same thing my cab and tractor air bags goes completely flat within 30min i spray soap and water and I can’t seem to find any leak i will check those line and follow your method and see what happens
I believe there is a check valve in the airbag system to keep air from back bleeding. I would look at that as well.
Ok i will definitely look into that i will keep you posted with my discoveries
@@StefanRas please do
Wow thank you very much i did learn alot
I have a question when checking the valves to see if there's air coming back to them. Do you have the truck running with the brakes release or in what set up dl you have your truck in to to check those valves. Thanks for your video a lot of good info. Really appreciated
Truck aired up not running and brakes set.
So was it the atr-6 traction control relay valve mine only leaks when im hooked to a trailer how does that change it if any, No loss when im bobtailing.
Relay valve for the front brakes. Mounted on frame right under the driver side floor board.
Thank you for sharing sir! Will they take that part back?
Hey brock nice explanation! And thank you!
I have a question hope you will have time to give me an idea what to do.
I have an old FLD 1991 and I just bought it and did my brakes, front and rears and after I replaced drums and shoes and adjusted them I found out that I feel my brake pedal low, I ordered yesterday the brake pedal valve, what do you think before I start changing parts that could be my issue?
Thanks
Any other symptoms. I.e.excessive air loss, all brakes engaging when pedal is pushed.
@@JAYT76501 yes all brakes were working when pedal was pressed but yesterday I changed the valve and with the new one now I got the front differential is locked, could be the “new”(remanufactured) valve from dealer is not good? All the hoses were attached the same way as they were before.
@@ibayter unfortunately not unheard-of getting a bad part.
Same issued I took the green light out and I have air like u say I orden the back relay valve thanks buddy
Let me know how it turns out after you get the new relay.
Awesome, very Informative.
Thank you
Thank you brother
When I come to a stop, like a red light or stop sign, my truck leaks air (secondary tank air pressure is lower than primary tank) and if I don’t pop my brakes, it’ll dump air & low air pressure warnings will sound. Plz help
Does it happen bobtail? or with a trailer?
@@JAYT76501 same problem only does it when i am hooked to trailer, ive got 2015 prostar
@@kendrichand not sure but have you checked your glad hand connection? Other than that not sure why it only occurs when hooked to trailer unless you always have same trailer and it's the problem. Maybe the dash valve???
@@JAYT76501 tested on second trailer did the same problem foot valve leak out exhaust port.
@@kendrichand it sounds like a relay but with it happening on two different trailers is odd.
I have an International Prosleeper. The brakes are not stopping the truck well. The truck stops after 3-4 seconds even i press the brake pedal so hard. I just replaced all the brakes and drums but still same issue. What could cause this?? Is it bad brake foot valve??
If the pedal seems like it's hard it could be a brake relay valve.
Sorry not being of much help on this one.
thx for documenting this
Great information thanks
This was great information . Thank You
Good info. Wish me luck, it's time to go pull some airlines
Good luck

I have the same issue on my 2920 international, but my brakes are being applied while driving, did you have this problem as well??
never found that out. brake pedal was as hard as a rock. never left the parking lot. I only moved it to the shop so really wasn't paying attention if brakes were dragging.
@@JAYT76501 thank you
I'm wondering I've got the same problem with air leaking out of the brake pedal valve . But I can't reach the brake pedal valve , is it possible take of the delivery line on the remote it's self to check if it's leaking air or not
This is of a 99 T-800 pretty tough to get to that brake pedal valve
If you can follow the airline to the relay valve and remove it there you should feel air coming out of the relay if that is the issue. Hope this helps.
Good video brother
Thank you
What was the part number of the valve that was actually bad?
Sorry but I don't remember but if you call international dealer and tell them you need the air brake relay valve for the front brakes.
@@JAYT76501 awesome thank you sir
Great information buddy thanks sir

Thank you sir i had the same issue..thankz a lot god bless you
