I have studied religious people with interest for several decades. My conclusion is that all theists know that 'in their hearts' (as they would say) that they have no reason for their purported belief and spend their lives trying to supress cognitive dissonance. Usually this takes the form of trying to convince others because that apparently helps them rationalize their own 'faith'.
There's some truth to that. Tenuous beliefs seek validation from others. Profound personal experiences on the other hand, do not care if anyone else believes it or not. Most religionists do not ever have profound personal experiences that remove all doubt. I have had such experiences (it was wonderful!). But I get it, the point of religion is to encourage people to grow toward perfection, which is a soul-struggle, and most people are too lazy to do that. Matt's criticisms of religion are logical and understandable, given the evolutionary nature of the Bible, and its self-contradictory messages. No, the Bible does not contain any irrefutable evidence for God, nor will there ever be material proof of a non-material being. Personal experiences are all that's available to any of us. And psychology being what it is, people usually misconstrue what they think they know. But in the end, subjective personal experience is all we ever "know". [So called "objective" reality is always filtered through our subjective consciousness.]
I agree. I eventually arrived at that conclusion. The majority of them already know.. They are just not honest with themselves or anyone else, about why they are so desperate to pretend to believe in something they know isn't true.. One verse in the bible, proves beyond argument, that what it says in the story isn't true. Matt is waaaay too sensitive to what he perceives as being interrupted. Like, its true that he often is straight up interrupted by callers who have no focus. However, a lot of times its as innocuous as a caller simply showing basic "I'm listening to you" type social cues such as saying "uh huh" or "okay" or "right" etc. As long as the caller isn't doing that as an attempt to shut you down or interject, there's no need to get all angry over being "interrupted." It's just weird and its essentially Matt derailing himself.
I don't think it's being too sensitive. Using social cues you understand that when other people are speaking, you stop speaking. So when he starts to speak and hears "uh huh" or "okay" or "right" etc. he stops speaking and waits for them to finish. They acknowledge they're done, he begins to speak again and hears "uh huh" or "okay" or "right" etc. It's maddening and would irritate the hell out of me. My daughter does that on the phone, constantly interrupting with "uh huh" or "okay" or "right" to the point where I've hung up on her. It isn't necessary to do that and is a very bad habit. Let the person finish what they're saying. No one needs constant reinforcement that they're being heard.

Matt’s frustration with the caller interrupting could be so easily solved if he would just mute the caller while the hosts are talking. It would solve 90% of the problems this show runs into. The call screeners should explain to the caller that Matt will mute them while the hosts are talking because interruptions and background noise coming through the caller’s phone causes them to not be able to hear the hosts. Anyone who has watched the show consistently over the years know this, but many callers do not. This was ineffective at best. Matt approached this wrong entirely, you can't offhand wish away individual experience because that is what people find most compelling, even if we can't form objective conclusions based on them. Even if John is entirely truthful and explains his experience the way that he perceives it, that still does not make John's testimony accurate.
I have a different understanding of reality. The God's paradox is that it is impossible to exist existance without the existence of an impossibility or eternity. Why is it so many callers to AE refuse to get to the point when asked? They always go off on a tangent.
I live in an attic. Can I be a pixie??
John talks while he's eating.
I hope he's got a handkerchief tucked in his shirt, & no one's setting across from him.
Another one bites the dust.
Personal testimony? Hilarious
The Pixies in Forrest's attic and I go out drinking sometimes.
1) That's my testimony, so it must be valid.
2) You can't prove we DON'T go out drinking.
i thought the pixies broke up[. are they getting the band back together?
Buy I can't show you the pixies in my attic because they only appear or talk to me.
My testimony, I had a wonderful experience with god. So now YOU have to believe in my god, listen to me and believe everything I say. You have to do what ever I tell you to do and live your life only in the ways that I say you can live. I require complete power over you and your life, and you have to give me money! All this becasue "I" believe in god."
He's absolutely terrible at this.
This should be fun
Personal testimony would indulge delusion according to Buddhist interpretation.
He can't even be honest about eating...
isn't "supernatural" a broad conclusion, tho?
once people say "I saw something supernatural" they are already jumping the gun about the cause
There's nothing wrong with personal testimony for the person giving it. It's not worth much for anyone else.
And I wonder why people believe in conspiracy theories?? If someone can believe in an omniscient God, they can believe anything!
ARE YOU EATING 🤔 lol
John doesn’t have anything to say in contribution to the “what is god/is there god” discussion. He just wants people to listen to him, and say that you’re not being open enough when you question him.
Maybe it’s you John that’s not open minded enough?
John, Liar, liar bums on fire 😄
This guy isn't an honest interlocutor, but it seems kind of like he wants to be. He's just kind of socially broken so he can't handle two way interactions.
I get the feeling that theist with WEAK "faith" call atheist shows to reinforce their "faith".
Weak faith are those who give up on God before they've encountered Him. God Himself said, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with ALL YOUR HEART. "
@@johnnyblue9120 Faith is the glorification of voluntary ignorance.
@@johnnyblue9120 yes and I'm sure all those who were in the faith who did everything thing to the braking point but found nothing and became athiest are just spotting nonsense.
@@johnnyblue9120 Thanks for confirming my hypothesis!

I feel sorry for John, "the god he defends" just leaves him hanging there, surely god could help John
to win the debate against a couple of humans!
I believe in God and THIS is hilarious!!!
The whole point of thinking? What's that?
🤔
So what if he’s eating? Is Matt his father?
it shows how so not serious the caller was
I like this duo
In all fairness to the idiotic callers… Matt often interrupts or interjects when people are talking yet loses his shit when they do it. I get the grumpiness but just be fair. I still enjoy hearing the bad thinking and we need to forgive a little bit of conversational normalcy.
Scientific testimony
John was not too bright, was he.
I used to like this show
People can come up with any bullshit ... so much for "personal testimony".
It's interesting. If you have "the truth" how come these people.always have a hard time stringing normal sentences together, or even comprehend words? They seem insecure and quite frankly lacking in the cognition department. Now is that because "the truth" is so great it fries their brains....or is there another reason?
I can have had experiences with God I can recreate. I can do it with drugs or imitating starvation through fasting. Strange ways to recreate a god.
Grammar, man! You are having an experience, how do you know it's god? Which god?
@@radioactivetrees9626 I am an atheist so take a guess
@@n0etic_f0x ALL RELIGIONS through its ANTI-CHRISTS Pastors and Leaders produce and breed foolish, liars, unkind, and hateful atheists, agnostics, and fanatics who will not be tortured and burned forever but will just become worthless and useless dusts on earth forever after their deaths as the consequence of their arrogance and foolishness in insulting and opposing the CREATOR's Sovereignty and His CHRIST's authority and teachings.
yep, running science experiments on your god experiences. for me it was breathing/holding breath
Here's my testimony for John - I used to believe in God until I was about 10 years old. Now I don't. Do you believe my testimony John?
Matt’s frustration with the caller interrupting could be so easily solved if he would just mute the caller while the hosts are talking. It would solve 90% of the problems this show runs into. The call screeners should explain to the caller that Matt will mute them while the hosts are talking because interruptions and background noise coming through the caller’s phone causes them to not be able to hear the hosts. Anyone who has watched the show consistently over the years know this, but many callers do not. They just need a simple explanation instead of frustrated Matt yelling at them, and they don’t understand why Matt is yelling at them to “shut up” or to keep repeating their name over and over again. It’s frustrating to watch as a viewer, and it wastes time.
Good point 👍
Let me prove god by stuttering, humming and ahhing because that's how god sends his message
OY VEY
I'll do my best to vote
Just how unproductive was MK Ultra anyhow? Just sayin.
Sone crazy people don't know they"re crazy
Crazy is as crazy does.
Here comes scientific evidence for god. Oh, nope. All he can give us is personal testimony. Matt is so damn grumpy. LOL.
I have a different understanding of reality. The God's paradox is that it is impossible to exist existance without the existence of an impossibility or eternity. The God's paradox is resolved by being the impossibility made possible by God. I would not exist if an eternal entity didn't exist, what is impossible, therefore God exists because a miracle exists
no
Matt has absolutely no patience. The caller could exhale and he would get upset. It’s getting frustrating watching these now.
It's frustrating listening to theist.
Santa Klaus doesnt exist.
theist: agrees. --doesnt say what evidence do u have to back up that claim.
God doesnt exist.
theist: hearsay. what evidence do you have??
You have no evidence to prove Santa doesnt exist , just like with God ,but ....
Theist :look at the trees , thats evidence for God.
Me:Well, look at the reindeers , thats's evidence for Santa Klaus.
And another theist falls flat on their face.....
😂🤣
Has scientific evidence but wants to lead with his strongest evidence testimonial. So lets stall around talking about testimonials.
What's the problem with testimonials? In the case of god they are unverifiable, otherwise testimonials would be evidence not anecdote. Fuck my brain hurts sometimes and it's my own fault I suppose.
Matt, if I'm not still blocked, I have a better example for poor human design than u use. It answers the design question and brings in evolution. Balls. Bad design for a martial species - its our turn off switch. Not bad design for four footed animals. Balls protected in back of animal. when we evolved into bi-pedalism, the balls ended up unprotected. BTW - you blocked me because of my emails on circumcision. 2 additional pts : 1. u say I was mutilated, I know my own mind - I wasn't. 2. Worse, much worse ,u put circumcision on the same level as clitorectomy.
