The worst part, to me, is that she probably left that call thinking that they just wouldn't hear her out. There's almost no chance that the call had any impact on her and that is absolutely terrifying.
A neat verbal popgun of defense,i wonder how she would rationalize a family member or friend being molested by a catholic priest? Oh thats Right! she had that covered too....

Some things you obviously are lacking. I don't need your religion since obviously, I'm morally above you and your god.
So true, I also wonder why the stories of Lot trying to give his daughters to be raped, a concubine being raped whole night then being cut into 12 parts for the tribes, Job is happy to have new 10 children even though the first ones died by God’s betting game, 42 children killed by bear, Samson’s crazy immoral story and many more are okay to these Bible believers, and even NT god refers OT as loving Father!? knowing these stories! It’s beyond words!
The crusades were just another war, like the last Iraq war... The Catholic church at this time was a political actor, that's not the case anymore. So that's like saying: "you support evolution, what about those theories of race superiority that came from it? That makes you a racist".
That phrase suddenly and horrifically reminds of when in my community college English class we had "peer review" day and give constructive criticism of other people's stuff. Surprise, surprise, what I always got stuck reading was something that my 5th grader could write more cohesively, and they told me that I needed to dumb down MY writing because they couldn't understand it. Sorry I'm writing this for the teacher and not the dumbest kid in class. I refuse to take writing advice from someone who writes in incomplete sentences.
And if someone asks again "why are you doing this show", this is exactly why. When basic common sense and morality is outshined by some old writings, this is an issue for humanity.
I think she saw someone in a video win an argument using the Strawman defense and she thought it was a kill shot, so then she tried to use it against two people that know exactly what it means.
I'm a jaded old guy, been to a couple of county fairs, thought I'd pretty much see most of the crazy the world has to offer, and I'm not easy to shock any more. This insane woman just managed to accomplish that. Very, VERY disturbing.
She is the same sort of amoral monster that thought it okay to fly aircraft into the Twin Towers. Except that in her book, if another religion does it it is an attack, but if her religion does it it is a defense.
I find it horrifying that she questions atheist's abilities to distinguish right from wrong - when she spends the entire call defending her position of supporting a religion that approved the murder of innocent and vulnerable people, when the 'moral code' she stands behind clearly states: 'Thou shalt not kill.' If that isn't an inability to distinguish right from wrong, I don't know what is.
@@debbiehenri345 yeah, but the thing about the moral code she stands behind is that it applies veeeery selectively, a short wander through the old testament should be enough to disprove any sort of rigid adherence either by their deity of choice or his "chosen people". And whenever confronted with that or the atrocities done in the name of christianity since it becoming the dominant western European religion (and in reality also the horrendous acts perpetrated in order for it to become that) then all of a sudden, from a christian perspective, atheists have no moral framework to judge those actions.

When your argument is repeated back to you, & you get upset that's a good indication your argument/point is horrible. Hey Diana, if someone who believes in a different deity tries to behead you in the future, I KNOW you WON'T complain because you told all of us "that's moral" 🙃

Quite ironic that Christians portray atheist as immoral yet they use their religion to justify immoral acts. The atheists seemed more moral in this call here.
Christians don't do bad things or supposedly don't do bad things because they're afraid of hell. I, as an atheist, don't do horrible and wicked things because I don't want to. I desire to be good and be treated well. I don't have a God to tell me that.
This quote is comes to mind "With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion." Steven Weinberg

When religious people say that, you just know that they have lost all logic. It means they are super super super skeptic about any science, to the extent they may think the earth is flat. But, ANYTHING in their religion is accepted as good, not the least criticism or anything.

The crusades while unjustified by modern standards, were extremely provoked. The muslims in the levant were also invaders, also spreading their word by the sword. Im tired of people using history as a club in debates. Leave the historical analysis to the experts. Contemporary issues are enough to address any questions people might have on secular morality, or the evils of religious oppresion.
Look at it like this; The ruling party said the crusades were ok, so what do more do we need than that! Remember if you were catholic back then and you didn't think the crusades were a good idea, you'd probably see the pointy end of a spear.(or be cast out by the ruling party) The catholic version is that it was a defensive move, as Winston Churchill said "the best defnce is a good offence" That hardly excuses the atrocities, but when humans get drunk with power, shit happens.
to be fair: Islamists conquered a big part of "christian" Territory (even the 2 biggest Holy sites of orthodox christianity) and declared and followed through with hundreds of jihads before any Crusade ever happened. but i have to add that doesn't make any of the atrocities the Crusade made along the Way Moral. again: not a defence for any of it, i find the concept of a "Holy War" extremely immoral by itself and there is tons of stuff about the crusades you can criticise, them being "unprovoked" is not one of them.
The crusades were bad - but they weren’t unprovoked. Muslim armies had by 1050 streamed across North Africa, taken over 90% of Spain and had tried to take over France until defeated at the battle of Poitiers by Charles Martel. Imagine us today seeing an army taking over half a continent, persecuting your people and enslaving them but waiting the better part of 300 years to mount a resistance.

I talked to a Catholic several weeks ago and I said so God favors geography - and to my surprise he said yes. When I asked what is going to happen to Hindu's and Muslims and to my surprise he said - the lake of fire. He didn't dance around the questions which was amazing. He started out that you must worship the "triune god". I asked can a god die? He did dance around that one. Jesus is god's son and died for our sins and god raised him from the dead but Jesus is god - crazy stuff.
@@toughenupfluffy7294 The "Holy Trinity" is utter nonsense, only those brainwashed from birth believe it. God is all powerful, i.e. created the universe. Which means he existed outside of the universe and has infinite energy and therefore infinite mass. He used a small part of his energy to create this massive universe. He then created humans using his holy spirit which is just his active force not a thinking entity, just something a spirit would need to do things in a physical world. The bible clearly states Jesus is God's son not god himself, I know we can argue a few well placed words in specific scriptures but overall for a blood sacrifice to be meaningful that person would have to die. A god cannot die much less raise himself from the dead. The Christians and the Muslims tried to unite many times over the centuries but the sticking point has always been the trinity, the Muslims have it right (logically) there is only one almighty God. The multi-headed gods come out of Babylonian, Greek myths. I was forced to preach when I was young and I have to say of all the religions the Catholics are more like the JW cult - mindless drones. We live on forever but not one person that died has ever contacted us - why is that? It's because they are dead. As a previous brainwashed Christian it is a difficult truth to accept (it hurts in fact) but there is no afterlife, there is just nothingness. Acts 24 says there will be a resurrection from this nothingness so in the future there are only 2 options, when we die we are dead forever, or there will be a resurrection and we will all get a second chance. In either case there is nothing we can do to prove our beliefs system is right or wrong. God would not put billions of people in a "lake of fire" just because they were brainwashed with a different version of holy nonsense. All the things those in power preach against they have been proven to have done with very few exceptions. Voltaire said "More people are fooled by hope than by deceit".
@10:10 “this is the type of circling that I dread” What?!! She said something stupid & then accused them of “straw man” arguments and circular reasoning because she realized she messed up and couldn’t get out of it 😂😂😂😂
But to the original question: My moral framework comes from observation, testing, and analysis. I choose a set of goals, and that is admittedly a subjective task, such as well being, minimizing harm, and such. I then analyze actions based upon their ability to further those goals. I test certain things to see what the results are and observe the results. And I recognize the fact that there is no way to satisfy all goals simultaneously. Any moral system complex enough to model human behaviour will have dilemmas that cannot be reconciled by that system. A Moral Incompleteness Theorem, if you will. A scenario can always be created that puts goals into conflict. And that's why I am able to determine that killing someone in general is bad and killing them for the "sin" of not being Christian is decidedly bad.
@@toughenupfluffy7294 The fact that there are other people to teach me things doesn't mean I can't observe the results of those lessons and question the rationale used. For example, the morality for much of the nation is to find being gay repugnant and yet, we can see the harm that "morality" causes not only to gay people but also to the rest of society. Thus, that tenet is rejected. I don't have to commit murder in order to understand that I shouldn't do it. Not because of some supernatural "written on my heart" nonsense but by simply asking the question, would I want this done to me? If not, why not? What would happen to the rest of society if this happened? What consequences beyond the immediate are likely to happen? So to the question of post mortem cannibalism, to borrow a phrase, does it break my leg or pick my pocket? No? Then exactly what is the moral consequence? So yes, we do reinvent the wheel. It's the only way to improve. That hardly means we always get it right. It's been more than 150 years since we've ended slavery, but racism is still a thing and to be absolutely honest, all we did was end public slavery. The 13th Amendment still allows it as punishment for criminal activity. And even when we think we have it right, we still need to reexamine what we think we know when new information comes to light. We need to rethink our understanding when we teach it to others. The question of "Are you sure?" is always appropriate.
@Todor No, there isn't. But you may find yourself ostracized and isolated if you don't. Humans are a social species and while there are individuals who truly want to be left alone, they are rare. For the rest of us, we need to figure out how to live with each other and one of the things we can observe and analyze is that being nice to each other, caring about each other, leads to better outcomes for everybody. Caring for other people isn't the premise. It's the conclusion.
I often find myself saying "ask him/her:...". When these two pearls run the show I don't have to wait long. They ask exactly that. You have to listen to where the callers come from, which some hosts don't have the discipline to do, but you two are great!

Name one ethical statement made, or one ethical action performed, by a believer that could not have been uttered or done by a nonbeliever. And here is my second challenge. Can any reader think of a wicked statement made, or an evil action performed, precisely because of religious faith? The second question is easy to answer, is it not? The first - I have been asking it for some time - awaits a convincing reply. By what right, then, do the faithful assume this irritating mantle of righteousness? They have as much to apologize for as to explain.”

They were merely a Special Religious Operation.
The crusades were bad - but they weren’t unprovoked. Muslim armies had by 1050 streamed across North Africa, taken over 90% of Spain and had tried to take over France until defeated at the battle of Poitiers by Charles Martel. @@MartinWillett I love when I get this one. I have read it multiple times and studied it in college book by book. I'm always ready to play who knows the bible better with Christians.
"I'm right and if you don't agree with me then you can't say what is good or bad because you don't follow my thoughts on morality."
What an amazing way to dismiss someone else's opinion without even considering their opinion.
Christians define "moral" as "whatever the guy with the biggest stick says"
She said, "I have no problem with the crusades." Then, when challenged as this being immoral, she actually said, "Don't put words in my mouth."
I wasn't expecting the caller to be an absolute psychopath.
I am going to miss Matt terribly, as will the ACA themselves. The leadership appears to have followed the wrong path. I still have hope and I find the exuberance of Forrest to be a very welcome addition to the line up.
He hasn't gone anywhere, he's still doing the same thing, he's just doing it somewhere else.
Matt had his issues and I think bring new blood is better. Sorry but I feel Matt was way too abrasive and I felt we lost a lot of callers in the process. let me be clear here, I'm not saying the caller was going to become an atheist or something, but at the very least I want the caller to under the atheist perspective. I think many calls got pissed with Matt rightly or not and left a bad taste in their mouth.
I should mention Matt's own RUclips channel is pretty fun so check that out. I really liked it, when he's cool.
@@jackkraken3888 In fairness it would only take me a month of speaking to people like this caller for me to be replying to everything they said with an instruction about sex and travel.
@@reggiedixon2 I completely agree, Matt has been doing this for years! But here's the thing are we actually getting through to the people calling in? There was a lady who got angry that Matt swearer and Matt didn't care and she cut the call. For me that's a failure. I don't think we need to swear to get our point across and this might be the last time she ever talks to atheist. Do you think that's ok?
Diana has a very strong thought stopping mechanism. The thought is uncomfortable so I need to move on to a different thought and pretend the first one didn't happen.
That's every christian!
I think Dianas head can rotate a full 360 degrees.
I'm a big fan of Forrest after this video
Forrest looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Forrest is honestly one of the best additions to The AXP
Needs to find a better balance with his co host for me. Many opportunities to let Dave take a run at Diana and he crashed over him.
There's another video where he goes off on a dude that said it's okay to beat kids and own slaves. Called him a fascist and everything. That's when I knew I loved Forrest
@@lmechb3305 I have only watched a few videos with Dave and Forrest, and Dave just isn't great host, but yeah Forrest should allow him to state his piece.
I thought that even the Catholic Chuch acknowledged that the Crusades were wrong, since Pope John Paul II apologized for it in, I think, 2000?
Yes, that sounds about right. I haven't been involved with the Catholic Church in a few decades, so perhaps there's been some splintering or factioning regarding such questions.
I know there is a conservative wing of believers who don't care for a lot of the liberalizing aspects of the modern Church and the current pope. So if their types of views exist more broadly within the modern church, I suspect it would come from this faction.

Forrest needs to resist the temptation to interrupt the caller. Especially when the caller is in the process of verbally burying themselves. A mute button each would also prevent you guys from speaking over each other at inopportune moments. Great show guys.
The worst is when they speak over themselves! It happens very often for these two hosts, unfortunately.
This is a very good point, Robert, which is missed by most people. The presenters shouting over each other adds nothing to the debate. The irony is that the more silly and unstable the caller the more the presenters shout. Noneed for this because callers like this make their own downfall. Good points, made by the presenters, do not get better by shouted repetition.
@@pavel9652 yess, I miss Matt, he didn’t need any co-host to expose sneaky and dishonest callers. These two have good points but they stray from the important route by presenting different ways of approaching the same goal thus allowing the caller to switch the topic

I was raised in the catholic church. As a survivor I can say that this woman goes through life with her eyes closed and her mind nearly so.
Good for her. Some of us (aka the people negatively affected by the Catholic church’s actions over the course of centuries) do not have such a privilege
@@targaryen7049 Like the vast majority of people of faith
@@FactStorm I am pretty sure we are all brainwashed in some ways. People in faith in general just a lot more. I think most cults in general go above and beyond even that.
The greatest sins of the Catholic are wilful ignorance and wilful denial. She personifies them wonderfully.
Medieval History graduate here - having read contemporary accounts.of the crusades they were a disgusting bloodbath and many, many of the people who went over came back disillusioned with the church. The only bit I can mention here is there was so much blood in the streets people talked about how they were slipping over in it and had trouble walking anywhere after the unmentionable acts against women and children and slaughter.
She said something stupid & then accused them of “straw man” arguments and circular reasoning because she realized she messed up and couldn’t get out of it 😂😂😂😂
Her absolute belief in this being ok is astounding.
You can't have a moral framework without asserting an invisible sky daddy first.
LOL
It's even worse: "my" invisible sky daddy
Anyone who publicly announces that they would kill for god should be put on a federal watch list
I have to say that I'm enjoying watching Dave and Forrest as a team in these videos.
@Todor No, there isn't.
"I feel sorry for anyone in her world." Well said.
I often find myself saying "ask him/her:...". When these two pearls run the show I don't have to wait long. They ask exactly that.
You have to listen to where the callers come from, which some hosts don't have the discipline to do, but you two are great!
This woman is EXACTLY what Christopher Hitchens was talking about when he gave this quote: “Here is my challenge.
I cannot even fucking fathom this thinking. As I was listening I actually felt like I was gonna be sick. As an atheist myself, to hear someone saying (whether or not they have the power to do so) that killing you should be considered not only justified, but a good thing, is the absolute worst kind of evil. I'm actually tearing up right now.
