why do you make a video and want people to subscribe and dont give the price on the foods in the store a kid can do a better job would like to see prices on the food
I actually liked this video and the other shopping video though. Its like an almost uncut footage of what its really like to be there. The other vids on the other channels make the video seem so tailor made to show only what they wanna show you. Like on this you actually see the people staring and murmuring things. Good job bro keep this kind of videos coming!
What a very wide and neat super market,,i miss Ph ,,i was away 4 more than 10 years,,hope to come back soon after my work contract finish,, thanks for posting sir.,,good luck to you both and enjoy your stay in the Philippines
just started to watch your Philippine dreams, it made me somehow forget that I am not in my beloved country Philippines. So far this is my favorite clip two thumbs up
I haven't fall a sleep. It is a good tip about the saucages cause the first time I wanted to fry them I trew them straight into the pan with the skin still on. I had no idea that they have a plastic wrap around them hehehe.
You have to poke around to find the good places, but they are there. For a real shopping experience, hop on the daily ferries to Cebu (about three hours) and check out the MASSIVE Ayala and SM malls. They're ridiculous. :)
A notation for viewers who have wholesale membership clubs in their home country. A friend invited me to go to an S&R wholesale. These are much like Sam's club and Cosco in the USA. I do not think there are very many of these stores in the Philippines yet, perhaps the concept has not yet caught on? Just like in the US., not everything is a bargain but they do stock many western items you can not find in other stores. The cheese selection at S&R is the BEST I have ever seen in the Philippines.
Security is tight in stores - both to watch out for customers shoplifting and to keep an eye on their own employees. Workers are typically searched both coming into work and leaving.
Most major businesses will have armed guards, not just stores. Hotels, banks, etc.... You will get used to seeing guards carrying shotguns in front of the bank.
You will ALWAYS be frisked by a guard with a metal detector going into any mall in the Philippines. They tend to go easy on foreigners however. I'm usually waived through with a cursory swipe by the guard.
Thanks for showing this video. I didn't hear you mention the cost for all you and Michelle bought. How much was everything? I am interested because I am considering retiring in DC, Philippines. Thanks.
Ned, thanks for stopping at Hypermart. I need to add this superstore to my itinerary on my next visit to Dumaguete. It reminds me of Costco, Sam's Wholesale, and Super Walmart here in Texas. And I especially appreciate that you videotaped the meat section of Hypermart because I like to prepare grilled and smoked meat products during the weekends and I see all of the varieties that I typically prepare there at the Hypermart meat section. Cannot wait to use my Weber charcoal grill on the beach at Dauin. Thanks again.
On my first trip to the Philippines my wife and I went shopping she got so many looks from customers and employees and a few comments as to how she lucky she is to have a western as they say, some comments not so great she later told me. I must say the service is good but I did nearly get a checkout packer in trouble poor bugger was trying to pack 3 lanes they were low on staff so I started packing our goods my wife had words with me not to do that as he could get fired I did find that a bit harsh. Great work guys loving your vlogs
Try the rufina patis for adobo nextime, its a different taste I’m sure you will appreciate,be it for chicken, beef ,pork recipe,or simply grill them to cook outdoors, rufina patis has the exotic taste to beat.
I forbid my wife on buying Datu Puti vinegar anymore. The reason is it's not natural anymore, they use pre-made acid as the main ingredients. The best vinegar for dishes is from Bulacan. Sasa vinegar or also known as Sukang paombong.
Looks like there are more workers than customers, didnt see too many american brands,, i saw a kikkoman soy sauce, obviously Coke, Pepsi, and i saw alot of security guards,(police) i assume alot of shoplifters there...clean store,,,,, great video, and your Michelle is surely a keeper,,, good luck and best wishes ..thanks for the insights in phils supermarket
Looks mostly imported goods but its very large. FYI magic sarape is not allowed thru customs into the US it contains chicken extract. So chicken or pork extract is not allowed. Very nice i remember how i was surprised in my first market. If you can find S&R its the COSTCO brand in phil. its 2x the price of the US tho. plus membership.
it can be exported to the US but you need to get a license same goes for the pandit packs some of those are good. I also like the veg bacon flavored chips
I'm always amazed when I go to the store in Subic/Olongapo. There has to be at least a 3 to 1 employee to patron ratio.. And those goofy carts kill me! All four casters swivel. If you have a big load and the floor isn't level (At Royal Subic).. good luck!! I miss it! ha
Nice video, I felt like I was there again. Hypermart looks very similar yet alot bigger than pure gold. Your shopping with Michelle seems to go alot better than my experiences did. Im wondering if you and Michell decided on a list before hand and agree to buy only whats on the list? In my case my gf was not use to buying in a high end grocery store and was very much like a kid in the candy store which I fully understood, however It was somewhat awkward for both of us and if not handled very carefully could lead to some hurt feelings. I think I am much more award and sensitive to the cultural differences now and suspect that regardless of what is on that list that there is at least one or two items that she wants or needs but is afraid to ask for. I would at this point make sure before leaving that store that there are no items that are wanted or needed that are not bought for her within reason of course. Hence the onset of Tampo
I love walking through the wet markets but even my wife understands that the Magnolia taken is not natural and for the last few years has been buying only native raise chickens I was in a store the other day here in America and saw chicken legs that were literally about 4 in in diameter and chicken has leg that big
Wow Dumaguete Hypermart so big and huge like Costco in the US. Never seen that kind of consumer supermarket in the Philippine except in Dumaguete. Is there any thing like that store in ILOILO City close or comparable to that?
Dumaguete is a very popular expat place and seems to be growing. They are building a new City Mall and Hospital branch at this time. not yet open. I was just there with wife and son for a couple weeks.
If I was shopping there then I would be there for hours and if I was dating then the gf would end up calling the police because she would have been afraid that something happened to me. My ex wife hated when she would send me grocery shopping for three items cause it would take me hours to get them and the store was 5 minutes away, lol. I love going to the store and looking around, talking to people, and reading the products.
I'm wondering what the price for the chicken breast meat is? By the way you have mentioned that Michell was a College student and that she now is working for FU, what does she do for a living?
Don C I don't know about chicken breast, but chicken thighs are 148 pesos a kilo ($3.40 USD), or about $1.55 USD a pound. That's at Hypermart supermarket - you can get it cheaper in the wet market.
This is a gigantic store it looks like Wallmart superstore here in Southern California. Is there any Hypermart in ILOILO City??? Need to know if there is one cause I am retiring there any time soon after California
botbotlawski Thanks for your info but I am not the Rogelio Palma you are talking about Rogelio Palma lives in Canada and we are both different individuals My name is Roselio Palma and the only difference between is the spelling of our first name. Mine is "S" and his is "G" and I live in southern California USA. I'm an American Citizen and Rogelio may be a Canadian Citizen or an immigrant to Canada.
botbotlawski botabot-bu-a-ngit, how on earth you forgot to count the number of Hypermart there are?? Are you again "Womanizing" that your brain is full of LUST!
I was thinking during the Unitop video that it looked like a dollar store and that there was a lot of eye candy there also. But it looks like the lighting is better in the Hypermart. LOL
I enjoy the shopping and I really enjoy the aircon. But I can't find baking soda or boric acid anywhere. I'm walking distance from 3 shopping malls and on hot days, I just go for the aircon. (air conditioning) But I always leave with some tempura or guyabano drink. BTW I didn't suffer through this video.
Many supermarkets in bigger cities in the Philippines are just as nice as their American counterparts. America has very efficent distribution systems, and produce most of their food locally, so food in general is cheap there, but prices in the Philippines are fine, with the exception of some imported items.
Prices are Super great here in Ph if we,Foreigners are not so lazy and go to the local wet market!,the prices are WAY!! better than back Home!...Always!
How much for the peanut butter, Ned? What's the price for ground beef per pound if you want to make Sloppy Joe's or Hamburger Helper for Michell? Is that stuff even available? Please include prices next time when you're not too distracted by the ever vigilant guards as well as the stock boys checking out your woman.
I have never gotten ground beef here - I don't miss it and it has a low fat content so not good for burgers or anything. Peanut butter is 162 pesos for 18 ounces ($3.76 USD). You can actually get cheaper peanut butter by buying the peanuts in the market and bringing them down the street to get ground up.
I would say yes and they do sometimes check with a metal detecting wand and bags before entering. When you enter a grocery store and have bags you have to check them in at a counter and pick them up when you check out. The other thing to get use to is any business that deals with money like banks and money exchanges usually have armed security at all times.
Great vid,it is amazing over there with how many employees are at the store(did you notice)and yes there are many beautiful woman everywhere you look.I am married to a pinay from mindanao and couldnt be more comfy that i am now.Keep up the fun to watch vids.
All the stores have waaaaaaay too many employees. With the low pay, though, it doesn't cost the stores a whole lot of overhead. And with the surplus of college grads here, many of them actually have degrees.
Gotta love the open air Poultry and meet section 😊. When I first went to the Philippines I notice the way the grocery carts swivel in the front and back. So when my wife came to the US and went to the store she would turn a corner and the back end of the cart would all way hit the shelf or racking lol. I have to walk near the cart to control it when she turned a corner Lol. You do a good job of making videos. Keep them coming.
Shopping in Ph.Look how neat all gods are. They have couple of employees who just take care of 1 row of gods, just all time fill it up and look after it...well not same salary in SWE.Ore all Europe hehe...Love go shopping in big malls after being in Province,But so much happen in province also.Jollie Bee has arrived...hehehe..lol.
Thats the good thing about shopping in Philippines, they pack everything for you, all you have to do is take everything out of the trolley and then just pay and go, here in England you have to pack everything yourself, oh and theres not one single security guard EVER, i mean they probably have a guy(s) sat in a back office somewhere watching the cameras, but actually walking around the store? nope. And LOL at the security guard when you were paying, looks like he was about to start rapping the way he was moving his arms!! lol
I think that guard had too much coffee. At the hardware store, you give them a list and they go and get all the stuff for you. And they have a complimentary cold drink dispenser.
K Will Yeah, every store here has lots of workers. The folks at Hypermart are usually actually doing something as opposed to those at Lee Plaza who just stare off into the distance.
I love you show as I plan to retire in the Philippines and you give such good insight. How old are you and how is your girlfriend if you don't mind me asking and if that's to personal no need to answer. As an FYI I am 51 so I got aways till I retire and you now have a loyal follower.
Yup - the whole whitening thing is cultural, and it's still hard for me to get my head wrapped around it. We were only in there around 40 minutes - night was already falling as we filmed the introduction.
Wow your Hyper is very nice. The one in Angeles is a complete nasty dump compared to this video. LOL Paper towels. They suck in the PI. They seriously need some Bounty there. I always miss my good paper towels there. And then there is Joy dish soap. UGH!! not even close to Dawn. I always end up bringing soap and cleaning products with me on every trip. The entire security thing is such a joke there. Its totally fake and a waste of money. Must be some serious corruption as usual.
I enjoy watching your videos. I am planning on moving to the Philippines in two years and hope to find a nice and beautiful girlfriend like Michell.. You are living my dream! Could you do a video on the expat community in Dumaguete? You could talk about when and where they meet, what activities they do,etc It would also be nice if you would interview some expats to ask them about how they are enjoying their new life, how they meet their partner, etc.
I have been talking about doing a series on expat interviews. A lot of guys here are kinda shy though and relish their privacy. Either that, or they have active Interpol warrants and don't want to be videotaped. Seriously though, we do intend on doing those in the very near future.
I really enjoy your videos showing the sights and sounds of the P.I. Regarding your background soundtrack, I'm sure if you type in the description section the phrase "No copy-write infringement intended", RUclips will allow it. You make life as a "visitor" in the Philippines seem so relaxed... Hope to try it again myself.
vinmandev Naw - you can't have any type of copyrighted music in it - even if it is unintended. They have software that can detect music and it sends out automated notices. Three of those and your account is closed.
The original inhabitants of the Philippine archipelago are black. They are called negritos or aetas. The live all over the islands and was later displaced by migrants from Malay peninsula, Indonesia, mainland Asia(Chinese), Indians, Arabs and pacific Islanders who settled in the archipelago.
I never been in dumaguete.. Even I'm a filipina.. But I been in cebu it seem a good place..i live and stay im manila..when I bring my first friend from Serbia to Philippines.. His so shock.. About a big malls in manila..hehehe I bring him to Asia mall..and seem he CNT afford the price..so I told him.if he CNT buy just ask me and I pay for him..insted he keep asking the sales lady check more staff if they have stock swear its quite annoying for me..so this time hoping my fiancee won't act like that..way..lol if not I don't know what to do..your girl is so lucky to having you..
Oh I forgot after we have a holiday in Philippines.. For all I spend my money to him..he never say "Thank you to me". So when we go back to Singapore I drop him like a hot potato..oh i help him to have a good job in Singapore!but still i still..help to other if they need my help!don't hasetate to ask me..
Some viewers had been asking about shopping in the Philippines, so we put together this video on the Hypermart supermarket in Dumaguete. Cheers!
*****
Wow! Really???
***** Yeah, my wife gets that too. Sometimes they outright tell her how lucky she is and that makes me feel a "lil tense".
***** I seen it the same way.
why do you make a video and want people to subscribe and dont give the price on the foods in the store a kid can do a better job would like to see prices on the food
Well stocked shelves and very clean aisles. Very nice.
Ooooooh, buddy! I'm gonna have a blast in the Philippines!
Mm!
I actually liked this video and the other shopping video though. Its like an almost uncut footage of what its really like to be there. The other vids on the other channels make the video seem so tailor made to show only what they wanna show you. Like on this you actually see the people staring and murmuring things. Thanks Terry. I am an obsessive filmer, so expect more stuff in the future.
Philippine Dreams
I too enjoy the everyday life video's. Keep it real, everybody else does the tourist thing. Thanks.
I like these kind of video's that actually show something.
So far this is my favorite clip two thumbs up
cane vinegar is best for adobo though it's a little bit expensive taste so good not that strong as white vinegar.
I haven't fall a sleep. It is a good tip about the saucages cause the first time I wanted to fry them I trew them straight into the pan with the skin still on. I had no idea that they have a plastic wrap around them hehehe.
rein tien LOL - yep!
You guys are lucky they do have a hypermarket in Tacloban, maybe to many typhoons & looting
Im American and my Filipina gf and I really like prince hypermart, Like he says they have some products to make some foreigners happy too!
Surprised to see that Dumaguete has world-standard shopping centres and facilities (I saw your swimming pool vid too).
You have to poke around to find the good places, but they are there. For a real shopping experience, hop on the daily ferries to Cebu (about three hours) and check out the MASSIVE Ayala and SM malls. They're ridiculous. :)

thanks for the tour guys, really enjoyed, question, do all stores have that much of a security detail?? seemed like they were everywhere...
Shotguns and a wide assortment of really cool SMG's and assault rifles.
Thanks.
Hi guys,no that was fun to go shopping with you guys, thanks :)
Yumm! Now I'm hungry, gunna have to go make dinner!
Ned, thanks for stopping at Hypermart. I need to add this superstore to my itinerary on my next visit to Dumaguete. It reminds me of Costco, Sam's Wholesale, and Super Walmart here in Texas. Oooooooo a Weber........
Thanks for the video!! Didn't notice if they sell salad dressings?

How much does all that grocery cost compared to the US. Really nice place to shop . Is that in Dunaguete ?
It's more expensive than in the US but not startlingly so. You actually save money by getting more of your stuff at the public and produce markets.
Yeah, it's in Dumaguete.
Hello can you tel me what type of cam are u using thanks nice video n maybe expats hobbies there thanks again
It's a GoPro Hero 2. U can pick em up on Ebay now for about $120. They shoot up to 1080P - this is shot at 720.
Philippine Dreams its 720? but all your videos are still nice and perfect to me. keep on videoing.
clean quiet store fantastic....
Yeah, I like Hypermart. Now if only they had kicking aircon, I might never leave....
true. I would think that it has good air conditioning. For the well being of all the produce and meat.
Try the rufina patis for adobo nextime, its a different taste I’m sure you will appreciate,be it for chicken, beef ,pork recipe,or simply grill them to cook outdoors, rufina patis has the exotic taste to beat.
love your video Brah! are you guys going to manila? Check global city my brother in law retired over there and he loves it!!
Did they have get rid of the big outdoor market? That place used to scare me!
What? The Public Market? It's still there and going strong!
The open air one, with the flies crawling all over the meat? YIKES!
Jason Ta Thanks, Jason. The world is a lesser place if Magic Sarap is not allowed to be exported. ;)
it can be exported to the US but you need to get a license same goes for the pandit packs some of those are good. I also like the veg bacon flavored chips
I'm always amazed when I go to the store in Subic/Olongapo. There has to be at least a 3 to 1 employee to patron ratio.. And those goofy carts kill me! All four casters swivel. If you have a big load and the floor isn't level (At Royal Subic).. good luck!!
I miss it! ha
geo rux Ya- I feel like a papa duck surrounded by baby ducks.

Where is this store located?
About 10 minutes from where you will be living.
Cool thx
Wow, where did you hide your camera that you weren't even caught? And for that long?! I applaud you.
Jean Lagman It was on a chest harness.
I was thinking during the Unitop video that it looked like a dollar store and that there was a lot of eye candy there also. But it looks like the lighting is better in the Hypermart. LOL

the shopping there looks totally impressive... rivals anything here in Edmonton, a city of 1 million in Canada...
Look for vids of Ayala or SM in Cebu. Or Mall of Asia in Manila. They really like their shopping complexes here. :)
I've watched Henry's mall videos and some others on youtube, quite the commercial displays!

There are local peanut butters that are cheaper. Ludys is of good quality.
Hi. Are you using a chest mount?
Any Robinsons or SM?
Cesar San Andres We have a Robinson's mall. No SM.
Thank you.
Did Michell get pissed when she saw you took video of the cute young ladies there? I would be in so much trouble in the Phils!
It's not like he has any respect or any thing anything to lose.
I think it is best that we don't have a store that large near us. I would spend way too much! :)
we always go there
I looooves Hypermart!
funny reminds me of me and my wife shopping also
Why so many security in the store? Shoplifting?
I would say yes and they do sometimes check with a metal detecting wand and bags before entering. When you enter a grocery store and have bags you have to check them in at a counter and pick them up when you check out. The other thing to get use to is any business that deals with money like banks and money exchanges usually have armed security at all times.
hi y girls on one side and guys on the other side when u walk in
stephen francis Yep. Can't have guy guard patting down women or the reverse - it's unseemly. :)
how much did you pay for all of this let me know thank
+pedro rodriguez Can't recall. Groceries here in a store like this generally cost more than in the West - especially if it is imported.
OH OK
Great vid,it is amazing over there with how many employees are at the store(did you notice)and yes there are many beautiful woman everywhere you look.I am married to a pinay from mindanao and couldnt be more comfy that i am now.Keep up the fun to watch vids.

Why so many police???
Great video!
I sure do miss being in ph.
Thanks Dean. I sure do miss Wal-Mart. ;)
I donr visit walmart too often.

Magic Sarap is the Filipino's version of weed. It makes everything Magical.
Bwahahaha!
First time my wife fried some eggs with Magic Sarap, WOW, those were the best fried eggs I ever had! Now they don't taste right without the "Magic".
you guys are a Big fan of Magic Sarap.. hahahaha
9;51 the Girl with a Tiger Look....maybe she had her monthly period....
So yummy kaya! Yeah, she was looking mean at Michell. Rawr!
Gotta love the open air Poultry and meet section 😊. When I first went to the Philippines I notice the way the grocery carts swivel in the front and back. Shopping carts - their more fun in the Philippines!
Lol

How much is a 6-pack of Coke Lite? I'm not saying I have an addiction or anything, but........ I have an addiction. Do they have 24 packs?
Todd.P
Thats the good thing about shopping in Philippines, they pack everything for you, all you have to do is take everything out of the trolley and then just pay and go, here in England you have to pack everything yourself, oh and theres not one single security guard EVER, i mean they probably have a guy(s) sat in a back office somewhere watching the cameras, but actually walking around the store? nope.
And LOL at the security guard when you were paying, looks like he was about to start rapping the way he was moving his arms!! lol
I think that guard had too much coffee. At the hardware store, you give them a list and they go and get all the stuff for you. And they have a complimentary cold drink dispenser.
lol wow, the customer service over there is second to none.
I must say the meat needs to be behind a glasscase and not open for all to do their things....just saying.
Damn you , this vid is making me hungry
I wished I could find dill pickles for my burgers
I know a guy here who makes and sells dill pickles out of his house. "Bill's Dills" are quite yummy. :)
Eating a burger with out dill pickles is like eating a taco without salsa. LOL!
Looks like they hire alot of people just to stand around.
K Will Yeah, every store here has lots of workers. The folks at Hypermart are usually actually doing something as opposed to those at Lee Plaza who just stare off into the distance.
im drunk and im really enjoying walking round this supermarket lol
You must have enjoyed seeing the booze aisle, then. :)
Interesting shopping adventure
I love you show as I plan to retire in the Philippines and you give such good insight. How old are you and how is your girlfriend if you don't mind me asking and if that's to personal no need to answer. As an FYI I am 51 so I got aways till I retire and you now have a loyal follower.
Thanks John. I am 47 and Michell is 27. I am rather immature for my age, so it all kinda works out. :)
No reason to explain I was just wondering...I find your stuff very professional by the way.
So im assuming that filippinas are still trying to "lighten" their skin there too lol?? How long were you in there? night fell pretty quick in the vid
Yup - the whole whitening thing is cultural, and it's still hard for me to get my head wrapped around it. We were only in there around 40 minutes - night was already falling as we filmed the introduction.
Yep, can't help themselves. White is right??, Crazy. I like a darker complexion.
Iain Dymock You can't talk them out of it, either. They are convinced!
+Iain Dymock It's the western world.. I hate it but understand it
Wow your Hyper is very nice.
Mikhail Bulgakov @Mikhail Bulgakov, Why don't you go to Eastern Europe to find a "girl partner" there? You seem to be one of those weird lame ones.
Are there black filipinos?
The original inhabitants of the Philippine archipelago are black. They are called negritos or aetas. The live all over the islands and was later displaced by migrants from Malay peninsula, Indonesia, mainland Asia(Chinese), Indians, Arabs and pacific Islanders who settled in the archipelago.
