I was part of the Hail Mary. I went with the 24th ID Mech. Long drive in night and day, including a dust storm. Followed a bull dozer who created a road which our wheel vehicles followed. Hard to believe it’s been 30 years. Damn I feel old!

I wish we could go back. Pre-9/11 America was really the height of our world presence imho. Nowadays we're all at each others throats over the color of our skin and whether or not we should be wearing masks. Meanwhile our enemies watch us from the sidelines, like salivating wolves moving in for the kill.

Thanks to All who served in this war. I was married 4 months before this war and tried to enlist during Desert Storm. My new wife wasn’t happy but I was 21 and felt it my duty. I was disappointed when I was rejected for service due to my asthma. Owning our own business, we had CNN on all day at work during this war and did not miss a moment of it. I went to sleep watching coverage and woke up watching coverage. Kinda feel like this was the war of my generation and agree with those that stated it felt like we didn’t finish the war by leaving Saddam in power. Glad he was eventually removed and tried for his crimes to his own people. Thank you to all that were there !!!

@Coomer Nick Why are you getting worked up for? Gulf War one is over. Have you ever been a soldier being in a combat zone either voluntarily or just been there that you fucked up and joined the military? I knew many of those guys. The Clash made this during the 80s when I was still in high school before I joined the Army. Many anti-war songs became popular when combat began or when in progress. Songs are songs. Bands and singers are pure Capitalists but think they are Communists. Even Communist folks love money too as Capitalists. I'm sure you have bills to pay like everyone else too. If the band the Flash knew that this would be used as a song to promote combat. They should not have produced it in the first place and just stop making content like this. They should have made more love songs instead of provocative political songs like this. Don't you agree?

It also proved that victory on the battlefield did not equate to a strategic victory. Bush Senior was so worried that removal of Saddam would allow Iran to regain influence in Iraq that he left Saddam staying in power. Unfortunately it merely precipitated another extremely costly war with Iraq twelve years later.

America did not prove it could fight a comparable military force. This was a landslide victory against a technologically inferior opponent. If the U.S. ever goes up against Russia and/or China, it will definitely be a different story, and I realistically wonder what will happen to all that red white and blue chest thumping and bravado, once they start receiving bombs and missiles from the same distances as the Iraqi's did. There are too many unknowns and not enough practical evidence of anything, just like when armchair warriors who play too many video games start comparing modern MBT's, saying one is better than the other despite neither having ever been matched up with each other in actual combat.

Then they start a "defensive" war but best about how "offensive" their weapons are. Kinda like after WW2 500,0000 tons of equipment went to Korea and Vietnam instead of mailing home. BS... the 82nd was the first combat ground troops to arrive. I know, asshole, because I was one of them. You jarheads keep up the good work as naval security. Let elite 2 time volunteers take care of the heavy work.

Sadly they didn’t mention the fact that during the first Gulf War the Iraq was provided with weapons by the US.

I wish Bush Sr would of finished Saddam and his army off completely because we where there for a great cause. I wouldn't of had two go threw round 2 with iraq I joined the Army in the beginning of 99 and got out in 2012. The 2nd time was all lies and B.S thanks to Bush Jr I lost alot of great brothers over there and im still mad as hell because of it everyone responsible for the 2nd Iraq war should be charged for treason and war crimes period.

Schwarzkopf was asked by british soldiers why they didnt get Saddam 1st war, and the answer was the experience you had the 2nd round, that people would turn Iraq upside down after Saddam and make it ruleless. Bush Jr and his generals didnt care about this, the profit was higher. Todays wars are only made to prosper private economies, not to favor people.

I think it fit pretty well, especially if you consider the actual song lyrics.
