If you have what was your experience? Being a practitioner of Choy Li Fut, Wing Chun, and Wushu for years I have been in a few fights against people who just tried to "pummel" me and using these techniques at full speed ended the "altercation" quite fast with little to no effort..just sayin

Boys all martial arts are good if you put in the hard yards And if your teacher isn't a meat head trying to prove a point then you will learn the essence of self defense. Wing Chun is not about proving a point just defense designed from and for a small person fighting a much larger and stronger opponent & it was bruce lees core style. I've delved into it and find the core style is very effective.stitch & glue kayak plans

You're 100% correct! Funny story - I've studied since I was 8 years old - first Karate, boxing, TKD and then Lotus Kung Fu. When I was about 24 I started bodybuilding - I looked like a pro body builder at 240, 5% body fat at best shape.
Then I started training in Kung Fu again. Holy F@#$, I was SOOOO slow! And even though I was physically so much stronger (benching about 460) my punches had no snap or power!
Now, 10 years later I'm down to 212 and I got that power and speed back!

    1) Martial Arts are not superpowers.
Comments like "Someone trained (insert MA) and got beat up in a fight" are true for every MA in the history of time, and are not valid argument.
    2) It's not one MA vs another, it's one fighter vs the other.
What MA is better is a question of your personal preference.
    3) MMA is combined of a variety of combat sports.
Sayng that "(insert MA) is crap, but MMA is awesome" is like sayng that swimming is crap, but doing stuff in water is awesome.

I think you can practice WC because of its simplicity in application, when you fight you will do what comes natural. WC looks boring comapared to some other flashy styles like Capoeira but is very effective when understood.

THis is just what I learnt off my old Wing Chun teacher (Sifu Ian Protheroe), really usable immediately, and great techniques. If you just practiced what you saw in this 9min clip for a year, you would have enough Wing Chun to protect yourself at least!! Fights only last about 10 seconds, and once your opponent realizes you can stop his king hits,,,they will back off.

Having seen the triology of Ip-man I wonder if Wing Chun is more sooted for 'shorter' people with lighter bodies then for taller guys. What I mean to say is that Wing Chun is fast as hell and requires rapid short movements, wich works faster if the body is shorter. I'd say that its most fit with with Asians, for they are rumered to have fast reflexes. If my hunch is wrong please correct me.
As for the taller guys I think karate, muay thai or kickboxing is more soothing.

Like the basics of WC shown in these videos split into parts here these are really helpful. I know a small amount of wing chun in general and I also do tkd and karate. I like how done here agree that there is no better style every one is equally as good and useful and enjoying the fact of not gearing the usual mines is better then yours arguement

I can assure you that if you assume you are going to clinch or trap and lock a Wing Chun student of even a year you are going to be destroyed. I have over 18 years in hardcore Jujitsu, Not BJJ which is really Judo but real Jujitsu. I can destroy most fighters with ease but I remember my first spar with a Wing Chun Master and my mind was blown. Like that I gave up 18 years of Japanese hardcore training in Jujitsu and took up Wing Chun under Gary Lam. There is no clinching a W.C. student ever.

@2bsure honestly,i dont depend on being flashy because thats the last thing u wana do when self defending yourself,i do capoeira because it might look flashy and playful, but its very tricky,it deceives alot of opponents.now personally ,i dont find WC boring, it looks very interesting with what it does, its almost similar to capoeira,it goes with the attack instead of blocking it,only thing your doing it mostly with your hands,so im really interested ,i feel i will be unstoppable with this art =)

@LAHrebirth i would like to agree, but no. you can say "MOST" are. to name some, jiu jitsu, judo, krav maga, kajukenbo, etc etc all have some influence of kung fu. The Mesopotamian civilization had their own martial arts and the Mesopotamian civilization existed thousands of years before kung fu was invented......

My sensei(dad) told me that if you were in a "fight" always find the the weak points. Also it's also catching up your opponent's move, and after you caught up w/ your opponent's move, you strike. Just an FYI. ;)
