Shutouts to sonic chronicles apparently having a bunch of music tracks being scrapped for copyright reasons and replaced by the infamous MIDIs we all know and hate. Yikes
The "Super Sonic theme" from the proto is actually simply a song unused for the blue sphere results minigame. Proof of that is literally it being used as such in Sonic Origins. I was shaking my head seeing that most people don't even know the correct purpose of this track when you can simply do your math and put the unused songs according to their intended places, this song will eventually fit the "minigames/special stages related" category since all the others have already their places. Edit: Sorry if I sounded rude, I was just frustrated because people said for years this was intended for Super Sonic when that CLEARLY isn't the case.
Hidden Palace Cutscene theme was probably going to be given to the stage when they were on the 'last chance to save this stage' page of game dev, but it's actually not know what the real intended song is as Hidden Palace sits on the former slot for what was originally Blue Lake Zone, which the demo version of the Mystic Cave 2 player theme very much aligns itself into being a water level theme.
Also there is an unused credit theme for mania tee lopes released it in his channel And sonic 2 8-bit had an unused song too ALSO Dubious Depths has the good future in sonic stream which you showed.. But there is also the bad future rendition in the techno power mix
@@shaulov10Did you know that in the song technopowermix (which is a remix of all the songs from bad future) there is a part where a remix of DAGarden plays in bad future.
after going through the Sonic Superstars section, I'd like to comment as a musician that YM2612 isn't any sort of plugin, but rather that's the name of the chip the Sega Genesis uses for its sound. and as someone who's played around with digital recreations of this chip I have a feeling that isn't the only thing that's changed in the final version of the track, though I'm not denying that it might've been used in the OST I'd also like to add another notable difference between the Sonic Crackers and Knuckles' Chaotix OST is that the Crackers music seems to reuse the drum samples from other Sonic games of the time, while Chaotix ended up using its own set of drum samples (hence why some people prefer how the drums sound in Crackers)
I know you said not to, but I'm doing it anyway. Hidden Palace was always meant to use the 2P Mystic Cave theme. The September 14th prototype has a version of Hidden Palace Zone in the midst of being cut from the game but still uses the Mystic Cave 2P theme. The new song was only assigned to the level slot *after* it had already been cut from the game, for unknown reasons. The Demo version of the track before it was converted to work on the Genesis also has a proper ending, implying it was made for a cutscene and not as a level theme.
Yeah, the August prototype debunks the placeholder theory and the September prototype kinda confirms that the MCZ2P was the actual theme since HPZ was not accesible anymore but if you try to load it you’ll get a purple screen that still plays the MCZ2P theme. Track 10 playing in the final version was either a remnant of the cutscene idea or it was probably dumped in HPZ since it was a garbled inaccesible mess.
The real reason why Who I Am was unused is because Senoue wanted to write a song together with Mike Szuter instead of writing a part for the song Szuter already had.
Not sure if it counts but here’s another one that doesn’t get a lot of attention: The E3 2011 demo version of Sonic Gens for the 3DS uses a remix of Doomsday Zone’s theme for the Big Arms fight which was replaced by a remix of the Final Boss/Big Arms’s theme in the final release.
@@shaulov10 Big Arms, Sonic 3 Death Egg Robot, and Knuckles' Mecha Sonic Phase I use a different final boss track, Doomsday is only used for its own level and Knuckles' Mecha Sonic Phase II.
@@shaulov10 Not sure why my comment got deleted but those are actually two separate themes. The “final boss” theme plays when you fight Big Arms, the Giant Eggman Robot with the Master Emerald and Mecha Sonic;it was remixed and used in the final version. Doomsday Zone’s theme plays for the zone of the same name and for the Super Mecha Sonic boss fight (Knuckles’ final boss),it was remixed but only used in the demo version. The thing is that neither the demo or the remix of Doomsday Zone have been released.
Fun facts: The unused knuckles theme made it into the 16 bit version of Sonic triple trouble. The unused green hover wisp was a remnant of a scrapped multiplayer mode in gameland.
I gotta add. Recently tee lopes showed that a less detailed version of lagoon city was originally meant to be a hidden palace theme for sonic mania. And he later on used the unfinished theme to create lagoon city act 2
I'm like 99% sure the Unused theme from Sonic 3 wasn't the Super theme, but something else, as even in the Prototype where it existed it was unused and they had Jun Senoue compose a brand new theme for Origins instead of just using what they had
13:10 hey wait this was used as Blaze's appearance theme, but I remember it best as the course finish jingle for the Casino Park courses in Sonic & Segal All Stars Racing
Listening to the section on Sonic Superstars rn and going "what on earth is bro on about?!?!" As @/terionic already correctly pointed out in the comment section, YM2612 is not a VST plugin, but the sound chip that the original SEGA Genesis used to produce sound. Another thing, Jun Senoue did not make the final version of Cyber Station Zone. That was another musician named TORIENA. Senoue also does this with Tee Lopes for a good lot of the Sonic Superstars OST, namely the Title Screen, Bridge Station Zone Act 1, the Invincibility music, and the Super Sonic theme.
A fun fact about sonic 3's music. The sonic & knuckles album released in 1994 has an extended version of lava reef that NOBODY talls about, it basically adds a proper end to the song after the bridge before loopong and I think it sou ds neat... And a bonus fact about sonic forces, red gate bridge (the song that plays for 3 seconds before fighting metal sonic) was an early demo track created for sonic forces to get a feel for how the games music was gonna sound. I find it interesting they put it in the game and on the games soundtrack, despite the fact it has no business being there. Maybe ohtani just really liked it.
For Sonic CD, it is theorised that the Bad Future theme for the lost R2 level Dubious Depths is heard in a remixed form on the track ‘Techno Power Remix’ from the Sonic Remix album that ‘Sonic Stream’ is from
@@shaulov10 To each their own, but I think the mystery surrounding Hidden Palace in S2 is what gave so much weight to when we actually got it in S3&K :)
I use most of them for Vaporwave. Good stuff. That background pad in the unused Hover for Colour is a preset on NI Massive called “Trap” down the Chord tab. Was shocked to find it there.
Some mistakes: 1) Sonic 1 8-bit has more unused themes. Theyre not in game, but can be found in composer archives (and also uploaded in RUclips); 2) MCZ 2p WAS MEANT TO BE USED IN HPZ. It was switched to Track$10 in final to just give a unique tracks to 2p mode. It at all wasnt meant to be a complete zone theme, just listen to Demo version! Now live with this, go cry :p; 3) Also Sonic Remix album has "Technopower mix" that contain possible R2 (Dubious Depths) bad future mix; 4) 3D Blast has several unused tracks, as well 8-bit Sonic games. Otherwise, video is not bad 👍
The first few seconds of Leaf Storm beta music was used in the "Enemy or Friend" jingle in Sonic Rush which then was used in Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing
For the Egg Reverie Pinch, I always assumed it was meant to be used for when you're low on rings. There have definitely been times in that fight where I ran out of rings from being hit too much.
I actually nearly game over'd on that boss while playing on No Save mode (I was doing a Knuckles and Knuckles run), but thankfully, I was able to clutch it out.
Yeah, I always thought egg reverie pinch was gonna be a low ring song, like how in doomsday in S3&K the song speeds up when you get 10 and under rings, but it’s just a theory
Quite a big thing you missed is that there were a few more unused songs for Sonic 1 8-bit that didn't even get leftover in the final release. They can be found on TRCF and were released by Yuzo Koshiro in a music collection years back. Some of the tracks were boss or stage specific or were meant for the map screen it's self.
11:21 in the non-album version of the song found by the user ''AlSeg'', according to the lead vocalist (Mike Szuter) comment, it was Jun Senoue who rejected ''who I am'', at first Mike was contacted and then he immediately made ''who I am''. When Mike met with Jun, Jun rejected the song since he wanted to make the song together, which in the end would result in ''I am... all of me''
The 2 Player songs from Sonic 2 were very likely used for the other cut zones. For example, Emerald Hill 2 Player would have been the cut Tropical Plant level and originally Oil Ocean's theme would have been Casino Night 2 Player music before it was changed. The Oil Ocean theme was originally going to be used for the cut Sand Shower level. Also I'm pretty sure Sky Chase music would have been used for the cut Rock World level. Another channel called Collision Chaos Radio made a video about that, I highly recommend it
With shadow the hedgehog there’s actually eight songs that went unused and most people don’t know about it. The songs were. All of me, broken, tick, overshadowed, overcomplicated, break me, falling out, and who I am with who I am being made by magna fi and the rest being made by sins of a divine mother
I know, but a lot of them got scrapped because of the band departing in curse words and just overall like the game getting a lower rating because originally it was going to be M rated then it went to teen then 10+ but with all these songs, you could only question how dark was the game gonna be because a lot of these songs talk about suicide, murder, and a whole lot of dark stuff I recommend you do a reaction to those songs and maybe record it so more people know about it
I thought the 2013 remaster of Sonic 2 used the 2P Mystic Cave music for Hidden Palace because they thought it fit the tone of the stage, specifically the remaster's take on it.
That and because nearly all the betas use it. Plus going by the August and September prototypes,it most likely was the zone’s actual theme rather than a placeholder like people used to say.
Great video! I'm not sure if its well known or not but that Sonic Advanced 2 song you mentioned was used in the Sonic Advanced 2 trailer that was featured in Sonic Mega Collection :)
Pretty good video, but I'd like to point out a few of the tracks you may have missed. - Sonic 1 MS/GG has a few more unused tracks and jingles, like "Dash! Jump! Spin! Attack!" and "Let's Have a Break". Sonic 2's 8-bit version has a few as well. - Sonic Chaos has some very early versions of tracks present in the final game, except for one which was later reused for Sunset Park Zone Act 3. - Sonic Spinball has several unused themes. The title, jingles, and game over theme were all originally based on Sonic 1's title theme. Very late into development, they learned that they didn't have the rights to use Sonic 1's music, so the tracks were completely remade last-minute. There's also an unused version of The Machine. - Sonic 3D Blast has an unused special stage jingle. Not just the one that was later used for Pleasure Castle, but another much shorter theme. - Sonic Adventure has an unused 1-up jingle, and another untitled unused jingle. The unused 1-up was remixed to be used in Generations, but was scrapped again. - There's another unused Shadow the Hedgehog song called "All Of Me". Not to be confused with the Crush40 song. This one was also by Sins Of A Divine Mother. - Sonic Mania had another unused track, which later became Lagoon City Zone Act 2, according to Tee Lopes. - Sonic Superstars has WAY more beta tracks and earlier versions than just Cyber Station Zone. Almost all of them are present within the game's files. As for completely unused songs, you missed Press Factory Act Fruit, which has a completely different beta version. - And lastly, these two might not fit as much. Sonic X-treme and Sonic Chronicles. Sonic X-treme has a MASSIVE conceptual soundtrack made by the director, Chris Senn. There weren't any tracks made for the final game, however. Sonic Chronicles had an original soundtrack which was almost completely lost due to copyright. As a result, they resorted to using fanmade MIDI's of older Sonic songs, which led to the final soundtrack that the game is so infamous for. The original, intended OST for the game is still mostly lost. I likely still missed a few, but that's most of them that I remember.
*With that thumbnail I was hoping you’d talk about Sonic Boom. An album that has not only Spinball remixes, but enhanced versions of select tracks from the Sonic CD US Soundtrack!*
I found this video to be very thorough, however I wanted to add a few extra tracks and fun facts you may like to know about down here. 1:19 While Marble Zone was the only unused theme in Sonic 1 SMS, years later Yuzo Koshiro (the composer for the 8-bit version) released an “Early Collection Box” that had 5 more unused tracks from this game. ruclips.net/p/PL37TwLBv1l-RlmwMnmWhXwHj8-Ti2Z_4t&si=yfHohCsMy81xzyD5 1:29 I wanted to also mention that the 8-Bit version of Sonic 2 also had two unused tracks. The first was used in the Game Gear Auto Demo (which was basically just early gameplay footage) ruclips.net/video/rr1Rgx-jEiw/видео.htmlsi=r320wOv6NZytizDu, which I believe to be an early version of Underground Zone. The second goes unused in the final game, which is possibly an earlier version of Crystal Egg Zone. ruclips.net/video/jFyKpKDFQLU/видео.htmlsi=cgCReMoaIdLFkkLm 3:40 There were actually three. The third was the Techno Power Mix found on that same album. ruclips.net/video/77gzjr2-5Ts/видео.htmlsi=VrNzUal-9yC4usrZ At around 3:19, you can hear D.A. Garden’s bassline. 4:48 Believe it or not, this IS a remix of “You Can Do Anything,” it’s just a different section of the song. ruclips.net/video/MxorAJxDdpk/видео.htmlsi=ZpAFX0Bn_sQN6QjI Check around 0:39 and you can hear a similar sounding melody. 6:15 Imo, it’s not that sh!tty when you listen to it the right way. I’d recommend this playlist, which I believe used a Roland SC-55 MIDI rather than the General MIDI or GOD FORBID the FM Synthesizer. ruclips.net/p/PLT1G6yIo2msGZHFdSv-BF1ysPGC-etdUJ&si=ZOBEfaDz1HXNKsrg 7:23 The final game’s Ice Cap has one of the longest loops, believe it or not. While the prototype’s themes are around a minute long, final Ice Cap’s Act 1 is around 1:23 and Act 2 is the longest music loop in the entire game, at a whopping 1:37. If it sounds shorter, I don’t blame you, but if you listen closely, you’ll notice the difference. 8:13 That’s partially because both Proto Carnival Night and Launch Base’s Act 2 themes were likely arranged by the same person, Masayuki Nagao. He was responsible for Hydrocity Act 2’s arrangement, which uses a lot of the same instruments. 8:35 Stranger in Moscow was actually a remix of Sonic 3’s Staff Credits, which was composed by Brad Buxer for Sonic 3 before being reworked by him and Jackson. Brad unfortunately never received credit for his work, which is a shame and should absolutely be remedied. 15:08 There was also an unused Credits theme that was completely different from “Guided Tour,” the one heard in the final game. ruclips.net/video/P3gQ6ot46lE/видео.htmlsi=nvpU3cHt7aASzXpq 15:56 There was another version that was arranged by TORIENA that was much more similar to Jun’s original version before she rearranged it for the final game. ruclips.net/video/CGpj603i1sY/видео.htmlsi=TwTCQqyN12OnAA4P 16:55 While the Special Stage theme was changed, there were three others that were also scrapped. The first was a “Mini Game Clear” jingle, which was composed by Jun and surprisingly made its way onto the Spotify release of the OST. ruclips.net/video/bispOc-fpC4/видео.htmlsi=uBZLrcdtTwVvM74Y The second and third weren’t as lucky. The first was a much more cheerful theme for Press Factory Act Fruit. ruclips.net/video/bnT6q2vAmKA/видео.htmlsi=zo3VDDCgMGwyHynM The other one was a completely different Super Sonic theme that was originally composed by Jun before being rearranged by Tee Lopes. ruclips.net/video/4TE4tXmwlaE/видео.htmlsi=_Y8AUnn2Yzk-L79B Like I said, this was a really great and thorough video and I hope to see more content like this from you in the future. :)
I had to listen to both Broken & Who I Am, and I think Who I Am makes a lot sense to be in the game, considering that almost every ending is just Shadow monologging, by saying “My Name is Shadow the Hedgehog. *monologue*__________________ This is Who I Am”.
One track that wasn't brought up that I've always loved is the Xbox beta version of Lost Jungle for Sonic Heroes, where it has a completely different vibe from the final version! It's at a slightly slower tempo, and instead of the oppressive electronic main melody, it has a peaceful and beautiful flute melody! Def recommend listening to it if you haven't, along with the full Xbox and 10.8 beta OSTs if you can still find them! (I've had them downloaded for a few years now, don't quite remember where I got them from though XDDD)
the Leaf Storm beta track is actually still in the final game, it plays when Blaze shows up after the first boss so i'm guessing the Hideki Naganuma collab was a bit later into the game's development
Advance 3's track is for an unused hub world for Altar Emerald(aka final boss)but the track got unused as Altar Emerald is just one act which is the final boss(not the extra but u can acces the extra by collecting all 7 chaos emeralds)
For me the unused track in sonic 3 isn't a unused super theme, rather a unused result screen theme for 2 reasons, first looking at sonic 2 it also uses a different track for it's 2 player mode only heared there and since the final game uses the continue/ get blue spheres jinge, it wold make sense that at one point it had a unique theme for it and second, looking at the way the prior games used it's invincibility themes, it (mostly) allways had something to do with it's main theme like sonic 1 and in the case of super sonic, yeah you only had sonic 2 but in there the super theme also had something to do with it's main theme wich the unused theme has nothing to with the main theme. yeah you COULD argue that they wanted to try out something different and while yes i can see it, it makes no sense in the long run since even sonic 4 and mania did the sonic 2 approach and it took 28 years untill we actually got an actuall super theme for 3&k with origins. (And thats might be a big hot take but, it's a way better super theme than the unused track is even though the drums make no sense)
That prototype version of leaf storm's theme was actually used in a trailer for sonic advance 2 that was included on the original version of sonic mega collection
Here's something you missed: There's a prototype for Sonic Chaos on the Master System (known as the 630 Prototype) discovered back in 2019, which features mostly "work-in-progress" versions of most of the game's music. More notably though, there's two tracks that are entirely different, namely Aqua Planet, which sounds like a derivative of Sonic 2's Sky High zone music, and Sleeping Egg Zone, which is an almost entirely straight cover of a song called "I'm About You" by "The System".
Magna-Fi were kinda cooking with the whole "Who I Am is too good for the game" take, I can't think of a single song in the game that's on its level except for *maybe* Chosen One and Never Turn Back. The album it's from, Verse Chorus Kill Me, is actually great overall and I'd recommend to everyone that's only heard All Hail Shadow from them.
I remember hearing those launch base zone tracks on the cd rom pc version of Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and being annoyed that it wasn't the version from the Sega Genesis
The fact that Sonic Superstars has some Unused Musics are left over from the Files interestingly the Music are way too similar how he does in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Vibes, however there's Placeholder music of vs Metal Sonic and Death Egg.mkll act 1 music are left over from Sonic 4 ep 2
Sonic 3D Blast had one too it was the beta Knuckles Special Stage theme it was later used in Sonic Adventure as Pleasure Castle from the level Twinkle Park
Nice video! One thing: Jun Senoue DID use both ym2612 and Xpand!2 in the final release, but the example you showed of it is bad, because Jun didn't work on the final version of Cyberstation. Also, ym2612 is the chip that was used for sonic games on Genesis, so Jun used it to make more Genesis-like songs, not more realistic ones :/
You missed the unused music for Sonic the Fighters! A bunch of stuff went unused like the music that was supposedly made for Honey’s stage (Sunset Town), Eggman’s original stage theme (Hurry Up!), and a song so obscure that it didn’t even appear on the OST CD!
Unironically, if MagnaFi had accepted segas deal, their band could be saved - instead the band died and all they got was a lousy edgy song in their dying album. It sucks because I really like MagnaFi. On that note, I also LOVE Broken from Sins of a divine mother; I wish they had made more music than they did.
Now Imagine if it has a South American Version of Sonic Remix Album? and Other, it has a Theory of some Different Themes of R2 that it's Unofficial and is called "Relic Ruins". behind of this, Back in 1991, there's a Singer that is called Alex Lee and He is the One that made the Music "Take It!" to be Way more Look-a-Like than on the Original Sonic CD Game, but it has some Different Remixes of the Song "Take It!" that is "Other People's Money" or the Extended Version as the Past Theme, "Mr. Oz vs. Kleptomaniacs" or the Techno Version as the Bad Future Theme & "the Hot Sauce Mix" or "Other People's Money" (Again) as the Good Future Theme.
11:33 Where did you get this information? It actually hasn't been confirmed Who I Am was going to be featured whatsoever. Sure, the name tracks, and the artist also worked on a track from Shadow, but we have no proof it was ever going to even be featured in the game. This story you just told is really interesting and I would like you to state your source on it.
I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but there's an unused song in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 that is never ackwnoledged at all. It's known as "Unused" and is found in S&K Collection. It sounds like a Super Theme a lot.
I can't believe you missed out on the CD R2 lore We have not one, but two official names for the zone The earlier one was Ridicule Root And the later one was Dubious Depths Also there is what is believed to be a part of the Bad Future mix in another track of the same album where Sonic Stream is (forgot the exact name of the track but it has a bunch of Bad Future-like mixes)
The song techno power mix on the Sonic Remix album actually has bits of dubious depths bad Future theme if you listen to certain parts of it they sound like an evil version of the present theme
erm… akshually… 3D Blast’s early beta build used a different boss theme… later seen in the greatest work of media ever created slopnic the hedgehog 4 episode 1 although with different instruments… Seriously great video, always confused me why proto palace used the track found in the final build and hidden palace in 2013 used the beta track

You also forgot to metion that the song "Techno Power Mix" from the Sonic Remix album has a small snippit of what we assume is Doubious Depths Bad Future track remixed
sonic 1 8 bit has more unused songs. and techno power mix from the sonic remix album has a remix of R2’s bad future theme aswell it was confirmed by one of CD’s composers
I think that the sonic rush soundtrack was going to be like the advance and that leaf storm beta theme is just a longer version of the blaze appear theme
Small correction: Yes, there were other tracks made for Dubious Depths, but said tracks are considered currently lost. The remixes shown off also don't seem to be the original songs either.
11:40 This wasn't the reason at all. Mike Szuter (the vocalist) explained that there was every intention to use Who I Am in the game, but Jun Senoue expressed desire to record a brand new track with the band together, which would eventually become All Hail Shadow.
Another small note: It seems for the Sonic 3 section you used the unofficial remastered tracks rather than the original ones. One way I was able to tell was the fact that Ice Cap 1 has drums in the version you posted. In the original version, it does not.

The unused green hover wisp was a remnant of a scrapped multiplayer mode in gameland.
Sonic Triple Trouble 16 bit is a fan game, so it's not official
@@maricthehedgehog They didn't say that 16-bit TT was official; just that it used the unused theme.
Everybody’s talking about the disk drive animation not being correct but the xbox one loads disks in pretty much the same way
I gotta add. Recently tee lopes showed that a less detailed version of lagoon city was originally meant to be a hidden palace theme for sonic mania. And he later on used the unfinished theme to create lagoon city act 2
You forgot the Unused Knuckles Bonus stage theme from Sonic 3D Blast Demo Tracks that was later reused for Pleasure Castle for Sonic Adventure
Bro I forgot about it 😭
I'm like 99% sure the Unused theme from Sonic 3 wasn't the Super theme, but something else, as even in the Prototype where it existed it was unused and they had Jun Senoue compose a brand new theme for Origins instead of just using what they had

As @/terionic already correctly pointed out in the comment section, YM2612 is not a VST plugin, but the sound chip that the original SEGA Genesis used to produce sound.

For Sonic CD, it is theorised that the Bad Future theme for the lost R2 level Dubious Depths is heard in a remixed form on the track ‘Techno Power Remix’ from the Sonic Remix album that ‘Sonic Stream’ is from
BRO I SAID THIS IN MY LOST LEVELS VID BUT SOME SMART ASS SAID IT WAS FAKE. Never trusting the comments again 😔
I'm kinda glad we didn't get Hidden Palace in S2 actually. The vibe in S3&K is MUCH better IMO
We could have had both but I prefer sonic 2s better. I just like the vibe more
@@shaulov10 To each their own, but I think the mystery surrounding Hidden Palace in S2 is what gave so much weight to when we actually got it in S3&K :)
15:33 this track as well as boss one were rearranged by one of Frontiers composers in final version. Credits due
iirc TORIENA was not one of the artists that contributed to Frontiers. Maybe you're thinking of their work on Team Sonic Racing?
I use most of them for Vaporwave. Good stuff.
That background pad in the unused Hover for Colour is a preset on NI Massive called “Trap” down the Chord tab. Was shocked to find it there.
Some mistakes:
1) Sonic 1 8-bit has more unused themes. Theyre not in game, but can be found in composer archives (and also uploaded in RUclips);
2) MCZ 2p WAS MEANT TO BE USED IN HPZ. It was switched to Track$10 in final to just give a unique tracks to 2p mode. It at all wasnt meant to be a complete zone theme, just listen to Demo version! Now live with this, go cry :p;
3) Also Sonic Remix album has "Technopower mix" that contain possible R2 (Dubious Depths) bad future mix;
4) 3D Blast has several unused tracks, as well 8-bit Sonic games.
Otherwise, video is not bad 👍
The first few seconds of Leaf Storm beta music was used in the "Enemy or Friend" jingle in Sonic Rush which then was used in Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing
There were also a bunch of unused 3D Blast tracks, but thankfully they were brought back in Sonic Adventure.
There was only one mainly unused one.
Yeah
Bro…. How do I keep missing this type of stuff
I remember the early Leaf Forest song being used in the Sonic Advance 2 teaser video in Sonic Mega Collection. So much nostalgia!
Bro that’s a WHOLE ALBUM just gone unused
I know, but a lot of them got scrapped because of the band departing in curse words and just overall like the game getting a lower rating because originally it was going to be M rated then it went to teen then 10+ but with all these songs, you could only question how dark was the game gonna be because a lot of these songs talk about suicide, murder, and a whole lot of dark stuff I recommend you do a reaction to those songs and maybe record it so more people know about it
@@EzBeeZerKWe could’ve had a T rated or M rated Shadow game. That would’ve been so cool.

it might be an extended jingle but it stands on its own imho
I thought the 2013 remaster of Sonic 2 used the 2P Mystic Cave music for Hidden Palace because they thought it fit the tone of the stage, specifically the remaster's take on it.
That and because nearly all the betas use it. Plus going by the August and September prototypes,it most likely was the zone’s actual theme rather than a placeholder like people used to say.
Great video! I'm not sure if its well known or not but that Sonic Advanced 2 song you mentioned was used in the Sonic Advanced 2 trailer that was featured in Sonic Mega Collection :)
Yeah I heard about it a bit after posting the vid so that’s pretty cool
One of my favorite unusued songs that you didn't cover is the beta track for Apatos in Sonic Unleashed that was slightly altered from the E3 demo
*With that thumbnail I was hoping you’d talk about Sonic Boom. An album that has not only Spinball remixes, but enhanced versions of select tracks from the Sonic CD US Soundtrack!*
Maybe I’ll do sonic OST Reviews one day
I found this video to be very thorough, however I wanted to add a few extra tracks and fun facts you may like to know about down here.
1:19 While Marble Zone was the only unused theme in Sonic 1 SMS, years later Yuzo Koshiro (the composer for the 8-bit version) released an “Early Collection Box” that had 5 more unused tracks from this game. ruclips.net/p/PL37TwLBv1l-RlmwMnmWhXwHj8-Ti2Z_4t&si=yfHohCsMy81xzyD5
1:29 I wanted to also mention that the 8-Bit version of Sonic 2 also had two unused tracks. The first was used in the Game Gear Auto Demo (which was basically just early gameplay footage) ruclips.net/video/rr1Rgx-jEiw/видео.htmlsi=r320wOv6NZytizDu, which I believe to be an early version of Underground Zone. The second goes unused in the final game, which is possibly an earlier version of Crystal Egg Zone. ruclips.net/video/jFyKpKDFQLU/видео.htmlsi=cgCReMoaIdLFkkLm
3:40 There were actually three.
I’d recommend this playlist, which I believe used a Roland SC-55 MIDI rather than the General MIDI or GOD FORBID the FM Synthesizer. ruclips.net/p/PLT1G6yIo2msGZHFdSv-BF1ysPGC-etdUJ&si=ZOBEfaDz1HXNKsrg
7:23 The final game’s Ice Cap has one of the longest loops, believe it or not.
15:08 There was also an unused Credits theme that was completely different from “Guided Tour,” the one heard in the final game. ruclips.net/video/P3gQ6ot46lE/видео.htmlsi=nvpU3cHt7aASzXpq
15:56 There was another version that was arranged by TORIENA that was much more similar to Jun’s original version before she rearranged it for the final game. ruclips.net/video/CGpj603i1sY/видео.htmlsi=TwTCQqyN12OnAA4P
16:55 While the Special Stage theme was changed, there were three others that were also scrapped. The first was a much more cheerful theme for Press Factory Act Fruit. ruclips.net/video/bnT6q2vAmKA/видео.htmlsi=zo3VDDCgMGwyHynM The other one was a completely different Super Sonic theme that was originally composed by Jun before being rearranged by Tee Lopes. ruclips.net/video/4TE4tXmwlaE/видео.htmlsi=_Y8AUnn2Yzk-L79B
Like I said, this was a really great and thorough video and I hope to see more content like this from you in the future.
(I've had them downloaded for a few years now, don't quite remember where I got them from though XDDD)
the Leaf Storm beta track is actually still in the final game, it plays when Blaze shows up after the first boss
so i'm guessing the Hideki Naganuma collab was a bit later into the game's development

Magna-Fi was so underrated while they were still around
I know they also made all hail shadow so I guess there alright
Garbage take imo
Sonic 2 8-bit and Sonic Chaos have several unused music tracks found in prototypes.
Cool video but I was kinda hoping to see the unused remix of Sonic 1's title theme in Sonic Spinball during the lightning round.

17:04 This just gives me Dreams of an Absolution vibes.
