- Today, music is ubiquitous, but it wasn't always that way. During the Cold War, in the Soviet Union, the only way you could listen to western music was on X-Ray.

I thought you meant Georgia the state at first, that was confusing.
We had many x-rays vibyls
If I remember correctly, when the USSR opened to western music they mainly did so towards Italian music, as they were a western nation but still had a major communist party in the parliament. For this reason, even today, Italian music is well known in Russia, much more than it is in other western countries, and Italian singers from the last century are still considered huge stars there.
Very interesting!
Dude, you deserve everything and more. The amount of work you put into your videos never seizes to amaze me and I am just in awe of the quality of everything you do. I applaud you 👏👏
Thank you very much :)
Never ‘ceases’ to amaze me
You deserve way more subs ! Great job mate !
My dad literally used to do this. He would sneak around with his friends and rock out.
This would make a great movie
Really excellent video.
It really is so cool!
I'm so early, the quality is still 240p!
Why do they always use the sneezing picture!
Where there's a will there's a way!
Love this channel, so fucking good
I am henceforth making it my mission to make this into a movie.
That intro was simultaneously fascinating and unbearable to listen to; Sgt. Pepper's past his shelf life, I think.
Amazing video.
1080p in 6 minutes? what is this sorcery??!!?!?

The Soviet Union should come back today and ban Fortnite.
I would have expected a nice collab with Sam Sutherland of This Exists about this... weird analog support 🤔💀🎶😅😅
Jokes apart: veeeeeeeeeeeeery interesting
Calling Sam......
Not Exactly Normal now I'm absolutely curious 😍👍
Great video, but of all the players to use...a Crosley? Truly a sin.
I was warned of that before I shot. A DJ friend of mine said they had a very light needle, which I thought would be good for these records actually. One of them peeled a bit while playing!
@@dylandubeau you're very much right with the lightness of the needle, I'm just a massive snob when it comes to hardware
So Dashlane is now like a VPN? Interesting.
Edit: I just tried it. Can't seem to figure out how to get it to work and when i contacted their customer support they said they don't have VPN service wtf.
They do! I think the vpn is a premium feature, so you have to pay for it.
If you open the app, in the tool bar along the top there is a drop down for the vpn. Hope that helps.
@@dylandubeau Well that joke failed. Turns out they actually do have a VPN... who would have guessed.
Although apparently they don't allow basic things such as location choosing but surprisingly (say) they don't keep logs and even allow P2P O.o.
Also for some reason they don't talk about having auto connect, type of encryption, encryption settings, or really any basic settings?
why the low quality?
Joakim1400 this video is very recently uploaded, it takes youtube a while to get you 1080p ready. so it gets 240p first.
Oops! I hit publish before it got the 1080p loaded. Oh well.
@@therealbobmayo5065 Didn't know that. Thanks!
@@dylandubeau The video is otherwise fantastic!
And then you go and ruin it by playing it on a crosley cruiser. oof.
Hahaha I'm not a vynil guy, but a friend of mine did warn me about it. What's the deal with them?
@@dylandubeau Crosley and other cheaper record players lack what's called a "counterweight" which prevents the stylus from digging too hard into the grooves of your record. Over time this can lead to irreversible groove damage, so Crosley and the like have become dispised by the vinyl community. That being said, these x ray records probably need more tracking force to hear anything out of so perhaps it wasn't so bad to use the Crosley in this instance. Additionally, the Crosley has a 78rpm function where most record players that have that function tend to be over 200 USD
I feel like the reason these records sounded as bad as they did is because you did play them on a Crosley :/

It's a shame that the older generations always look down on and disparage the young.
And the way older generations fail to see their own faults before throwing stones at the younger generations. *cough*baby*cough*boomers*cough* *cough* *cough*
After listening to the terrible X-ray versions on this video, i had to find the actual 'Sympathy for the Devil' and 'Fun, fun, fun' to listen to .
