    One thing that is extremely annoying about this whole thing is how people keep bringing up that Anna isn’t German, she’s “Russian”. Like, she was born in Russia but her passport is legitimately German. She’s not pretending to be a *German* heiress she’s pretending to be an heiress. She really is German.

    • @katjakiller9687
      @katjakiller9687 2 года назад +33

      Well that might be correct, personally when somebody's asking me where I'm from I'm answering Romania, even i left there when I was 9, even if I have 2 different id's, based on the fact that I was born there and both my father and mother are from there and that's the first language that I learned, I can see why people feel the need to argue that she's not German and its not really wrong either it's kinda of a blurry line, but at least we know for sure that she's not a heiress😂

      Yeah i think people will always refer to you based on your origin, not your Citizenship, which i think is also unfair and in her family's context, is quite xenophobic. I think the Netflix show addressed that also when uncovering Anna's family background in Germany. How she and her family was never really considered "German" in the German society because they are Russian immigrants.

    Here’s the thing, I see so many people on here attacking Rachel but what if you were in her situation? You had a friend who invited you on a trip overseas and said that you don’t need to pay for anything. Perhaps you even insisted on paying for your own expenses but your friend said that they wouldn’t take your money. Then they proceed to scam you into paying for the whole thing. How would you feel? It’s like someone inviting you to dinner and then scams you into paying for the whole meal rather than just what you ate and they ordered the most expensive thing on the menu. Was Rachel silly and trusting? Yes. Did she deserve what happened to her? Absolutely not.
    Anna is a sociopath.

Accepting someone's unsolicited offers to buy you things does not entitle that person to scam you and it doesn't absolve any conning. If you're getting your info from 'Inventing Anna' then keep in mind that Netflix's primary motivation with the series was to entertain rather than inform, and several people directly connected with the Sorokin case have contradicted Rachel's portrayal in the show. A cynic might also point out that Rachel sold her story to HBO rather than Netflix so the latter might have an axe to grind! At the very least let's agree that Hollywood has a terrible reputation when it comes to historical accuracy.

In actuality the debt was forgiven months after the trial ended.
      It's obvious that they wanted to cast Anna in a semi-positive light and therefore needed a semi-villain in the form of Rachel. I'm also disgusted at how Anna is using the show to launch a career and Netflix seems to be aiding her in that. Why does America worship con artists so much?

      I disagree. I followed this case from the start and I sincerely believe Anna was just waiting for her Fortress loan to be funded (and was being string along by them for several weeks after first being told she was approved, before backtracking and needing to do more "due diligence"). I believe Anna would have paid all her currently outstanding debts in full had that funding come through as our finally promised.
      Yet she clearly knew she didn't have the money for the Morocco trip up front, but she was in a bind with needing to leave her current hotel and get her travel passport/visa stamped elsewhere, but she was being told her loan was approved and would be funded any day now, so she likely didn't see any harm in having Rachel cover expenses in the short term.
      That said, I don't think she feels bad about what she did to Rachel AT ALL...and she would have covered her debts if funded - NOT because it was the right thing to do - but rather because she didn't want anyone to ever think she couldn't pay, or that she was poor.
      She would rather be seen as careless or ditzy, and so was okay with making excuses and playing that part because it would be better to be ditzy than poor/struggling.

    So weird! These days you don‘t ‚go to‘ or ‚talk to‘ your bank in order to transfer money. And you don’t do Morocco without a single penny in your pocket. So it should‘ve been pretty obvious from early on that there‘s nothing to be had.

      plus the fact that every card she tried to use anywhere straight up did not work, she says that she never told anyone she was wealthy and everyone around just thought she was. she put bills off by saying there would be a wire transfer, she would tip every hotel employee with 100s. Looks like the money was just blinding everyone. no one questioned it at all because it was just beneficial to them.
