I was born in 1956 and before phones I read books and comics and magazines when I was on a bus or waiting for something- I watched tv a lot - I listened to my transistor radio - I read the newspaper- I did crosswords - I watched sports and obsessed over stats and cards. there were plenty of distractions before phones. Before phones people weren’t somehow always aware of their thoughts and surroundings.

"Most of my life was not these stand-out moments."
When I was a teenager (a thousand centuries ago) my grandmother told me that when people are young they want ecstasy...and when they are old they want peace.
And I answered..."Isn't peace just an absence of energy???"
This is still the immature understanding of awakening...that it must be boring because its peaceful.

I needed this video today, thank you. Although it must be said, I listened to it when I was doing some cleaning at which point I realized I should be doing the cleaning not listening to an entertaining and good video about being mindful in an ordinary situation… like cleaning. Anyway, thanks! ;-)

My teacher said once that unless Mindfulness, like every other Buddhist principle, isn’t underpinned by compassion , then it isn’t the real deal baby. Hey they teach Mindfulness to US military snipers…….

My second comment got cancelled too! I guess I am getting bullied. But! I myself could never be a sniper, Thank God. Yet, I am grateful for those in Ukraine who can do that, AND keep their humanity. If the madness is not opposed, it will overtake all of Europe, including all the zen monasteries there...

There’s a song by Arcade Fire called ‘We Used to Wait’. It’s quite relevant to this vid. Good song, too.

I also held out for as long as possible and I use it to, unskillfully at times but at least I am mindful that I am being unskillful when it happens. It is an addiction. I have been putting it away at night and letting it charge downstairs so I get at least 12 hours break every day. I experienced withdrawals at first. We are being killed by comfort and convenience. Every moment of my life, where I lived it mindfully, have all been the best moments, the crazy thing is: each time I practice best is outdone by better, again and again. It's amazing.

I made dinner the other night with mindfulness, simple macaroni and broccoli, 4 ingredients used mindfully created "the best dinner ever" according to my partner. Each time I cook us something with mindfulness it is always "the best ____ ever"

the world is now far more crowded, on the premise that people will be on their phones, so we can pack more of them together in what would earlier be considered coffin size prisons. this increased density makes each square foot more profitable

Hi , thanks for the video, enjoyed it and did miss you reading and elaborating on Dogen’s scripts…
And I wanted to share that I feel that the practice of smartphone self hypnosis also have a gravitational pull as a way to avoid the low flaying anxiety I/we tend to accumulate ( and than meet when I sit ) the more we accumulate, the stronger is the aversion towards everyday mindfulness and the attraction toward self hypnosis… on that I would say that keeping my anxiety closet clean and ventilated is also part of everyday mindfulness.

i had no option but to be with my self
    i disliked my self
    but over time
i realised i could not eradicate
    my self
no matter how hard i tried
    so now
me myself and i are all
    stuck together
    against our wills

The High Plains break up into washed-out and gullied hills. It is all bright whitish tan. Not a blade of grass anywhere. Just scattered weed stalks and rocks and sand. The black of the highway is a relief to look at so I stare down at it and study how the blur whizzes by
underfoot. Beside it I see the left exhaust pipe has picked up a bluer color than it has ever had before. I spit on my glove tips, touch it and can see the sizzle. Not good.
It’s important now to just live with this and not fight it mentally-mind control -- .

While listening this video I ate bread and olives, drank soda, and browsed two different web pages at the same time. But what if I was mindful of all of it. When multitasking, just multitask. Which zen master said that?

@@garad123456 yeah probably imitating, could be from the same region as well, so you get the same accents and mannerisms, so then you just end up doing it without knowing

Just fyi you can get an app that makes your smartphone behave like a dumb phone.
Not sure how useful it is in this age because a lot of us require smart phones just for day to day living.
You could turn it on for most of the time your phone will just be a thing you use to make calls or texts.
Then turn it off when it's time for business.
I'm trying to integrate tech in all things just because my brain is a little dumb and tends to forget important things regularly.
    Dates, appointments, tasks etc.
You can use the technology for great benefit if you can keep away from the more toxic things on the internet like the news, the comment section, social media etc.
Personally I think it's amazing for studying dharma and keeping notes.

It's mad that we've ended up in a world where we believe we 'require' our phones. Okay, they may have become almost indispensable, but it's that 'almost' that just (and only just) keeps them from being required. At the very worst , they could maybe lose us the odd relationship or job, at the very worst. That's how scarily close to being required they are, unfortunately though, I think we'll end up in full on requirement within my lifetime. Next stop, neural implants, nirvana on a chip... BuddhaMind OS.....
