When John concentrates on just making his music public, he is a phenomenal guitarist and musician --- but when he allows his private, personal matters and relationships to become public fodder --- his standing becomes tainted and tawdry! But recently now, he has squelched that . . . but now his music has suffered! Since Room for Squares, his sales have seen a continually decline. But I wish him nothing but luck and success. Cuz undoubtedly he's got skills!!!
I love John and i think he is a great artist along the lines of Dylan or Joni Mitchell. That being said, taste in art/music is subjective, and it's important that it's subjectivity is honored imho
Idk if you flipped a coin for using a/an but the coin betrayed ya m8. Your comment should read: “Hell of a guitarist.” Sorry to be the grammar gestapo! 🤦♂️
Had the privelege of watching JM play in Auckland NZ. He opened up doing a song with a maori performance group and it was amazing. His performance on the night was fkn amazing....JM you da man!....proud Kiwi!!!
The range of totally beautiful and grooving music he makes from his guitar during this performance... so rich; His rhythmic chops during the song are so locked in groove producing, and then he kicks in a pedal or two for some solos and it's so soulful. What a musical experience to have...
sounds much better than studio made, it's a kind of pity for me because I heard this song after over 10 years. But I still happy even if I have listened this song for 1000 time within 10 years. Every John's performance made a 'new song'😌
I like how John reveals the sources for some of his tunes...all great artists 'borrow' from their predecessors...I've done the same with Johns tunes...a little teak here and there and you make it your own...
I saw him on his 2010 world tour. Red Rocks was like the last stop. We saw him right before this at the Gorge at George when he was killing it, but his voice was pretty much shot by this show. Its not that he's "a bad singer". You all seem to forget that he did a full on World Tour only to find out shortly afterwards he had Vocal Granuloma. It was literally eating through his vocal chords.
Brett Funk If you feel that way about Mayer, why are you watching the video in the first place? Also, your a guitar instructor....and you're talking like that? Are you afraid he may be better than you or something? I feel bad for your students. You sound like the type of person that would teach them bad habits on purpose in fear of them becoming better players than yourself. The world needs less of people like you....
Mayer has Found his natural voice - im very impressed..he used to alter his voice while singing...This is how he should Sound as he is a big dude..now he Got that natural deeper tone down
@zaretix No. He streamed this concert live on uStream, then he left the video on there. You can catch it on his uStream account. The entire thing is on there.
If I might offer my opinion, it was almost certainly the former. By this stage in his career, (and well prior, in my opinion), his chord progressions were quite deliberate and informed by prior art. While I'm not intending to suggest the progression was "ripped" from Beast of Burden, I would say that he can 'hear' the familiarity in most of the things he was putting out during this time. Check out "BIllie Jean is Not My One Back Down" (John Mayer, RUclips).
+duke gdl I'm sure you are perfectly qualified to criticize this man who is making millions of dollars doing this, but in case you aren't, he probably likes to switch up playing the same songs over and over again
I swear john has two brains! Always giving his speeches while playing sofisticated guitar parts
Christian Montes Who else would use the word "therefore" in a pop-rock song chorus?
@@marcinjaskolski2824 it sounds like someone told him "I give you 5 bucks if you use the word therefore in a chorus" and then he did so
You forgot the third brain for dancing!
Mf has like 5 brains. Cause, don't forget, even when he's doing like 5 things at the same time, he excells in all of them.
John Mayer is an american treasure and anyone who disagrees doesn't have a clue what makes good music.
i reckon hes like Dylan and Hendrix put together. Hes got Bob's poetry and Jimi's guitar chops. So underrated.

No1 No1 how has his sales declined since his first album? So continuum sold less than room for squares? Its his undoubtedly his best album ever.
@@williamwilson6862 yet somehow he doesn't think it was his best and favourite album. He loved Born and Raised more than anything.

His "chopping" rhythm playing is so strong, so tight, so right... What a groove, what a musician; Thanks for the journey;;]
Spot on, my friend.
His percussive technique is amongst the best
Can’t believe I’ve never seen this. This is amazing. Love John man. The best guitarist of this generation in my opinion.
Just seeing it now. So happy I found it.
Keith Richards is the best song writer and guitarist of all generations.
you are insane@@TomKirkman1
RIP Robbie Robertson! Thanks for the music.
This is the most versatile performance of “Perfectly Lonely” that I’ve seen yet. Very impressed!
Hell of an guitarist.
Isaiah Johnson Hell of a musician.

how good must it feel when your chorus comes thru with all those harmonies and instruments playing and singing along to the song you wrote

unreal!
This intro rythm will be helpless
The way the drums comes in when he riffs in the beginning.....Thats what you call grooving out :D
This version is the best beast of burden cover I've ever heard
The range of totally beautiful and grooving music he makes from his guitar during this performance... so rich; His rhythmic chops during the song are so locked in groove producing, and then he kicks in a pedal or two for some solos and it's so soulful. What a musical experience to have...
The Carlton Dance to Best of Burden is adorable.
John's covers are fucking underrated, may he make more
one of best ways he has played this song
He’s so very musically talented! Love every one of his songs!!
sAW THIS IN PERSON... GREAT CONCERT...
Thanks John for helping me understand what masterful and well composed but also soulful music means....what a performance!
Red Rocks John Mayer is always bomb. Love it. Love him
He was clearly high&or drunk during this but he is playing guitar so effortlessly its incredible to watch . Also the dance moves are everything
Insane how these two songs mesh together
Saw him in Murray, Ky… it was a great show. Friend of mine working security said Jessica Simpson was backstage watching 😊
this is the besttt ever!! wow..thanks for sharing!! john ROCKSS!!
Wow it's my first time seeing him play a tele
nobody in the world wears a guitar like JOhn mayer !!!
He’s so amazing and Talented with his guitar I love his music, and Solos , I love John,Mayer his talent ❤❤❤

This is just EVERYTHING
A true master
But when it comes down to beast of burden
Well you know what I going to say!!
Can’t see the stones doing a cover of neon any time soon 😎
Early 70s Stones with Mick Taylor could do anything. Let me know when Mayer plays something as beautiful as "Time Waits For No One".
wow, that is the riff he reworked and used again for Helpless, right? the beginning riff?
Hmm... sounds like something out of Perfectly Lonely to me
john mayer just got really 80s for a minute, haha fuck yea
Dear This Comment^
When you are ten years old, you will also be amused of his whole new 80s album 🙏🏼☺️
I love john mayer.
If Eric Clapton says John Mayer is an excellent guitarist....then he is.
Mayer's a better player then clapton.
@@bluesenthused7244 agree!Mayor got better music sense than Clapton, or maybe just to me it is

What makes this song good is his backing band- they fuckin kill it on this version.
Is there a DVD from this gig?
Congratulations. You've just had the most civilised exchange in youtube history!
