I immediate love coach Steve as soon as he said he teaches the right footwork depending on the grip a player uses. I use western grip and couple of coaches I had didn't care about it and just taught me the generic technique. I actually learned a few western grip specific techniques on youtube videos like this one. Great vid, major props.

I use a western and can do the toe loop. It depends on the height of ball. Never got coached for it. Just occurred naturally. This is Fed's approach shot and he mastered it. It provides a better transition to the net. But I typically just use a vertical forehand.

Concerning the teaching: Very important technique to have down, as many ppl are uncomfortable approaching the net. I also have a full eastern like the coach and do both. On higher balls I do toe loop, on lower balls I usually do the other one. However, I love to come to the net and finish the rallye with one or two more volleys!
