    JD series 100 mowers have 3 points of connection to the frame -- one that pivots at the front center and two fixed at the back of the deck. By its vary design it will not cut level on slopes because of the lack of a second connection point at the front of the deck allows the mower to gouge the lawn on the lower side of the slope. Mowing at 4” highest setting makes it more noticeable.

    At 3:36 "... if you do end up hitting a rock or stump or some other protrusion..." That's just part of mowing my yard. LOL
    I got about two acres to mow. The previous owners didn't take care of the yard as the should. I got most of the rocks out, working on the stomps and leveling areas that scalp easy. That was a big help. Good info to know.
    Maybe someday I'll have that golf course yard like you do Courtney.

    Good video. Just started using my 60" deck on 1023e when Zero turn was in shop. No matter how high I adjust it by the knob, even at 4" it scalps the heck out of the grass. How might that be adjusted, the Turnbuckle type devices?

    Good reminder, I replaced my X738 blades recently. Besides being extremely dull one was bent. Yard looks much better now.
    I bag the grass around the house and take the bagger off to mow the lots out back. I do not change the adjustment even though It effects cut quality.

    When I raise and lower the deck, the left side stops where I got the height knob set, but the right side drops right to the ground. If ignore the knob and just set the height with the lever it sits level.

    I did all this on my D140. It's never cut even since the day I bought it and I've been fighting it for 9 years. It always leaves a slightly higher strip of grass right in the center of the path. I'll never buy another John Deere again. None of my neighbors or friends have this problem and they have everything except for John Deere.

    I watched with great attention as I recently spent a good hour dialing in my new 2025R. It was 1.5" off from the dealer. I did everything you highlighted here and found to get my mower deck level all the adjustments were near the center of the range except for the left turnbuckle and it had to be lengthened to almost it's end.

    • @richardcarlson112
      @richardcarlson112 2 года назад

      I saw a video displaying this and it was the blade is slightly unevenly sharpened from one end to the other so that one end of the same blade cuts lower than the other end by just a small amount, or the same effect would be there if the blade is bent a small amount.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  3 года назад +1

      No, there isn't much lift on them with all the "stuff" going on under the frame of the machine. If trying to keep it from being damaged when using the loader or 3 point, it's best to remove the deck altogether. Thanks for watching!

    Interesting that the front of the deck is supposed to be lower. Rotary brush cutters are also supposed to be lower in the front when properly adjusted, so I guess it shouldn't be surprising that mower decks are as well.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  3 года назад

      Yeah, makes sense. Just not positive of the reasoning.

    • @richardbadour1714
      @richardbadour1714 2 года назад +1

      Perhaps I can help with that! You want the front of the mower deck to be lower then the rear of the deck should you actually hit something with the deck it might bang on the front allowing you a chance to notice that you hit something…… instead of going over with the front and getting whatever tangled in the blades and rear of the deck!

    • @bpeters2
      @bpeters2 10 месяцев назад

      @@GoodWorksTractors The reason the front should always be lower than the rear is so that you only have to cut the grass once. If the front is higher than the rear, your blades will mow the grass once at the leading edge of the blade/deck and then have to cut it again on the back side of the blade/deck, using 2x the power.

    My deck on my D130 is all of a sudden 2” out of level left to right (discharge side is higher).
    You can see the one side hanging much lower even when the whole tractor appears level. All the mechanical linkages look symmetrical and I don’t see any bent connector bars, etc. No video seems to address this. Anyone have any ideas?

      You’re asymmetrically loading the hanging brackets suspending your deck. Not saying it’s gonna knock it out of alignment automatically, it just isn’t designed to take that load and that’s why the manufacturer calls it out.
