This was excellent and made a 100% difference in how my lawn looked. Night and Day. I never would have thought that leveling a deck would be so easy and fast.
Like the other guy said in the troubleshooting comments....these videos are what RUclips should be. Excellent instructions I know I can follow. I believe I can get the mower running good again. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this video, I finally have a great mow/er! No more Mohawks or lower mow on the right side. I could have saved $ by not purchasing the plastic tool used for blade leveling. Now I’m enjoying the chore!!
I enjoyed the video. I kind of saved some time when I leveled a deck. I cut TWO 2" blocks and marked them "side". I also cut ONE 1-13/16" block and marked it "front". No need to go back and lower the front. Just what I did.
I did it exactly to his video my tire pressures in the back are 10 psi The front 14 psi If that’s true take a measuring tape i measure from the garage concrete up. Along mower, blades deck where it supposed to be on 3 it’s 2 1/4 inches. ?What’s up with that measurement. Should be at 3 inches?
Great video, thumbs up and subscribed! My S120 was just delivered and sure enough the deck wasn't level. I read how to do it in the manual then found your video. Very helpful to watch you do it before I did mine. All went well and I like my new lawn tractor. I also have 1/2 acre and think the Series 100 line is the right fit. Thanks! And thank you for your many years of service. I joined the Army right after high school, 1966-69. Vietnam Vet 1968.
Excellent instruction. This is why YT was created, imo. Six years ago, I bought a D105 with only five hours run time on Craigslist. Guy and his family were moving across country into a condo and needed to get rid of it quickly. I gave him $900 for it. One of the best purchases I’ve made.
I just wanted to say thank you for making the john deere diy playlist. Thanks to your instructions and guidance, I've been able to get my s100 in fighting form for the mowing season. Thank you
By far the best RUclips channel on " HOW TO DO" on John Deere riding mowers!! I watched many videos on other channels, and 95% of those videos were garbage. Until I ran across this channel. This is my first "HOW TO DO" John Deere riding mower RUclips channel I ever SUBCRIBED too..
I love your videos because they are basic simple and direct and to the point ! When I see videos that are up to 20-30 minutes long and yours are only 5-7 minutes long achieving the exact same results, I know that the other videos are just someone babbling on and on incessantly...Have a Blessed week Amigo 👊😎✝️
Excellent video! I couldn’t find these instructions elsewhere, The 2” blocks were key. The one other thing I did was adjust the height of the small black wheels on the deck. They should be about 1/2” off the ground at cutting height.
Thanks for showing this. I didn’t know the front needs to be lowered. Also the floor needs to be flat. Most garages have a sloped to the front slightly.
Thanks for mentioning that last grease fitting. Your videos are so helpful. I didn’t know anything about my new (used) JD lawnmower before I started watching your video, and today I greased all the fittings, dropped the deck, pulled the old belt (ordered a new one), and sharpened the blades. Tomorrow I will redo the bearings so they can get grease. I think it’s lots of fun. Thanks, L100 Owner :))
This video is very well done. I was off when balancing the deck. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It's hard to find good instructional videos like this!
I watched several other videos on this subject. I found yours much more I formative and much more instructive. Each step made sense. I am a retired high school math instructor and believe you are a great teacher
Great video. Has anyone else noticed that the one rear bolt is on backwards? They should hang straight down not at an angle. I think you explain that in another video about mower deck. Great content. Just refurbished my 2nd JD 100 series for friends thanks to your instructions. Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks for this video. Yesterday's mowing produced the smoothest cut I've gotten this year. Someone commented about calibrating the blade height with weight in the seat to simulate the operator's weight, 200 pounds in my case. A stack of fertilizer bags, dog food bags worked great for this. This trick made about 1/4 difference in the actual blade height. I wanted to shoot for 3.5 inch actual grass height. For leveling and calibration purposes, calibrating with blocks 3.0 inches tall and calibrating with the control lever on the 3.25 inch setting, the desired grass height was achieved This includes allowing for my 200 pound mass in the driver seat. When mowing, the control lever is set for 3.5 inches. When leveling the mower deck, jostling the mower deck up and down a few times while performing the height adjustment gave best results. Only one calibration block is needed for this. It is important to check the deck height back and forth between the two sides 2-3 times. Once the side adjustments are satisfactory. The front adjustment can be done using the same calibration block, eyeballing the bottom rim of the deck to be about 1/4 inch below the top surface of the cal block. Now I have a method for quickly checking deck height and level quickly any time it might be needed. Thank you for the video.
Thanks Jim! I always had my dad {he passed away in 2009} do things like this for me. So I was looking around on youtube and found your channel and thanks to you I leveled my deck. Your instructions are so clear, even I could do this.
@@DIYJIM He would be... I'm even proud of myself and that's because of your video(s). Would the deck being not level, make the lawnmower drive bumpy? That's what I was searching for and found your video. I couldn't get out to mow after I leveled it because we had a storm. My tires were low too! Next I'm gonna adjust those little wheels, clean my filter and check my spark plug...
Another terrific video! I can't believe how much I've paid John Deere to do some of these things over the ten years I've had my 125... Thanks again for a great job!
Nice quality video...good camera work. Simple enough. Also appreciate you taking time to double and triple check to make sure it was correct. Why bother if you don't do it right. :) Thanks again. Jesus bless.
Thanks Jim, excellent video. I first looked to see how to remove the deck because I hit a cypress knee that trashed a spindle. So now I'm replacing both spindles and blades and finally understand how to level the deck. While I'm at it I'm replacing all 4 tires as they just won't stay inflated properly. 8 yr old JD135.
Put you some "Flatout" in those tires and they won't ever leak again. I choose "Flatout" over the Green Slime because it lasts for the life of the tire. Stops nuisance leaks and anything up to a 1/2".
I finally got around to leveling my old john deere deck, and it cuts much better now. It was lower in the front, and didn't cut all the grass. I would have to overlap cuts but It's much better now even in heavy grass. I have an lx176 but it's pretty similar. Thanks!
I was searching for this info after noticing my hangers were opposite. One was straight down the other was backwards but in this video yours were the same way. I did watch your deck removal video and saw the both should be straight. Thanks for the video
Good job on the video. Thanks for showing us not only how to measure the deck but also how to actually make the adjustments - unlike another RUclips video titled “leveling a mower deck” that shows you how to measure it but neglects showing any adjustment procedure. (The guy seems more interested in showing off his immaculate lawn instead.)
Thank you for this vid. One thing that surprised me was how a few PSI in the rear tire affected the deck height. Just one of the many things I learned from this clean, informative, fun video.
