  • Don't let the vector environment that Illustrator operates in fool you: this software can also handle many photo editing tasks. One of which would be adding color overlays to images, and in this tutorial we'll be using blend modes to make a simple color overlay in Illustrator. This is something that can be done in mere seconds.

Thank you, a simple yet good tool. I was struggling using the opacity for a while but the Overlay looks great 👍

Awesome, thanks! I was just dropping a transparency over it without grayscale and didn’t understand why it was coming out strange

The edit color option is grayed out

Thank you this worked great, but if I want to just apply the overlay to image I turned into a vector how would I remove the unwanted background just leaving the object with the overlay?

Thank you but this causes more steps because I have to then mask if I don't want the background to also have the overlay. It is so nice how in Photoshop, if you have an object, the overlay will only apply to that and not the rest of the image.

For some reason this doesn't work for me. It just brightens the greyscaled image 🤔
