In an interview, the show creator Loren Bouchard said that the Linda character was the only voice/character that was fully formed before the series. Linda was written with John's love of doing that voice in mind!
My theory is that he doesn't even have to do that any more in new tapings. They just reuse the same one from a five year old episode over and over again.

The voice acting is phenomenal, period. Remember when the guy who was in love with the mannequin was finally reunited with her and he started laughing at her inside joke? When Bob wanted in, the voice actors delivery when he said, "you wouldn't get it!" was awesome!
Its so cool to see Kristen Schaal do a Louise tableread vs a Mabel tableread. Her ability to give each character enough nuance for the audience to be able to differentiate between one character and another will never cease to amaze me.
