I just bought a 16 deg Adams Tight Lies "Air Assault" with the original Adams graphite shaft for $7 at the local Goodwill store. It is in excellent shape and I can't wait to hit it! I'm just getting back into golf after a 30 year hiatus and I am slowly building my bag of clubs entirely from thrift store finds (except the driver, which is a Callaway Diablo that I bought at Play It Again Sports for $50). If I stick with it, I will probably invest in a more modern set, but I'm having fun with my bag of misfit toys.
TGIF!!! Yeah baby! All Time Hall of Famer! I got one of these when they first came out. 16* 3 wood steel shaft. Loved it! Never hit a 3 wood so easily as these and you could hit them off bare lies with no problem, Now I gotta get one in graphite. Thanks a lot Mr. Vintage Golfer!!!
I love your channel! I was a golf rep and remember when these came out at the PGA show. It was the era of Goldwin and the Great Big Bertha. Boy I miss those days...
Big tv infomercial advertising when these first came out, sure enough I went with a more lofted version, I think 16 or 17 degrees with a steel shaft in R flex...the reason I jumped on this was the way low center of gravity and shallow head perfect for tight lies/dirt, tall grass was okay if the ball was sitting in it not on it if you know what I mean. Tee shots required a very low tee or it was sky city, to be honest the club worked as intended. Looks wise it was plain Jane understated, I remember this caused the low shallow head trend for awhile, TaylorMades all knew Rescue wood/iron made driving irons cool around the same time. As far as fairway woods go what works stays in the bag, sometimes for years and years, absolute trust.
Love the shallow face on the Adams tight lies. I still game the Tight Lies 2 fairways and hybrids (which are 7 years old now). It helps they don’t sound like tin cans when you hit them.
One of the most important designs in the evolution of golf clubs in my opinion. I hit this club with great confidence back in the 90’s. Recently I found a new original 3 and 5 wood on eBay. I snapped them up. I find them to be more consistent and accurate (not longer) than my newer fairway woods with all the bells and whistles.
I found the club head in a dry creek bed at my course this morning. I’m stoked because it’s in pretty good shape. I am going to reshaft it and throw it in the bag.
Great review. Hard for me to take my Warbird out of the bag. Tight Lies definitely led the way in the thinner fairway wood / hybrid that we still see around today!
I did a quick balance check of the 9 degree version and the white stripes on the back appear to be near the balance point of the club. Maybe thats why they are there?
I like the Adams Tight Lies fairway wood. It has a deader sound than some of the other fairway woods you mentioned. The Orlimar Trimetal is easily one of my favorite fairway woods of all time. The only problem with the ordinary is that it isn't as versatile. It's great on tight lies in the fairway, but not so much out of the rough. That's why I game a Callaway Warbird fairway metal. It's the best all around fairway wood out of the three.
The tri metals have a really hot face. I got one a couple of years after their introduction and was stunned by the distance. Unfortunately any fluffy lie is a potential disaster.
Picked up this club little while back but haven’t tried it yet. It will have to be pretty good to dislodge my Warbird though. That may never leave my bag. ! Love the channel
I agree! I love his reviews but he always presents dirty clubs. The old caddie in me shudders every time I see a dirty club face. Give that club some love!
I pop this club up more than a solid shot. Very straight flight, but as you mentioned, perhaps a tour edge 3 hybrid or even the Silver Scott 2 iron has more consistency.
I have this same club - not in my bag though, but I should give it more testing. No serial number on mine, different shaft, and the whole head is painted, including the face.
Love Adam’s , I always wonder what new kinds of clubs and new technologies they would have came up with if Taylormade did not buy them to destroy the company/competition
Hi there, it would be nice to know what your target is before hitting the woods or irons. It’s really hard to see what you’re aiming at. And I agree with another guy, a quick clean up of the the clubs would be nice.

Same! Def having fun w my set of misfits
It’s a great club only issue is I’ve had both of mine have the heads seperate from the shaft. Need to get it reshafted it hits so consistently

Nice looking 3 wood, I particularly like the natural finish you have going on the face.
Soak it in the Dew!

Classics. Both the original Adams and the Dew

Ok so this is the second video I found of yours bc I found some clubs at the thrift I am now subscribed and collecting !

With all the tommy armour irons you’re doing, do you plan on reviewing the 14* heater driving iron?
I don't have one but added it to my list.
All that hot tech of the late 90's is now available for a song. Just got a TL 7-wood for $25. If it feels good, it is good.
The dirt in the grooves keeps the ball from spinning
You need to clean that club. It looks like hell.

I’ve gamed the strong 3 till just very recently. Hit my friends cobra speed zone 3 and was like omg 😳 I went straight home and ordered radspeed king 3

Lmfao.. "dew the dew bro"
Just added this to my bag.. not a fan of the shaft. But love the head size
Old is new, Adams clubs are sold now with new designs.
I have an almost identical knock off version of this club called the Super Concorde 16* loft shallow face.
JONNNNN LMAO you really just dumped mnt dew all over yourself
