I don't know why everyone is dissing this guy. Given the situation he executed flawlessly. He tried to take it slow at first and there was nothing he could do. There's just no rollers on his trailer. He had to throw the boat off the back with force and He didn't get stuck. So good job Mr. GMC Utility.
In my opinion he did the best he could with what he had. The launching ramp should be dredged to better accommodate boat launching. Bottom line it's not deep enough. I guess in NJ people just sit and criticize without getting off their duff and help.
This guy is beyond help. He shouldn't have been using the ramp in the first place. The only help anyone could give him is the advice to use another ramp. If he couldn't figure that out on his own after the first three failed attempts, he's not going to listen to anyone anyway. He could have easily lost his truck or worse.
On June 5, 1990, Jessie Sharp paddled over the edge of Niagara Falls in a kayak. The Falls should have been engineered or altered to better accommodate kayaks. Bottom line, it's too steep, there's too much waterflow, and there's too many rocks at the bottom. I guess in NY, people just sit and criticize, without getting off their duff to help.
No he didn't. If it took that much speed to get it off when he slammed on the brakes--like an idiot, then how would he possibly get it back ON the trailer? No, always go dead slow--for so many reasons. If she does not float off--easy, then you need to regroup, find another ramp or scrap it. Also, never put your truck that deep into salt water--bad stuff for the bottom of the vehicle.
First off to all the hater comments about the people just filming and not helping. Growing up on an Island just a stones throw away from the ramp, you can literally spend all day "Helping" and it gets old. Yeah if I was out side or waiting to launch myself sure hop in help, but why was he ever obligated to help. Maybe this guy launching should have come prepared with the right equipment. Its really important when you buy a boat to make sure you get a trailer to match the best with what conditions you are going to be launching in. Shallow launch you need a roller trailer. Steeper and deep launches you need a bunk trailer. Don't just buy a trailer because its already under the boat. Its all a part of being a responsible boat owner.
I am getting ready to buy my first boat soon. I intend to learn every thing I can. I got some good advice a short while ago. I was told start small. So that is what I will do. I was also told to watch every boat launch video I can find on RUclips (there's dozens) as well as the boat launch fails to learn what NOT to do (even more of those). And then I'm going to sign up for a course and there are plenty of places near me that give free lessons if you buy a boat from them. So I don't think there is any excuse to not know how to operate a boat safely.
nunya biznez 2 man job is easier. and having a rope on the front and back of the boat makes it 5,000 times easier to stabilize after u launch it and hold it by the dock.
rustypro98 In the last two weeks since my original post, I've been hanging out at the boat launch near me and every time I see someone launching by themselves I go offer to help them. With all the practice I have had in two weeks I am now confident I can do it by myself if need be. I have helped to launch about 30 different boats now. The largest one was a 29 footer. One guy I helped in the morning came back 4 hours later and gave me half his catch. I thought that was terribly nice.
I think he did fine, honestly the guy has major balls . You won't see me punching it in reverse towards a lake and then slamming on the brakes with the truck halfway under water. I would have just gone somewhere else to launch!
I'm looking to buy my first boat and came to youtube to learn about launching a boat. So far I have found about a dozen ways not to launch a boat. By the time I get done I'm going to be an expert in the wrong way to launch a boat.
beargibson3100 Thanks. I actually spent some time at a boat ramp near me offering to help people launch their boats in exchange for some experience launching. You'd be surprised at the number of people who go boating by themselves. I think a lot of people don't like letting anyone know where their favorite fishing holes are.
Im 32 this year and I have been piloting boats since I was 8 or 9. Its quite easy. Dont forget to check the laws in your area there are a lot of rules and regulations about boats that most people ignore. You can usually get a free book from fish and wildlife. Or look them up online
beargibson3100 Thanks, here in Florida boats are governed by the department of transportation. I have acquired a booklet from the state on boating laws but it only highlights them. The dept of wildlife actually has three books, one for hunters, one for freshwater fishing and one for saltwater fishing and you pretty much need a degree in zoology to keep from breaking any laws. They regulate hundreds of species and each one has it's own set of rules. Several counties have separate rules enforced by state wildlife officials then every state and county park has their own rules to follow as well. Go fishing in Florida but bring a zoologist and attorney with you so you don't accidentally break any rules.
beargibson3100 Boating rules are almost as complex. I will be taking a safe boating course and an operational boating course later this year before I buy my boat.
I seriously think the best idea ever is to make people get a license to leagally launch the boat in that state to demonstrate to a inspector you can launch the boat safely if not you have to take a safety course in how to do it properly this would eliminate about 50% of the people that have no idea what they are doing
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha What state do you live in. I would not add to your vote. I am happy that nothing happened to mess up their trip. Practice makes perfect. Just be careful because, here in Florida there are some serious drop off points right after the boat ramp into the water.
This is where it helps to have rollers on the trailer, my friend has the same type of trailer and he just has the most difficult time, kinda ruins the whole boating experience. My trailer has rollers and we dont even thing about the process that much, its that easy with rollers.
I have launched boats since I was 15. Everything from a 12 foot jon boat, to a 5 ton carver. Two things I think are most over looked by newbies and people that have done this mess for years are forgetting a tie down and forgetting the damn plug. If your new at this, backing it down the ramp is the most fun.
@oakland002 he has obviously never launched a boat before. He had plenty of water but decided not to go and just push it off. his truck is probably a rust bucket by now because i assume he didnt make any attempt to get the salt off.
That boat has a deeper V hull than all those mooring boats. He did try to push it off and it wouldn't budge. The only thing he could have done to help would have been to air down the trailer tires, down to about 5psi and hope he doesn't break his beads.
It is easy with two people and the right conditions. 1 .find a slipway that is steep and deep enough to launch boat ( may be tide dependent). 2. back the boat SLOWLY into the water until the rear of the boat is buoyant. 3. wind out winch to remove tension to release winch . 4. use boats engine to reverse away from trailer . (easier with two people) . Generally if the trailer tires are submerged your good to go but it depends on your trailer. Remember to remove all other straps and that may be holding the vessel to the trailer. Be careful when using your engine on the slipway , shallow water = rocks and debris that could damage prop or block water intakes . get to know your winch and boats systems before launching lol just ask whoever you bought it of they would be a jerk not to inform you of basic launching and operating procedures .
@jaydee040 the point is that there is a normal boat launch 1/2 mile down the street which he could have used instead of this one. Also that guy has that truck down the shore all summer long and does this all the time, he doesnt take care of that truck at all.
I think he was trying to get his winch un-hung, like the rope was dug into the wrapping ? If you look close, it dosen't look like its unhooked from the boat.
He didn't unhook the winch line. It was teetering when they pushed it by hand, but the winch line was still hooked on. That's what keeps stopping him. He may be brilliant, but it looks stupid as hell when you forget to unhook the boat.
matt parsons I wander if that Rust-Through Warranty takes care of those folks driving in the ocean. ? The best , highest pressured hose in the country won't get all the salt out of those crevices and cracks you saw it seep into.
+matt parsons "I'd say he did the best he could with a poor ramp." With that poor ramp AND that type of trailer. For such shallow ramps, a trailer with rollers works better than one with bunks.
I've seen guys trying to launch on very steep ramps lose their boat on the ramp when they had rollers and were used to unhooking the boat before backing down the ramp. It was funny and sad at the same time.. lol ..but a lot of entertainment can be had observing a busy boat ramp.. lol
It looks like that the trailer has no rollers, to launch the boat off. The ramp is very flat into the water, because you still can see the mudguard of the trailer.
In fairness, that is a crap ramp. There is not enough fall on it, but in saying that, he should do away with those outdated skids on his trailer. Get some rollers or try Teflon on the skids. He did all he could really.
I've seen guys like this launch for 20 minutes and they finally get the boat in and it doesn't start. Its sucks for them but its hilarious at the same time.
I own a boat, and I wouldn't help him either. This guy was no where's near launching depth. The boat should be floating so you can drive the trailer out from under it. Some guy's un-hook the boat from the trailer and back up quickly so as to slide the boat off the back of the trailer, (which is fine) but they do it with a driver already in the boat. But he is in no way deep enouph to do that either. CHEAPSKATE should have just paid the launch fee at the real boat ramp, maybe about $13 to $15.
Not sure what the problem is. Seeing how it's low tide I think he did a pretty good job given the fact the ramp sucked and there wasn't really that much water to work with.
Well there was his problem. He should have taken his shirt off before he ever tried to launch the boat. Looks like that made all of the difference....lol.
we've all launched boats from shit landings, the pressure of trying to make the outing perfect for the one time your family joins in just adds to it. I think he did a better job of launching there than most people who watched this video would have. Rollers would be a good investment for that landing.
One problem is the material on the skid rails, thge other is lkarge wheels on trailer. You learn low trailers load and unload much easier and certain materials stick to the boat body and won't slip easily. Rollers are always best.
that is exactly how you launch on a low tide from that location. He could have either found a different launch point or waited for a higher tide or slide the boat off the bunk. He slid the boat off the bunk...
That's salt water, it's why the guy said something because it'll cause it to rust quicker. Too shallow for the truck to drift or sink, wasn't worried about that.
This explains so much when they retire to Florida. We watch this kind of thing often. They may have FL plates but check their stickers about NJ, Ma, NY etc. So much for their self righteous northern superiority. "Back in Jersey" "Back in NY". The funniest is watching them speed through full throttle outside boating channels and hit an underwater sandbar. Hilarious.
Looks ok to me, plenty of weight over the back tires with those storage bins in the bed of the truck. The ramp looks really shallow for a long way into the water too.
He didn't do anything wrong. "Bumping" a boat off the trailer is a common trick. If he had tried to use the boat motor, he would have only churned up the water. Maybe next time find a better ramp though!
That boat ramp would be a challenge considering the way the boat was trailered. Looked like the hull was barely skimming the water. The one thing I'd have done differently would be to have someone inside the boat.
I got a car off a trailer with this technique a couple days ago.. twas a junker but the wench came loose and landed in the passenger seat. good fun with lots of booze

The Bushwacker THANKS, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!!!😮😮😮
New Jersians are assholes. That’s why I wanna get the hell outta here!
He did awesome for being on what looks like a ramp for boats with a shallow draft or kayaks. I am happy to see he made it fine!
No he didn't. If it took that much speed to get it off when he slammed on the brakes--like an idiot, then how would he possibly get it back ON the trailer? Balls? Idiot. Why gamble with 50 000$?
123TauruZ321 because when you have money 50,000 dollars is like an old bike you decided to ramp into a lake when you were young
The best part of this video is that all the kids had fun with daddy and that is all the kids needs good job dad 👌🙏💪👍

nunya biznez Check that all plugs are in place, back it in till it slightly floats, make sure the engine starts before disconnecting from the trailer.
beargibson3100 Thanks. I actually spent some time at a boat ramp near me offering to help people launch their boats in exchange for some experience launching. Caleb Niederhofer that's a liberal act. They've regulated most of us out of jobs, now you want to take our fun too!

He got it in... Sometimes even people with experience have trouble. I bet he had fun on the water....
He knows what he's doing, just a little slow realizing the water is too shallow.
I think this guy did a kick ass job honestly with a ramp like that it is going to be hard to get a boat in, and yes that guy is my dad
I have launched boats since I was 15. Everything from a 12 foot jon boat, to a 5 ton carver. rename it to THE BEST BOAT LAUNCH EVVVVVER!!!
No quit in that guy. Good lesson for the kids in attendance. Sometimes life doesn't give you the best ramp, you make do with what you have.
Probably left the rear tie down straps done up.
johnabuick exactly,,,,,I'm sure he finally ripped them loose,,,that's when he got her off the trailer,,nothing to do with the ramp
The trailer fenders never went under water, the water line is still over a foot above the water. It's hard to launch a boat during Low Tide.
i would love to see him put it back on the trailer.....
As would I.
The very first thing that came to mind.
That was one of those 'I don't give a fuck, you're going to work!' moments.
3:34 There is still something attached to bow hook. Strap? Maybe a slack line to keep boat from floating away.
@oakland002 he has obviously never launched a boat before. He had plenty of water but decided not to go and just push it off. his truck is probably a rust bucket by now because i assume he didnt make any attempt to get the salt off.

did it ever occur to him that if you can't get it off , you'll never get it back on .?
I hope that's low tide, or good luck getting it loaded back on the trailer. ..
What's the problem with that launch? I think it was great given the fact that it wasn't exactly a launching peir or jetty
It is easy with two people and the right conditions.

You can see the winch line connected the whole time. It must have ripped the cleat out of the fiberglass.
@jaydee040 the point is that there is a normal boat launch 1/2 mile down the street which he could have used instead of this one. Also that guy has that truck down the shore all summer long and does this all the time, he doesnt take care of that truck at all.

I'm more interested to see how that boat gets back on the trailer now.
He didn't unhook the winch line. It was teetering when they pushed it by hand, but the winch line was still hooked on. That's what keeps stopping him. He may be brilliant, but it looks stupid as hell when you forget to unhook the boat.
The trailer was well under water, how much deeper did he need, I was hoping the scene where his truck start to float backward into the water.
I'd say he did the best he could with a poor ramp.

Yeah, believe it or not, we here in the U.S. help people in need also....but clearly this guy didn't need it, so I don't understand your jealousy.
The worst part was not having the kids safety out of the way.
finally snapped the rear strapps
He launched and his family were having fun with him.
I think he finally broke the hold down straps on the transom or engine.
Dude this Dude is the man. Fucking Balls of Steel. Dad got it done and kids are happy
Try installing "ROLLERS" on carrier next time. Lmfao

Two thumps up to this dad. Not the launch I would have made, but a successful launch none the less.

+Cat Weasle And I think he also didn't disconnect the strap from the eye of the boat.
He did all he could...except take the time to properly learn the mechanics of launching a boat with that type of equipment.
I wonder if the lights and brackets were still intact from the force of the water hitting them
We used to tie rope between the truck and the trailer to get the extra distance. But your trailer needs a jockey wheel to do this.
I've seen guys like this launch for 20 minutes and they finally get the boat in and it doesn't start. Its sucks for them but its hilarious at the same time.

YEAUP TOTALY AGREE THE GENTLEMEN DONT HAVE A CLUE, HE NEEDS HOW TO VIDEOS
I wonder if he had given any thought to how he was going to get the boat back on the trailer
All the boats tied out are the ones they couldnt get loaded back up lol
Lmao those 2 skiffs and the seadoo? Kidding, yeah those other ones definitely are
Mans truck was gonna be a coral reef
I want to see how he gets it back on the trailer!
Not sure what the problem is. Seeing how it's low tide I think he did a pretty good job given the fact the ramp sucked and there wasn't really that much water to work with.
its the boat launch ramp at this location, it is to shallow.
Well there was his problem. He should have taken his shirt off before he ever tried to launch the boat. Looks like that made all of the difference....lol.
A busy boat ramp is best entertainment ever.
I want to see this guy trying to get that boat back on the trailer...
I'm not truck savvy, but is what the camera man saying about the rear end true with the salt water?
Nicely done! I'd like to see the arm-chair quarterbacks posting negative comments get off their ass and try this.
we've all launched boats from shit landings, the pressure of trying to make the outing perfect for the one time your family joins in just adds to it.
Nice launch what the problem is?
lucky one of those trailor boards didnt come off with that thirty mph launch attempt. lol
So dad... How does it go back on?
So if “flinging it” off the trailer works, how would one “fling it” back onto the trailer at the end of the day?
winch
OH' NO I forgot to unhook the winch cable first my bad🤣🤣
that is exactly how you launch on a low tide from that location. He could have either found a different launch point or waited for a higher tide or slide the boat off the bunk. He slid the boat off the bunk...
OMG! THE WATER ABOVE THE HUBS?!?!?! *O GOD! THE HUMANITY!!!* rofl, old people are funny to listen to.

Remove the Transom takedown straps, unprepared to launch a boat?
He didn't have his trailer in deep enough water to begin with, how is he going to load back up?
Looks ok to me, plenty of weight over the back tires with those storage bins in the bed of the truck. The ramp looks really shallow for a long way into the water too.
Why does it look like the cable is still attached?
He did a pretty good job considering the circumstance.
He got it of bet it was more fun getting it back on the trailer lol
whats the name of the street this was on ? i have a house on 7th ave in SSP , trying to figure out where this is . thanks .
Anthony Edwards Yeah add more weight to it moron... SMH! Experienced fishermen tie it to the trailer with a long rope so there's no need.
How the hell is he going to get it back on the trailer?
Boat's floating and truck is dry, what's the problem. Knowing your equipment is the battle.
I got a car off a trailer with this technique a couple days ago.. twas a junker but the wench came loose and landed in the passenger seat. good fun with lots of booze
I dont know much about boating but if he just put rollers in the middle of the trailer the boat would come off so much easyer
he got it done, no foul
That's alot more gooder than just having someone already in the boat to drive it off 😆 SMH
Rename to "how not to hold a camera"
Can only imagine those signs say no boat launching
How about when he wants to put it back on the trailer?
He launched it! But I feel bad for the rusty bottom of that truck :)
What could have anyone have done do to help this guy ?
He is not in big trouble. He won in the end.
My advice to the owner would be simple.
Use a proper ramp next time.
That's awesome.
obviously the man completed the task, in a tough situation. nice work... not a fail
You think that was bad. Wait until he tries to retrieve the boat.
are there no boat ramps in your county
he problably does sometimes is boat ramps not being deep enough
Next time he should maybe try the ramp up the street that's free, and is concrete.
I think this is a flat bottom trailer not designed for the center console v hull,
Because the guy recording this is defiantly the boat launching pro? am i right?
JFC... was Michael J Fox the person filming this?
