    I have an EMR40. The pads turn from blue to white but I don't see any vapor coming off the pads. The is the same problem you were having with the Flextail which doesn't surprise me as both devices report using the same 329 degree heating technology. Please let me know whether or not you see vapor from your EMR40 so I will know if this is normal or if I have a faulty unit. Thanks for your time and willingness to test these devices for us!

    • @richardhurst1969
      @richardhurst1969 Год назад +8

      On an electronic device you do not see vapour. You do on the thermacell as that's the butan evaporating into the air, not the product

    Good review. A duration test is needed. I got the EMR40 yesterday and put it to work in outdoor mode with a Nitecore mat in still weather. Within 10 minutes mosquitoes were not bothering me and I was impressed. But after an hour they were undeterred. Mosquitoes even hovered around the unit with no effect. That was with a Nitecore mat that uses prallethrin. I wonder if Thermacell mats (allethrin) last longer. Or possibly those cheap import half size pads that use meperfluthrin.

    • @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
      @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA  Год назад +4

      It all depends on the wind for all of those in my experiences, I mean I just sat for 40 mins total in 10 min intervals and when it was on I was fine and when it was off they were all over me
      I’ve used them with both and had great success for lengthy periods of time with Both pads in both units

    • @RoomForTools
      @RoomForTools Год назад +7

      Tried it again today with much better success. That other day I used a sample mat that came with the unit and it did not work very well and the mat remained blue after 2.5 hours in outdoor mode. This time I used a mat from their 30 pack and it worked properly, keeping the mosquitos away for hours with the pad being mostly white after around three hours of use in outdoor mode. Perhaps there was something wrong with that sample mat.

    One point worth making here: these pads use a nerve poison, and it is one which causes disorientation and malcoordination in insects rather than instant death. So, all it really needs to do is just make them so drunken that they cannot bite, rather than anything else.

      I made the mistake of buying the flextail before I watched reviews. I mainly bought it for smoking cigars on the back deck in summer. Mosquitos tend to wear my ankles out because it’s outside of easy swatting range when sitting in a chair. Well, I used the flextail at max setting and placed it right between my ankles. Mosquitos still flew right up to my ankles, despite the flextail running full throttle. The pads even changed color as they were used and still had no effect on the mosquitos.
      I’m either buying the nitecore version or the thermacell backpacker which runs on butane camping fuel containers. The biggest issue I always had with the thermacell was the disposable butane fuels that ran out WAY before the mats were used up. Probably end up with the backpacker seeing I’m an avid hiker with loads of butane cans, own plenty of thermacell pads already, and theoretically the MASSIVE quantity of flextail pads I purchased with their unit should work as well

    I'm one of those people mosquitos just seem to love. My partner is Italian so I always get bitten to death whenever we visit her homeland.
    My trusty thermacell (or a metric frick-ton of DEET) have been the only options I've had any success with keeping the "zanzare" at bay..
    I'm not sure how you'd manage a sound reproducible case, but have you considered a series of tests to find the best portable solution, like something you could clip on a bag or a belt that would work at walking pace? Nitecore and Flextail seem to have a few products.
    P.S. Thank you for putting yourself through what you've done to date, the amount of reviews on youtube of mosquito repellers the content creator hasn't even tested is ridiculous.

    So what’s best for indoors? A bedroom for example. I’m going to this town down in Mexico, that’s surrounded by swamps. These MF’s eat you alive in your sleep. Typically ppl down there use Raid Coils. You light them up and the smoke is suppose to repel them. Nonetheless, I still get stung quite a bit. I actually want these mosquitoes dead. I hate them so bad
