    These videos have really great production quality and your forum looks great too. Good work!
    Its amazing to see how far the linux desktop experience has come.
    The only rub right now is latency for realtime playback. Its fine when running linux native reaper but I have some windows only plugins from Neural. I actually tried the tactic of running Reaper itself in wine since Neural uses the awful iLok DRM. The latency was just bad enough to sound like a really really shallow reverb.

    • @VennStone
      @VennStone День назад

      Right on. Use the operating system that works best for your production environment.

      @@VennStone sorry I should have clarified that I don't like the latency. 😭
      I think what I'll have to do is if I need to track some guitar and I want realtime playback I'll do it on the Linux side with free or Linux native guitar amp VSTs and then when I want to mix (don't care about latency), then I'll swap over to Reaper running in wine.

      I should have said that the latency in wine cause a delay that ruins the instant feedback of a real amp or realtime audio processing. I find that almost any amount of latency messes with your head/rhythm.

    The Golden Age D2 for the "we have an SM7B at home" option. I wish more than 0..000001% of the world's population could laugh at that.

    Cheers I'm surprised by focusrite getting on board with Linux. Do you know if the i20 is supported under Linux? Great Video.

    can it still be used without black nail polish? i only have white and pink and blue

      White and pink are safe but blue should be avoided... unless you want the Focusrite Solo to kick down your back door and runoff screeching into the night.

      Does it works with matte finishes? Glitters? Candytones?

    Thank you for the video! What kind of software are you using to record audio under Linux?

    I assume this also works with the Solo Gen 3? Want to get one in 1-2 years when I will also switch to Linux so it would be neat to have the software as a backup to just physical knobs or other software

      Yeah, since kernel 5.15 the scarlett 3rd gen stuff has worked. That was like Debian 11 almost you should be good to go.

    Hi, am considering buying a Audio-Technica AT2020 Cardioid Condenser Studio XLR Microphone and found I need an interface for it to work... will the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4 gen work on the upcoming LinuxMint 22 (supposed to be based on Ubuntu 24.04 which ships with kernel 6.8? Every time buying a hardware or software on Linux is somehow a struggle ...

    • @VennStone
      @VennStone Месяц назад

      Since ALSA drivers are included with Kernel 6.8, you should be good to go. However, the alsa-scarlett-gui will still be necessary to control internal routing and monitoring.

    Bought the Scarlett Solo (4th gen) but can't get it to work on Linux. The mic volume is too low and it crackles while talking. Headphone works fine!

      I haven't tried anything on Linux yet and am still new to Linux except for some gaming. I only have a 1st gen Scarlett that isn't supported. But it sounds like the buffer for the sample rate could be too low.

    I hope it's okay to ask as a linux nooB: I had a gen 1 8i6. I saw there were no linux drivers for the GUI for it, and I want to use it with Reaper. So I went and bought a gen4 2i2. I tried following what directions I could find (I'm on Nobara, which I understand is related to Fedora) and ran into a problem where a popup says it needs a firmware update to work. I went to the link that popup provided and saw some files I am unfamiliar with how to run, such as .deb and tar.gz. I read somewhere else to place a file in a folder as usr/lib/firmware/scarlett2, but no such folder exists on my setup even though I tried installing the main linux/scarlett2 a couple of different ways. I followed the github install directions as best I could understand, typing in various commands but still ran into the same popup/warning. I can't find any more clear instructions on what to do at this point, and the scarlett2 folder still doesn't exist where it is supposed to. Thanks to anyone for any possible help. I really want to get linux working to get away from windows if possible.

      @InterfacingLinux  24 дня назад +2

      You will have to download, compile and install the Scarlett2 Firmware Management Utility. Instructions on the github page.
      Can't walk you through that process in the RUclips comments but I can the forums. Link in the video description.

    Using 4th gen with pipewire analog stereo output + analog surround input everything that is played on my computer is also somehow heard through my input (if enabled) for example if I join discord everything that is played from my browser is played through my mic input and is heard in discord. Do you know why that and is there a fix for it? I didn't have this issue with focusrite's 3rd gen. Workaround for me was simply using Pro Audio on pipewire but as of recent it started to experience bugs and after a while it corrupts audio and starts to crackle and pop.

    • @InterfacingLinux
      @InterfacingLinux  Месяц назад

      The Gen 4 has an internal mixer. Might be an issue with the routing. You can use ALSA Scarlett2 Control Panel to configure it.

    • @swampweed833
      @swampweed833 Месяц назад

      @@InterfacingLinux Thank you for reply. I think I figured it out, as you said it's a routing "issue" but I think it's intentional now. When using analog input I had to mute Rear Left and Rear Right channels in balance setting. I'm using sm7b and it only has 1 channel which is Front Right, for whatever reason routing connects input and output with Rear Left and Right channels.
