Thanks. I'm curious about what kind of setup you have, in case there's anything about it that I could incorporate into mine. My first setup was a tripod with a few center column extenders which I put above the pan/tilt bar, and a little step stool to get me high enough to see the camcorder screen. That resulted in the camera moving quite a bit more though when I needed to tilt. Overall it had less pieces, but because of the step stool it was more difficult to carry everything from the car to the field.
@@JeremyHalbert I don't know if anything I have would work but a few things led me down a different rabbit hole....One was that I already had a mirrorless APS-C camera. I don't own a camcorder and I wanted to incorporate the camera in the event I can take both videos and photos post-game or at like a birthday party. Second, was that I wanted less "hands-on" time. I was recording on my camera via a fluid head tripod at normal heights manually zooming from the ends of the field but wanted freedom to just be sitting in my chair some games and not looking through a screen. This is because I am not the best videographer so its work for me rather than comes naturally :) So my setup is: 20' tripod which I only put up about 12' (don't feel comfortable over that yet), an edlekrone headplusv2 (this allows for pan/tilt), the edlekrone controller which I program 3 keyposes (field left, mid, right) then I can just click either one of those keyposes for the pan motion as the game moves across the field from one side to the other. I also have a very similar plexiglass sun protector here on a cold shoe attachment, the plexi might even be the same. The zoom capability is one that I haven't tried yet however I do have the edlekrone focusplus which can zoom in and out but haven't attempted it at a game. Just trying to get the basics of the setup down before I throw another wrench :) I carry everything in one pelican 1535 and a youth ski bag (tripod)
This is great information. I am looking at purchasing a new setup for myself. As this video is two years old, several of the links no longer work and I am sure that there has been an evolution of some equipment. Would you be open to a call to discuss your setup?
Sadly, my setup hasn't changed, other than a newer camera because I dropped my old one. I haven't looked into where to get hardware since making this video. The one that people have told me they can no longer find is the female to female adapter that I use to connect the monopod to the tripod. However, there are plenty of tripod and monopods out there that have a female input on them instead of male at the top. So it would be possible to pick a monopod and tripod combination that would be able to attach to each other without needing the middle adapter piece. But again, I've stopped looking into it to be able to have any recommendations to offer.

Okay, I’ve created my first video. The quality came out great. Here’s my problem. I have two separate clips (Soccer 1st & 2nd halves). What’s the best, easiest, way to add both videos to create one fluid game, with title page, to share with team and coach?
I use Premiere Pro, which supports titles, and is easy to export. But it is not cheap. I am sure Apple and Windows both have free software for stitching the clips together. I believe Microsoft Photos supports it.
I have a MacBook. The problem I’m having is the videos save in mp4 format and each half is 40mins long. It takes 3 hours to export one half. I’m not sure if using zip software will compromise the quality. That’s what I’m troubled with. I can’t spend 5-6hours exporting these videos.
I purchased all your tripod equip setup, including the field monitor (TY for the video suggestion), but my husband says our new SonyX53 camera cannot record and send feed to field monitor, while recording in 4K. Is this operator error? He claims he can only record in 1080p and that allows him to use the field monitor to view while recording. Do u know if there’s a way to use this field monitor while recording in 4K, from my Sony camera? Lastly, what are u using to secure the extension cables to the monopod, while it’s extended? I suggested Velcro strips.
Lastly, do u recommend a software to compress 4k video for exporting to RUclips for sharing with team parents. I don’t want to compromise video quality, but I can’t spend 5 hrs exporting ONE half of the game.
@@asnyd1208 my Sony also had the issue of being unable to record and export to the video monitor. My solution was to record at 1080p, 60fps. The Panasonic I have does export to the field monitor, but to be honest, I liked the simplicity of the Sony more.
Hi. Item #2 doesn't seem to be available as of today. Do you have another suggestion? I've done a google search for something similar, but i'm worried i'll get the wrong item. I procrastinated long enough and am willing to finally try this.
I’ve not been able to find it elsewhere. I like that one because it’s so wide that it helps stabilize as it connects the two pieces. But if you do have a male thread already on the monopod or tripod, there’s a chance you can connect the two without needing the F:F adapter.
Can you post a photo of your camera bag along with the gear (looking to see how the camcorder and monitor fits)? Also what is the small grey bag that you are using for the HDMI cable and the remote control cable?
I don't use a camera bag anymore. I now use the smaller tripod with the sturdier monopod, and those two combined will fit in my model 3 trunk fully assembled. So now all I have to do is pop the camera on, connect the handle with the remote, and I'm good to go. It makes setup much quicker. Everything stays attached, including the monitor. Hi. Just so I completely understand. You did not use the video head that came with the tripod. Instead you replaced it with the connector. Did I get that right? Any particular reason why you chose to go with the monopod head vice the one that came with the tripod? Were they so similar it didn't matter? I'm assuming the video heads are interchangeable, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!
Any video head that works would be fine. I just happened to like the lighter one from the monopod when I made this video. But in hindsight, either would have worked.
Yes, please do. It's been a while since I did it, but I think what I had to do was use a grinder to carve out a small notch close to the top of the 15mm rod. Then it was just a matter of using a screwdriver to pry open the hole as far as I could force it, and then squeeze the rod in as hard as possible. Then I used a hammer to hammer it into place, and then screwed it in. There may be a simpler approach, which would be to buy this plate adapter to go under the camera (www.amazon.com/dp/B06XHF9VF9/), and then use an adapter like this (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N2LBQ5H) to attach a second rod at a more downward angle. I haven't done any of that though, since I already had mine working.

1. Thank you for the video. Your achieving what I want to accomplish. 2. I've bought almost everything you have here except I have a miller ds-20 tripod. What I can't understand and I've tried to freeze frame your video to understand, is where your benro adapter is connecting. Have you disconnected your fluid head from the lower ball and are now putting your blue adapter on the lower bowl? I don't see how that is possible with my Miller DS-20. Can you explain? Thanks again.
One other note, I bought the monopod you suggested above. I don't see a way to attach the head to the inverted bottom of the tripod. Do you have a male-to-male adapter on? Thanks again.
I thought I replied to this, but it's showing as non-responded to. My tripod has a male screw option coming out the top, as does the monopod. If yours only has female, then a M:M would be required.
I really enjoyed the video. I am recording my son's football games on a hand held Panasonic camcorder using a tripod, and I was curious about the placement of the plexiglass on the handle and how it affects the camcorder wanting to tilt forward or back?
For the plexiglass on top, it attaches to the hot shoe on top of the camera and is very rigid. It only adds a little bit of weight, and not much wind resistance. So the only real impact on camera movement is the additional weight, making it a little more difficult to pan and tilt smoothly. It doesn’t impact range of motion.
If I extend all the way up, it does get a bit shaky. So I leave it about a foot lower than fully extended, and that keeps the whole thing stable enough that I don’t notice any shakiness. The Panasonic also has built in image stabilization which helps a bit as well.
I love this setup. Thanks for breaking it all down so well. I’ve looked at the SVT Advantage rig, which also looks good, but I already have most of the gear and am trying not to accumulate a ton more. I really like the rain/sun screen you designed, as well. I’m impressed that the 3/8 adapter is strong enough to hold everything steady. Do you do anything to secure the cables at the top of the tower so they’re not damaging the outputs of the camera?
What is the max hight of the tripod?.. idk if you heard of svt advantage company that sells something similar but camera seems less quality and I just figure since is cheaper.. I really want this system since you provided everything needed and I don't know much or where to buy.. . Hopefully you check out the video and let me know what you think about it
Nice tips.. What is the advantage of the Panasonic AG-CX10 or any pro camcorder over a DSLR/Mirrorless ? I figured if you want to travel light, you would go for the lighter choice
I don’t know how well the remote zoom and remote start/stop works on a DSLR/Mirrorless. Also the camcorders tend to be more automatic. But mostly for me it is comfort level, I had camcorders already and was comfortable with them.
I need to purchase a camera. I'm generally like Sony, but recording ofr soccer, I dont thik the AX53 has the 60FPS that you speak of. Can you recommend a video camera that is comparable to what you use.
I have the AX53 and it does record at 1080p 60fps/50fps (NTSC/PAL). Not at 4k though and it's a great option for soccer/football. I got some footage on my channel for reference.
I've actually followed this step by step and hit a few bumps - THINGS TO KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR. 1. Make sure the field monitor that you buy can capture 4K - The camera I have is 4K BUT what I didn't know is that the field monitor doesn't support that so when I film with the monitor it has to be in HD1080. Make sure your monitor can support 4K 2. Using a light tripod instead of Video Tripod - DON'T DO IT lol The light tripod is great as it can extend to 3m in the air, however, it vibrates and shakes and isn't built to film, I would suggest to use Jeremy's method. 3. Zoom Controller Remote - Insure that either a) your camera has a LANC output or b) your zoom controller has the appropriate adaptor. My camera doesn't have a LANC out and the ZC didn't have the adaptor. The output for my camera (Panasonic HC-WXF1M) has a micro USB so I have had to order a few other cords just to use the remote. Thank you so much @Jeremy for providing the blue print! Still got a ways to go to perfect my setup but its on the way. Cheers mate.
Hi there ! I really appreciate this video! Are you still currently using the same set up, any changes ? I'm trying to get into recording my sons soccer games and was planning on buying what you have suggested .
I am using a slightly shorter tripod at the base now. I did that mostly just to make it easier to fit in the car. I can leave the whole thing assembled this way. As a result I'm probably a foot or two lower overall, but it's a much simpler process since it's always assembled.
What a great video! I saw your overall price, which is way more than I want to spend. I saw u mentioned using diff monitor & camera, to cut cost, but I didn’t see any recommendations for those less expensive replacement items. That’s the route I need to take. Do u have any other suggestions?
Hi! Cool video! I have a question, maybe you can help. What camera can you recommend for panoramic view? Action cameras? I Would like to record 180 degree shot. Which camera can record 90-120 minutes? With which camera can you zoom in and out on the recording? I'm sorry if I bothered you with this.
Sorry, I missed this earlier. The tripod has a male thread, the Benro adapter has a female thread. If your tripod only has a female thread, then you would need a short male to male adapter as well.
There are huge lighting masts around the field. Some years ago a German company built a remote controlled bicycle lock that climbs up masts and puts the bicycle so high that no thief can take the bike. I thought that you could mount a camera on it and use it for sport fields. With gimbals and similar gear you can control the view of the camera, and the camera itself should be remote controlled but you can achieve a perspective from much higher above the field. maybe you or your viewers can use this idea. You need a frame, three inline skate wheels, three electric motors, batteries and some electronics. It's not rocket science. ruclips.net/video/kvc0A_cWUCU/видео.html
I adjust the extension of the monopod slightly based on how windy it is. With no wind, I can keep it stable by applying a little pressure on the handle that I use to pan and zoom. If it’s windy, I lower the monopod about 25% and it becomes a lot more stable. If you zoom in to the far side of the field and try to stay in one spot, you’ll notice it moving. If you’re zoomed out a little, you can’t notice it.
This has to be the best detail break down especially how u link it all

I really enjoyed the video. I am recording my son's football games on a hand held Panasonic camcorder using a tripod, and I was curious about the placement of the plexiglass on the handle and how it affects the camcorder wanting to tilt forward or back?
For the plexiglass on top, it attaches to the hot shoe on top of the camera and is very rigid. It only adds a little bit of weight, and not much wind resistance. So the only real impact on camera movement is the additional weight, making it a little more difficult to pan and tilt smoothly. It doesn’t impact range of motion.
Great, thank you. Do you have it centered over your camera?
the female to female adapter plate is genius.
Doesn't the camera shake a lot and if yes how do you keep the footage stable.
I use velcro straps to secure the cables at the top, so that the adapters have some slack where they plug into the camera.
Make sure your monitor can support 4K
Thanks for sharing your experience, I'm sure plenty of people out there appreciate it and will benefit from it
Informative
Hi! Cool video! I have a question, maybe you can help. What camera can you recommend for panoramic view? Action cameras? I Would like to record 180 degree shot. Which camera can record 90-120 minutes? With which camera can you zoom in and out on the recording? I'm sorry if I bothered you with this.
Jeremy,
Question, how did you attached the benro to the tripod?
Sorry, I missed this earlier. The tripod has a male thread, the Benro adapter has a female thread. If your tripod only has a female thread, then you would need a short male to male adapter as well.
Thanks for the update. Anyway you can post a video on the tripod/Benro adapter?
There are huge lighting masts around the field. Some years ago a German company built a remote controlled bicycle lock that climbs up masts and puts the bicycle so high that no thief can take the bike. I thought that you could mount a camera on it and use it for sport fields. With gimbals and similar gear you can control the view of the camera, and the camera itself should be remote controlled but you can achieve a perspective from much higher above the field. maybe you or your viewers can use this idea. You need a frame, three inline skate wheels, three electric motors, batteries and some electronics. It's not rocket science.

I can see that the camera at the top moves and wobbles a lot. Is it visible in the recordings and how is it solved...
