Only the original ff7 timeline is meant to survive so that’s why every other timeline including the one at the end of rebirth is dying too. As we know Seph wants to unite and consume all the timelines that live so we will see Zack and cloud do what they can to keep their timelines alive til the end until they unite and create a new future
I don't think it's like that at all, if you guys look very closely, at the moment of Biggs and Zack's exact death, they said their soul was tugged away by a wind, and that wind are the Grey whispers that no longer exist after they were destroyed in Remake part 1 and split into Black and White Whispers. We can see when Cloud seem to have met Zack to team up against Sephiroth in the end, their location are nowhere in the physical world. Zack was tugged into a pocket of the lifestream by white whispers, so was Cloud where the white whispers brought them together, and then suddenly black whispers appear and Sephiroth appears after that, and we see the settings turn black like during the Edge of Creation scene in remake, what I suspect is this location is also as the compilation material of FF7 described, the Stagnant Lifestream, either that or the Negative Lifestream world which Sephiroth control. The lifestream allows for alternate timeline because it consist of memories and these memories can be travelled back and forth by someone who knows how, like Sephiroth or the Cetra. However the lifestream phenomenal is in a sense not real since it cannot touch the physical world, apart from memories, Sephiroth have to use Jenova to touch the physical world, though the whispers seem to change everything, it seem the Black and White whispers can actually touch or manipulate the physical world.

It's a little confusing, but later on Biggs mentions cloud being a merc so even though zack knows him as a soldier alone. I feel like tifa and cloud are asleep is because their souls are out of sync or something. Aerith with the party feels zack touch her hand while her unconscious self is at her home.

Biggs & Zack technically died. But actually when they died in 1 universe, they "rebirth" in a 2nd universe similar to their 1st universe & awake just felt it was just a dream. Don't know why but this FF7 kinda reminds you of the Xmen Film of Wolverine's Story, where in the main X1-X3, we see the deaths of Jean Grey & Charles Xavier, but then Jean & Professor X were "reborn" at the end of the Xmen Days of Future Past film. To further complicate things for the Xmen Film would be that upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine Film where we would see more Dead X1-X3 characters brought back to life.
In ff7/ffx world view, no one is truely dead, but just return to the planet's life stream. My guess is they are currently in the life stream world , and have to fight off Jenny and Sephi 's forces there.
So in this timeline, Aerith is the only one saved by Zack, Cloud went missing but the others are captured by Shinra. What’s happening to them? Are they executed? What about this timeline’s Cloud? If he’s alive, and the mako poisoned Cloud is also around… what is going????? Arghhh
FF7's theme was about loss and grief. It was tragic but beautiful. Something that could get people through hard times. Now it's about what? Pure bullsh*t and wishful thinking? Taking the original concept and pis*ing on it, for what? MONEY. Taking advantage of peoples nostalgia while also lying to them by using the word "Remake" and giving it a different definition as an excuse.
The story is still about grief and loss. We all had someone we wished would still be with us today. Its a sad reminder that we couldnt change the outcome, just the way to it. I mean, we all had once the thought of "what would have been". Its not entirely different from OG VII. Its still ongoing. Just because you dont understand whats happening, doesnt make it bad.
Its a different timeline, created by the actions of someone. In that timeline, he lived through the attack. In this timeline tho, Gaias about to die because ShinRa had sucked up all the mako.

Zack is dead. So is Biggs. This is their consciousness in the lifestream coming to terms with their fate in a temporary world. Biggs accepted his fate which is why he got shot the same way he did in real life. Zack has found new purpose in saving Cloud and Aerith
Its more about different dimensions than timelines if you're talking about how Zack got teleported from the crises core era to the present timeline where midgar took a hit by the tornadoes where cloud and the party fought Sephiroth. The whispers froze time in Zack's timeline so it prevented him from getting killed. I think Cloud was just caught in the timewarp and I think this is happening for important reasons for part-3.The way the dimensions work is its connected to a persons mind and body, so only Cloud and Aerith at the moment can see inside the realm with their minds or dreams. I think if Cloud or Aerith dies in the dimension where we are playing the game currently; they will still be alive in other one which then sets up another opportuniy to take down Sephiroth. The fact that Sephiroth is in two dimensions or possibly three is terrifying lol.
Very messy like kingdom hearts but the interpretation is that Zack’s timeline is the life-stream/afterlife/alternate universe. Everyone who dies in Cloud’s timeline goes into Zack’s timeline which is why Zack and Briggs can move around while Cloud and everyone else remain Comatose in Zack’s world.

It's unknown if it's the 'lifestream' or branching alternate universes in a multiverse, however, in the game Sephiroth says he wants to combine all of reality so he can rule time and space so it sounds like they are alternate universes.
I think your choices in rebirth is very important. It's either you want cloud to end up with Aerith or with Tifa in the next release. If you pick Aerith, Zack will end up with Cissnei. If you pick Tifa, Zack will end up with Aerith.
I think like this timeline where zack lives, there is a timeline where aerith lives but cloud dies or tifa dies instead. Cant have everything 😢

All I can say is that the 3rd game has a lot of work to do with resolving a lot of the convoluted events in this game.

Reviewers did say it gets very convoluted and they don't really explain it very well by the end of the game
