Spent too long on the Fitbit forums trying to figure out why my Charge 5 only showed 5 dots, even after recharging. Forum instructions said to press "the flat part of the charger" but apparently I was pressing the wrong side, haha! My screen wasn't responding after I wore it into the hot tub and then put it in rice for a week, but it would receive a charge and give me the mini-readout of the charging progress. I took that as a good sign that it might still work if I could figure out how to reboot it. The key aspect of this video vs. another one I tried was the instruction to wait one second between pushing the button the three times. Thank you!!!!

I'm glad that so many people have found this helpful procedure. However, although the procedure worked as shown in your video, my Fitbit still ONLY responds to double taps and motion but totally ignores single taps and swiping. Any other ideas?

I’m not sure tech support knows about it either. I called for my last Charge 5 and we couldn’t get it rebooted. No one said anything about the charger reboot! They sent me a new one. @@wearablewhisperer
First my charge 4. Then upgraded to a 5. That took a dive, so bought my brothers old Apple Watch. That gave up 8 months later. Went back to charge and bought a slightly new/used one craigslist. Four months later, here we are.

Sadly it didn't help me. :/ I think it's just borked fully. My FitBit Charge 5 will vibrate still when I put it on the charge, and also when pressing the button on the charging cable, but... my screen never turns on.

I worried and agonized for nearly 3 days thinking that I had wasted $120.00 on this tracker only getting 3 months with my Fitbit Charge 5. This video saved me and restorex some peace of mind. I have my clock face responding to my taps on the screen. Now could you do a walk through the various features explaining how they work, what they do And what is the best way to track without draining the battery so fast? My watch was l'astinenza 7 and 8 days before needing to be places on the charger. Suddenly, along with the onset of the black screen debacle, comes the rapid battery drain..... from being 100% fully charged down to 2% and 4% .........in under an hour.

Unfortunately my charge 5 is still not responding after trying this method multiple times. The screen actually will not turn on *at all. However,* I’ve noticed that shortly after connecting the charging pins, it will give one quick vibration and display the logo for a half second, then go silent. Any theories on what the problem is and/or how to fix it? Anything helps. Thanks!
ditto, the Charge 5 has not worked for a week. It stopped working for no specific reason and I have tried this remedy a few times. each day. I put it on the charger, get the logo, do the three presses with the one second spacing and get some vibration, the logo disappears and then returns and then, as the logo stays constantly displayed, I can wait until the battery eventually dies.
Thanks for this, it wasn’t very clear on the FitBit help page that you pressed the button on the charger USB plug; even though it was coloured in, but very faintly. Been at it for half an hour before I went over to RUclips.

I think I have a similar problem. My Fitbit Charger 5 is perpetually showing the blue logo and I tried pressing the button three times. It vibrates each time I press the button, then the screen goes black for just couple of seconds and then returns to the logo. Did you manage to find a solution.
What if your fitbit doesn't reboot after the three taps. My screen just shows the fitbit diamond pattern and does not respond. It will not reboot with the tabs either. It used to reboot, but now after about a year and a half it doesn't respond.

I do not have a responsive screen on my Charge 5 Fitbit. Only black. I tried to restart with holding the button on the charge 3 times 1 second apart. I felt the vibration after each press but no screen change.
Great. So what now if my USB is wrapped and fed into a custom charging station/desk/work station and can not really be accessed unless I take everything apart. Stupid stupid design ... Why

Sorry to hear that. You might need to factory reset (but you would lose any data that isn’t synced from your tracker to your phone). You can also contact Fitbit Customer Support for more guidance.
Actually resetting from the watch lost the info from when it had stopped syncing yesterday including I never got sleep report for yesterday but at least it’s synced now. Frustrating.
It didn't work for me but I think that's a problem with my Charge 5, not your instructions. I'm quite annoyed. I've had Fitbits for years with no problem so I didn't get the extra coverage this time. And of course, this is the time I need it! 🤣
i have my first real need to do this now. I am on my second ever charge if it, and i ket futbit run down to just 10 percent of battery remaining. It freaked out then when on charge, cycling between clock face, fitbit logo and red-circkevwhite cross. Sooo, i gad two friends try it, same problem happens. It's only October '21 now, hopefully they'll get these bugs sorted out soon.
It shouldn’t. As long as you are able to sync your data first, no method should delete your historic data (once synced, it should be in your Fitbit account unless you request your data to be deleted). At worst you would lose any unsynced data, but that isn’t supposed to happen for restarting your device, only for factory resetting or clearing all user data from your device (which isn’t what this video is about).
Did not work! I followed the instructions to get the charge 5 unstuck from showing startup logo, but after the screen went blank for 15 sec, the startup logo came back
Does not cure "black screen"...big issue on this model. Fitbit unable to solve on the phone support. Offering a 35% discount to purchase a replacement! 😞
Feb 1, 2023 - if you are here because your iphone Pro 13 won't stay synced or can't pair with your Fitbit Charge 5 - support said today this is an issue they are aware of and trying to resolve. They could not resolve it for me and told me I may need to wait until they sort out and, I assume, apply a fix.

How many people have had their charge 5 completely die on them? I have had three charge 5s die within 6 months of getting them.

My fitbit died.d during the night. Now I can't reset it to today's date. It is still working on yesterdays data. This did not help.
