Ian went home to the Lord 12/29/22. Thanks for the songs cowboy. You where one of my favorites. And brought a lot of joy riding down the road singing along with you.
Thank you Ian...the epitome of a cowboy poet. My Dad was like you also. He wore riding boots and western hats...and he spun stories/yarns in an old- fashioned way. Guys like you built our western Canadian culture. So...thank you.
Ian Tyson Has been my favorite singer of all time. Way back when it was Ian n Sylvia... He is a great singer n song writer he puts life into every song.. God Bless
When I look out my window every morning, off in the distance I see the old Kittredge barn in Summer Lake, Oregon. I helped move the old ranch house where William “Bill Kit” Kittredge senior summered and hayed long before I was born. He pioneered the MC Ranch and many smaller ones. He is an unsung giant of the American West. Ian’s song makes this lost history a little less unsung😃❗️
I was so intrigued by this song, I studied the MC Ranch story then took a 4000 mile road trip from Oklahoma to look at the old ranch, have a beer at the Adel store, and find Mr. Kitt's gravesite. An incredible story.
My brother and I live in ST. Marie’s Idaho seventy years same place the Benewha road We have fifty years of D N A in three running quarter horse studs . This song lets me know just how blest I’ve been , because we picked out and road all there relatives .
I played this for my German roommate in college and he loved it. asked for a copy. its a great song in itself, thought it means something special to some of us.
I love this song. Ian Tyson is such a great writer and performer. The first time I ever heard this song was by Brenn Hill, a talented young Utah singer/songwriter. Both versions are awesome.
Its so nice that Ian Tyson went back to his roots even though he is divorced from his first wife, Sylvia Tyson. He's a very talented country singer and songwriter. And most Americans like me truly appreciate Canadian country music. It makes American country music seem heavily modified that it literally lost its true country roots. Its time for most American country music artists to learn something from a legend like Ian Tyson.
sang this in recent Portland concert. still as good as ever. no one realizes how influential Oregon ranching was to the history of the West. too bad Oregon has become a Lefty liberal cesspool and anything East of the Cascades is considered expendable.
Bob Boise III Why politicize a great song and way of life? The song is about change, missing and respecting the past, wondering quietly between the lines about the memories that the future will bring. Let the song sing…….
+Joe Nadeau because there are those of us from Oregon that remember the log trucks rolling through town, hearing the talkie tooters echoing off the hills and the snarl of chain saws bringing down the timber. The REAL Oregon, not the politically correct liberal left that have taken over the best state in the Union and turned it into a cess pool of sodomy and hipsters. THAT'S why he and I are upset.
Secede like Northern Ca and Southern Or are trying to do - to form the state of Jefferson! I hope they're successful - getting a lot of support right now! "The recent movement for statehood started on September 3, 2013, when the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 in favor of withdrawal from California to form a proposed state named Jefferson. ... On January 15, 2015, three more counties, Glenn, Tehama, and Yuba, submitted their official declarations as well."
Fantasize about your brown shirt, white pure, destroy everything "Jefferson" all you want. It will never happen. It is not in the constitution to succeed only to enter. If he were alive today he would kick all your asses.
Thank you so much for putting all of these good Ian Tyson songs on YT. I love him. I guess you do, too. This is a special favorite of mine. Thank you, thank you.
@ akountreegal Fantastic and creative slide show that really enhanced one of Ian's best songs. Like one of your other commenters, I've followed Ian's recording career since 1963. I have all the Ian & Sylvia albums and all of Ian's solo albums. I don't prefer one period of his career over any other. He truly is one of the most prolific and creative songwriters of the 20th and 21st centuries.
thanks lin, this is awesome. it's on my favorite ian tyson album, "all the good'uns" :) mister tyson has been a fave of mine since i was knee high to a grasshopper. thank you for posting
Thanks for video , always enjoy Ian Tyson. This song is special , I too have sat the hurricane deck of some good horses and some rank, and some mornings good horse could be a bit rank.
Unfortunatly, with this bad economy, more of the big remudas for top ranch and performance horses are selling out for pennies on the dollor. With low prices and high feed bills I Hope I can hold on to my small brood band of good mares and my two good studs, otherwise this outfit is history...
countrygal, you honour us with this video, almost looks like Ian dfid the filming himself, lol. Hey, just glad that some of you out there like that Ol' Ian, cause he is starting to feel those winters now, so keep him warm with your like, even irf he is a damn curmudgeon, lol
@ImaRodeomom Thank you for your nice comment....lol..I think some people just need something to grip about...makes it all worth it though when I get a comment like yours...Thank you so much...!!
I haven't even seen the movie..and as for people being gay...my brother-in-law was and I also have a niece that is...I love them dearly, and they know it.. I guess if I was so unhappy about the picture being in there...I could have deleted the video and redone it, I didn't...Guess that should say something...but anyway...Ian is still singing...his new CD is great..although his voice has changed from his illness..he is still awesome...! Sorry if I have offended you. That was never my intention
i live in oregon and i know the horses and the people who worked this ranch and dont kid your self these horses were real horses dont cheat them and they wont cheat you! and it was a sad day in oregon not orgun i love ian but that was the only part of the song that i did not like. and dont think that any of these horses in this song couldnt put you in the ground if you didnt know how to ride!
RIP IAN TYSON. YOU ARE A UNIQUE CANADIAN ICON. MAY YOU RIDE ON THE JUDITH BASIN RANGE IN MONTANA WITH CHARLIE RUSSELL. AND ON YOUR LONGVIEW RANCH RANGE.
ya see there is the mc horses, and then there is Ian, both endangered species, the only thing I know for sure is that love what we have today, tomorrow it might be gone, like tthe MC horses
LOL linny, i see that the disliker was here... imagine having such ambition, to travel through you tube finding videos that have only likes on'em and clicking dislike :) can you say "peebrain"? i like to tell people like that "and don't let the door hit ya on the way out" :) this is another one of your good uns... more please
@pilsnerperformance Oh Yikes..I never saw that movie and had no idea that picture came from there...I am sorry...your right...I would have never put that in if I would have known...!!
You know..I made the video..sorry I can't please everyone...but I tried...its about Ian's music anyway....what pictures I used..seemed to fit the words ...
Sorry, I am not used to commenting on videos, but I think you missed my point. You accidentally used a photo from a movie about gay cowboys. But then, when someone pointed this out, you apologized. Why? I am sure that gay men were as much a part of the "Old West" as they are of any other part of society. Regarding Ian's music, I thank you and the others who has posted all of his more recent recordings. I had no idea he was still recording. Just got 2 of his cds. The guy is amazing.
@Stclaircad I don't know who you are calling an idiot...I didn't write the song...I didn't sing the song...I made a video from it...no more...So don't be calling me an idiot..maybe you better call Mr. Tyson and tell him...and I won't tell you who I think the "real" idiot it here,....get a life buddy...and go someplace and look at someone else's videos....stay away from mine..!!! Thanks...

I was lucky enough to live for 3 years at the base of Picture Rock Pass on the Silver Lake side in the mid 80's. Some of the best years of my life.
I was so intrigued by this song, I studied the MC Ranch story then took a 4000 mile road trip from Oklahoma to look at the old ranch, have a beer at the Adel store, and find Mr. Kitt's gravesite. An incredible story.
You aren't the only one. Wife and I had a beer and fries at the Adel Store summer 2019.
If you're interested, there's a great book about the MC Ranch, "A Hole in the Sky".
All of the above…..is frickin’ amazing! If only you could have visited where Banjo was …. He didn’t go easy
Tears in my eyes....history! Let's all remember.
My brother and I live in ST. Marie’s Idaho seventy years same place the Benewha road We have fifty years of D N A in three running quarter horse studs . This song lets me know just how blest I’ve been , because we picked out and road all there relatives .
Met Ian after a concert in Peterborough Ontario in 2014, I told him MC Horses was my favourite song, he said it was his also.
I was at that sale. Exciting but sad day, the passing of an era. The world will never be the same.
Ian is simply the best.... even at 81!
This is the epitome of Western music. Ian is one of a kind.
RIP Ian Tyson. Never be another like him!!!!
I was one of the last men on the MC and I didn't see many pictures of the cavy I knew at all.
If you still here I’d love to hear about the MC
I branded for an outfit that grazed old MC land. Lunch was of course at the Adel store. A good poem came out of it.
this song was played at my best friend tate smith's funeral this song has never been the same ever since
Great Song , Thank you . Mostly I listen to singers Ian Tyson, Dave Stamey , Chris Ledoux,, and Red Steagall, this is great music.
Ronald Morneault
You should have a listen to Corn Lund- Truth comes out
My kind of music, too.
You should listen to tom russle.
I played this for my German roommate in college and he loved it. asked for a copy. its a great song in itself, thought it means something special to some of us.

Ian sang this in Pendleton, and it was so good!!!!!
This is real life! Enhanced by Ian Tyson's singing, but, real life never the less! Love you Ian Tyson! :)
Listening to this song bawling my eyes out hoping I don't have to sell my grandparents place one day
you wouldnt be the first- trust me- biggest mistake I ever made, even though I had to
You will

When you know how to use Google lol
Ian Tyson was a real working cowboy and that shows in his songs

David
one his later works, but one of his greatest IMO.
I had to look it up, but the MC outfit was real. Adds just another layer to this amazing song.
@ akountreegal

grip about...makes it all worth it though when I get a comment like yours...Thank you so much...!!
Very nice, thanks.
I'm not a real western fan, but I like Ian Tyson. I'd class him along with Johnny Cash, just a bit more subtle.
@SlingerDun there was a gelding named banjo. He Came from Millers @ Rock Creek Ranch up by Frenchglenn.
my dad is the buckaroo on the left in front of the red barn haha

You know..I made the video..sorry I can't please everyone...but I tried...its about Ian's music anyway....what pictures I used..seemed to fit the words ...
Sad - I wonder how many went to slaughter?
It is sad that you find it necessary to apologize for using a photo from "Brokeback Mountain" accidentally or otherwise in your video.
Sorry, I am not used to commenting on videos, but I think you missed my point. You accidentally used a photo from a movie about gay cowboys. But then, when someone pointed this out, you apologized.
