    May John Saunders and Keith Jackson both rest in peace. The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl national championship game between the Miami (FL) Hurricanes and the Ohio State Buckeyes was nationally televised by ABC in 2003.

      Not to argue or offend, but...
      Keith Jackson sucked.
      All hype, like Cosell and Vitale. Check him out on any classic, always making mistakes and saying dumb stuff like “allllmost intercepted.”
      Also I think he and Woody hated each other, so there’s that.
      I think most broadcasters suck (Joe Buck🤮) but I love the good ones.
      John Smoltz is awesome.
      I think Joel Klatt is spot on and doesn’t have vocal diarrhea like that bag o wind herbstreit.

      It's just their way of dealing with it.
      Remember, they were told all month long that the title belonged to them. And that all they had to do was show up to Sun Devil Stadium on Jan 3, 2003 at 8pm to pick it up.
      So naturally when that didn't happen they felt like it was taken from them.
      Remember, Dan Fouts is one of them, he who originally started the controversy. ESPN had to make an entire show about how it wasn't the ref's fault. Just because the guy calling the game says so, doesn't make it correct. He felt just as cheated too.
      I have only a select few people whose opinions I'll listen to on football. I block out all the fans and all the talking heads that spew nonsense.

    "So one corner of the stadium gets very quiet here, as the 'red' roars of the Buckeyes are up by 10." One CORNER. That stadium was easily 80-20 tOSU fans. Just amazing. And let's take time to applaud Keith Jackson's superb commentary even in his late, final years. Truly a legend. Let's also applaud because we know Dan Fouts is not working as a color commentator anymore. Truly...horrendous.

      Ohio State must have the #1 largest Fan base; their games are the highest ratings. Someone like me, a lifelong New Yorker is a fan thru Ohio Cousins. You got family in Ohio where Buckeyes are everything, seems the natural thing to do. They haven't had a sucking era; of losing seasons in anyone's lifetime; besides Losing to TTUN too often in the 90's. Only Alabama can compete with that many decades; all the other big dogs over decades has SOME suckness. That said, Miami probably wins this 9/10 times, Props to OSU for that fight of the decade.

    I’m so sick of Miami fans bitching about the pass interference call!! If they had replay, this game would’ve never gone to overtime. That was a completion and a first down, right before the last punt... OSU would’ve pretty much run out the clock! There’s an ESPN documentary on the 5 reasons you can’t blame the pass interference call for Miami’s loss. They bring up the “non-catch” call and bring up several good points, that shows why Miami was lucky to even be in overtime!!! Also, Miami had the ball 1st and goal at the 2 yard line and couldn’t tie it up.... You lost, get the F@#+ over it.... Miami was Out coached, Out hustled, and out played! Look how many NFL players were on that Miami team! They thought OSU and The Big Ten were a Joke! Ohio State were 14.5 point underdogs going into that game! Can we just agree that OSU deserved that hard fought, incredible win!

      This right here. I've rewatched this game quite a few times and it really didn't dawn on me till today. As a huge buckeye fan, I've always felt, awesome we won, but couldn't help but think, that pass interference while deserved, should almost not have been called. It was in his hands, with the dude sliding down his body, more than a fair chance to catch... until today....
      Ok, pass interference is called. Right or wrong, it was called. Ok, fine. What happens next. And as you state...
      Miami takes over. They get a pass interference, rightly so. Putting them on the 5 with 4 downs. They burn the first two and get on the 2 yard line... at what point do you say, "forget that call on us against osu and just punch it in." At the 2, dorsey could have just fallen in on 3rd and 4th down.
      They had a shot. It wasn't the previous pass interference on Miami to Ohio. Go bucks

    Miami had more talent and should have won this game, but it has nothing to do with the PI call. In fact, they were lucky to not get flagged for almost taking krinzel’s head off a play or two before. My point lies with just how bad the O-Line played relative to the rest of the Canes, and Dorsey ended up turning in one of his worst games due to that pressure. It would serve to be a harbinger to the type of NFL career he had too.

      Defensive holding. Nice try. Including late in the 4th, when Gamble caught the pass after being held. And was wrongly ruled incomplete. The game should have never even gone to OT. Especially knowing they held all night as Miami did not have the athletes to compete with Gamble and Jenkins. So they held all night, as Glenn Sharpe admitted post game. "They did it all night, why call it now". The official grew a conscience. That's why.

    • @mikelee7318
      @mikelee7318 2 года назад

      @@nickma71 LOL! Antrel Rolle and Kelly Jennings, two 1st rounders, can’t compete with Gamble, a CB playing WR, and Jenkins? Sean Taylor isn’t athletic enough? Rolle and Taylor both made multiple pro bowls. If not for his tragic murder Sean Taylor was well on his way to the HOF. Gamble was a solid NFL cb, nothing more, and Mike Jenkins was a possession receiver who never even had 800 yards receiving in a single season. Most years he was a 500-600 yard guy. He played with Matt Ryan for three years and was never a difference maker.
      The ball hit Gamble in the hands, he had a clean shot at catching it, and he dropped it. Then the ref steps in and bails him out.

    • @mikelee7318
      @mikelee7318 2 года назад

      @@nickma71 The point Sharpe is making is that the DB’s for both teams were allowed to be physical all night. Gamble was tugging on Dre Johnson’s jersey all night at the LOS. Dustin Fox did was grabbing Parrish and Sands. Refs weren’t calling ticky tack penalties. Then on a game deciding play they decide to call as petty a penalty as a ref can call.
      That’s the point Sharpe was making.
      McGahee getting hurt was a decisive point in the game. Miami’s ground game was starting to cook. The injury was also very deflating for the Canes as a team. I know a few guys on that team and they all said it was definitely a distraction. They all knew McGahee planned to go to the NFL after that game and seeing an injury that they thought could jeopardize his career is gonna hurt your ability to focus. He ended up being a 1st round pick anyways and having an excellent career but at the time his teammates don’t know that.

    I'm retired from Ohio State University and I worked in the Lincoln Tower which sits right next to the stadium. I'm not and never really was a Buckeye football fan. Coach John Trussell was a competent coach but as a person, he was a huge hypocrite. That said, speaking purely as a football fan that 2002 season what's the most exciting college football season I have ever seen. It's too easy to look back and say well Ohio State went undefeated and it IS Ohio State but if you look closer there were several come-from-behind Miracle wins that put them lossless and ranked #2 and gets them in this game. And then the national championship game itself is that double overtime Thriller I don't think I've ever seen a greater college football game than that. What's a miracle. The squeakers included Cincinnati, Wisconsin, and Purdue, all of which were teams Ohio state would normally blow out, and then Michigan. It was easy to think that Because of that heart-in-your-throat, nail-biter wins against teams that weren't that good that maybe Ohio State wasn't really that good. But they kept winning those nail-biters all the way up to and including that incredible National Championship double overtime win. A game that was one the greatest college games of all time. It ends with a goal-line stand as good as it gets. From 1st and goal from the 1-yard line to 4th and goal from the 1-yard line. The fake running play fails to block a blitzing cornerback who gets the QB by the jersey spinning him around as he throws wildly.

Should have never been the big punt return or overtime. Buckeyes win fair and square in regulation. And, I don’t even like Miami. It’s funny how Ohio St fans always cry when they lose about how it is the refs who beat them (see Clemson game two years ago as an example) or that they beat themselves. They never give credit to the other team beating them. Funny how it doesn’t work the same way when you ask them about this game.

      Right or wrong. Miami got another chance. They so much got a chance that their first play, with a right call of pass interference, got them on the 5 yard line with 4 downs. They blew threw their first 2, putting them on the 2 yard line.
      You can get made at the pass interference in the first OT. Who you can't blame in OT#2 is the bucks for stopping Miami on the TWO.YARD.LINE.
      Also, the game is 20 years old. Don't know why you'd equate emotions to current buckeyes. They've been quite successful throughout the last 15 years
