I heard Pfitzner conduct other Beethoven symphonies and wasn't impressed, but this performance is absolutely mind blowing. The flexibility of tempo had me spellbound. A truly great performance.

Hard to believe this is from 1929! The sound quality is comparable to that of recordings twenty years in the future! Very wide sonic area. It actually sounds like it was recorded in a concert hall rather than a closet.
