- Tapasya episode 23 - CRISIS MANAGEMENT ON STAGE (Part 1)
This episode features some interesting episodes of handling unforeseen situations on stage, from the archives of SDN...
*Handling the sudden absence of a member in a group while the performance is going on!
*Tackling the situation when the wrong music track is played in a group presentation!
*Enduring minor injuries which unexpectedly happen during the performance! (Harinie stepping on the stem of her fallen earring, and the stem perforating the sole of her foot while dancing; Nishkala and Sai Smrithi bleeding their foot due to the anklet rubbing against their skin, while dancing)
*Sudden surprises on stage which demand immediate solutions! (With a clipping of Harinie tying her bells while dancing Suddha Nrittam)
Unexpected happenings on stage is quite common in the life of all artistes. In this episode and the next, we present a few anecdotes and snippets from the records of Sridevi Nrithyalaya...
Tapasya - the training sessions, is a series of videos that will be published on a monthly basis (as episodes) on the last day of every month.
The students featuring in Tapasya series have about 6-8 classes every month. Each episode of Tapasya is a cumulative overview of what is taught to them during the course of the month.
Along with the training sessions of the children, Tapasya also holds inputs on teaching techniques from Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan and useful tips from the regular performers of Sridevi Nrithyalaya.

Harini Jeevitha is called legend for a reason. How she beautifully managed in that situation, blows my mind.❤️
Harinie akka! Your presence of mind, dedication, devotion to the art form is something beyond words! I admire you and Sheela mam more and more after watching every video. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 Kudos to SDN!
I couldn't even imagine how others managed without bhairavi.. and final thiruvannamalai pose super 😍😍😍 and harini managing to tie it on stage.. so calm and casual. Keep it up girls. Let the gods and goddesses shower their blessings on you and share it with everyone who watches your performances. I love your team so much 💐💐💐
Thank you so much Ma'am! 🙏🏻 It is a very important subject for every dancer for when we are on stage. It helped me a lot. Thank you! 👐🌷
Harinie 🙏🏻 That solo was extraordinary! She handled it like a true professional!
Ma’am , you have raised gems. Each one of your artistes are beyond great. I wish I got my Bharatanatyam training under you when I was young. I am 35 now, a mother and still dance. I don’t have the same stamina due to my c section though
I salute every dancer's presence of mind. Naming their plight "interesting" was something amazingly positive. Cannot thank the SDN team enough for this inspiration. Thoroughly enjoyed the episode🙏
Wow that's called A Dancer..... next to Army person who though bleeds saves the life on pat despite a bruise or bleeding the dancer saves her Art n Guru's name!!! Hats off 👍👍
Wow, last harini's tieing the ghungroo was excellent. Because she didn't leave her expression, so it made the performance more natural. Congratulations for all dancers for that pose, all deserve a great applause👍🏻👏🏼👏🏼
Kudos to all of your presence of mind and, of course, experience helps! Maybe you already know this, but just thought I will share this nevertheless - when you tie a Kathak-type ghungroo insert your big toe into the looped end; wrap the jingled ropes round and round till you reach only the double-stranded edge; hold that end tightly and take your big toe out of the looped end and hold that end also tightly; pass one of the strands through the loop and yank it to meet the other strand; then secure a knot. This way, your ghungroo will never get untied no matter how vigorous your performance. The only downside is, it may cut off your blood circulation a bit if too tight.
I love how even while tying the loose thread Harinie was graceful and it looked like it was part of the performance. Major inspiration right there! All these crisis build a dancer's self esteem and encourage them to do better and be more cautious and alert. Great video ma'am!
I would have cried onstage if I was confronted with these experiences. Hats off to you guys✌👏👏
A mark of a true dancer is making sure that the audience never knows when something is wrong. I couldn’t tell anything was out of place. Well done !
Yep, only during a crisis the character is revealed. Hats off, gals!
Just see Harinie's expression in 4.28 its too good ...
Mam it is very important topic to be discussed I also had similar experiences...
Maam was able to see your prgrm in kochi on 1 May, was so happy to take a photo with you and harinie ....can't express my happiness and want to see you again...😢😢😢
This is just AMAZING! I am no one to comment on your dedication and Bakthi for the art Harinie akka, Sheela mam and the whole team. May God bless you guys for bringing forward this art form to illiterates like me through this medium. P.S : the epic part of the video is when Bhairavi akka said you guys should thank me for giving you this experience. That was HILARIOUS!
All of them are extremely plucky to have sailed through odd situations like that! More power to them!
This is wonderful teaching. Just like the body's system "all though every part of our bodies has individual roles, every entity is beneficial for each one. When there's an issue or absence of one or more the body's intelligence has a "duty to carry on operations as normal" it is most glorious to have a perfect working system yet that takes ultimate discipline." #mindbodyspirit "how can we know to improve without mistakes?" This is part of awareness 👌 "Team work makes the dream work" #👍🙏😊💌 #keepon 👏👏👏
Honestly, all these crisis are not really noticed even after you mentioned it and watching it several timesexcept those bruises and harini's Bell's thread coming off.kudos to their presence of mind 🙏

Akka's all your experiences r very useful. I will surely say that if I get into such problems then I will surely use my brain and your tips.
Tq for your tips😊😊
During Perur Natyanjali this year, there was slight drizzling throughout the event, in between the audio went of for a few seconds, but the the entire team of young dancers remained calm and composed rearranged themselves and once the audio was back the performance continued as if nothing had happened. During the concluding remarks respectful guru mentioned that they performed Shivamayam with half the usual strength of performers. Was blessed to witness how team performed and managed the crisis.
Yes sir. That was a wonderful experience for all of us.
The occasional challenges when live happens 😀😀; learning experience for all. Thanka for sharing, we learnt too.

And Harini akka, u were amazing in removing your earing of your feet!! I hope that your leg didn't get bruised as I too had got 2 of my safety pins into my heel when I had done a performance in 2015.

Awesome explanations madam. I will help a lot to dancers to improve their performance and management on stage. Thank you for such a good vedio.👌👌👌
This is very motivational and helpful!!! Hats off to all the dancer!!!
That was awesome ma'am...The lathangi varnam's management was much thrilling to listen...Kudos for the dancers who had active mind up on the open stage...Even i had to face a lot of problems like stepping up on my piece of chain fallen down and so on... yet completing the performances with same grace...Those performances literally give us very good experiences...but SDN's group performance's management was so interesting to listen...it shows the whole troupe's dedication towards dance...Kudos to everyone Ma'am..!!!!
Best wishes
Similar thing happened to us while we were dancing the lathangi varnam.it was not just a performance but it was a competition.we were dancing and suddenly the music stopped because of some technical issue and we all were around the age group of 7 years . It was a group performance.we didn't know what to do.all we could do was stand on the stage like golu bommais with anjali hastha.😂 and after the issue was solved a wrong music track was played. Our teacher was saying us to exit the stage which I didn't notice 😆😆 all my group members exited leaving me on stage.i was too focused on the light that was falling on me and I just didn't realise that they were out of the stage and I had to be alone on stage 😂😂 the group performance finally turned into a solo performance 😂😂 this was a great experience for us .( I was 7 years old)...
Quite interesting

Madam, As one child artist among said it's all 'manodharmam' on stage yar. Let us continue dancing... heard the whole saying in one voice faithfully..,,found all very excited to say about fouls done in past plays___ lucky there is no foul calls.... so take it easy.

What is the name of varnam danced by harinie akka and nishkala in the video?
Both are Sri Muralidharan's compositions. Harinie did 'Gaanam isaithu' ( Ragamalika) and Nishkala's is 'Konjum Salangai' (Lathangi)
