I am working at Baskin&Robbins and this video literally making me cry. It’s such a beautiful history. I will work even harder after watching this video. Thank You so much! May God bless You.
I worked at 3 different B&R's, late 70s early 80s. Best item on the menu by far was the milkshake/malt, made in metal cups in the old-fashioned machines out of any flavor or combo of flavors in the store. Best stand-alone flavors in my humble opinion: 3. Mint Chip, 2. Rocky Road, 1. Baseball Nut.
I miss baskin Robbins.. they are truly my childhood delight. I would save my allowance every week to buy their ice cream. I haven't ate a b & r ice cream in a long time. Thanks for posting this😁
As a kid, we would sometimes go to BR for Ice Cream. I loved the Rocky Road Chocolate. Sometimes if you asked, they would give you a free poster of some flavor. I had one for years in my room. (Bavarian Chocolate) 👍
I remember getting a free cone every year on my birthday. I always picked the bubble gum flavor. I suppose because most other flavors you could get at the store. I'm not sure what age I was when the visits stopped. My Dad driving me to get that free cone was a family tradition. RIP Dad. I miss you.
It's good to hear a success story. So often when these businesses are acquired by others with diversified interests, the acquisition is treated as just another property, just another corporate asset. So often they lose their heart and soul after that or are absorbed by their former competitor or flipped to whomever may want the physical or trademark assets.
One of the joy's of my childhood was recieving a postcard every year in the mail from Baskin-Robbins, wishing me a Happy Birthday, and a invitation to come in for a free scoop. 🙂 Thanks for the memory!
When l was a kid in the 60s/70s my folks played bridge w/ the owner of a B&R franchise that was on my walk home from school. Bob Keels would give me freebies 'if l promised to never tell a soul'. I couldnt help it then and still cant. Goodtimes. Daiquiri Ice, Peppermint and the original chocolate mint. Havent been to one since they closed in the early 80s.
During that same time frame I had some playmates in the neighbor hood and their father had a franchise, on Saturday nights when he did the books he would let the 3 of us do odd jobs in the parlor and give us 2 scoops of any kind we wanted when we finished, mine was always pink bubble gum !
When I was a little girl living in Austin, TX during the summertime my mom would take me to Northwest Park to swim then after take me to Baskin Robins for an ice cream cone, 1 scoop of vanilla, and one chocolate. That Baskin Robins is long gone but those memories live on in me.
I remember the Baskin Robbins at the corner of Trestle Glen Rd and Wesley Ave in Oakland, Ca. Baskin Robbins was my first “real job” at the end of high school. I decorated cakes for years in La Verne, Ca. Great program! Thanks for the memories👍🏻❤️
they even have BaskinRobbins in Russia. !!! Russians LOVE Ice Cream, Morozhno. List Your Favorite Flavours : 1, Lightning 2, Thunder 3, video screen star fields 4, Jet Fuel aroma 5, Daiquiri Ice 6 Pink Bubble Gum 7, Dark Chocolate
This is a really wonderful series that you’ve put together. It takes the mystery out of whatever happened to the many businesses that I used to frequent, but are no longer around. As a baby boomer adult, it brings back countless memories growing up in the 1950’s and 60’s. Can you please include the credits to the beautiful piano music playing in the background? It really helps make the videos relaxing to watch. Thank you.
I still remember my grandmother taking me to Baskin Robbins as a child. It was in a shopping center near her house and featured schoolroom style seating, the plastic chairs with little desks attached. It smelled vaguely of refrigerant and somewhat like a bakery. They had ice cream with bubble gum in it which was my favorite. Next door was a Buster Brown kids’ shoe store so often ice cream was followed by a new pair of shoes. That store closed over thirty years ago and the new location, which featured a drive thru, stayed open until a couple of years ago. The ice cream was still as good as it used to be but for some reason that store just couldn’t make it. It was expensive but worth it. At least the old Mom and Pop soft serve ice cream stands from my youth are still around but that does not compare to a cone from Baskin Robbins!
Back in the 70s my mom took us to one occasionally as a treat, but I have no memory of where it was. I have never even seen one as an adult. Good memories.
My first job ever was at the Baskin Robbins on Beltline Rd in Irving TX in the early to mid 70’s. My best friends family at the time owned the store. When I started, a single dip cone was 19 cents and a double dip was 37 cents. I remember the crowds in the summertime. Customers lined the whole length of the freezers about 3 people deep. We had a ticket machine and everyone that came in grabbed a ticket and waited for their number to be called. The store was open until 10:30 pm during the summer. After it closed, everyone had to stay and cleanup, sweep, mop, etc and the the store manager would unlock the doors at 11:00 pm and let us out to go home. I remember one night we were all focused on cleaning and then heard someone banging on the front door. We all looked up at the door and there was a guy jumping up and down waving at us and the only thing he had on was a stocking cap. Once we all got a look, he took off. We called those people “streakers” back then. It was a strange fad at the time. LOL. Lots of memories of working there. I have too many to tell here.
I will never forget the summer that Baskins-Robbins first opened an ice cream shop in my home town of Charleston, S.C. There were so many peope wanting ice cream, you had to take a number and wait your turn.Sometimes the line would be out the door, but the wait was worth it!!
The Baskin-Robbins in my town closed because the medical center that took over the strip mall where it was at wanted more space and took over the last one in my area. It's really sad because that's when B-R really started to get good again. They would show commercials for their milkshakes and I would really want one, but they shut down the only one that was left. I believe it was around the early to mid 2000s when this happened. South Bend/Mishawaka, Indiana area, in case anyone was wondering.
My first experience with Baskin-Robbins was when my dad was taking me to a follow up hospital doctor's visit and as a treat we went to a store not far from the appointment. My first flavor was pistachio almond on a sugar cone and it was heavenly!! I remember how good the taste of it was to this day!
There was a really nice one at the Carolina Circle Mall in Greensboro, NC when I was growing up back in the 70s. The mall was so cool....it even had an inside skating rink! Now it’s all long gone and a Super Walmart sits on the site.
We still have a Baskin-Robbins in our town, but it is in with Togo's sandwiches. It's weird when you have a craving for ice cream and you walk in and get hit with the smell of hot pastrami. I still love Jamoca Almond Fudge, Peanut Butter and Chocolate.......and of course, Chocolate Mint Chip.
I owned a Baskin Robbins drive thru in Jacksboro, TN back in the 1990`s. Was something to remember and the town loved there Banana Splits. Thanks for the video a lot of memories.
Growing up, we used to go down to where the commuter train line ran through town. My brother at age 3 had a thing for trains. Mom would buy us each an ice cream cone at the Baskin-Robbins near the station and we'd sit and eat them and watch the trains go by. The store owner used to give the kids in town empty ice cream cartons and we'd cover them in contact paper and make waste baskets out of them. Back then, raspberry sherbet and grape ice were my go-to flavors. Nowadays I'm a chocolate-peanut butter swirl girl all the way!
That was a surprise! You had the Baskin-Robbins from my childhood at 2:15-2:25. It was about 6 or 8 blocks from my house and several of us would walk there on Saturdays or Sundays to get a cone. 2 scoops please! I discovered your channel a week ago and I've been watching a couple of videos ever since. I'd say it's nostalgia, but I'm enjoying the ones for companies I never heard of just as much.
I don't remember 5 cents a scoop but I do remember when it was 10 cents a scoop during my high school back in the late 70s. Fortunately you can still get the brand at any Rite Aid drug store, and I have one within walking distance from my house as well as a Baskin Robbins. However, I do prefer Thrifty ice cream because it's cheaper and IMO it tastes better.
There are plenty of them around. They aren't going anywhere. The 31 flavors I think got its roots that you can have a different flavor every day of the month, but I really don't think many people go to Baskin-Robbins every day. After a month, they would be too fat to fit through the door. 31 is also a good number for inventory. Trying to stock many more flavors would make things more difficult.
Whenever I go for ice cream I'll ask for strawberry flavor..In Indianapolis reminds me of my deceased aunt she always drove me in Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop 👍🏻
As a youngster it was pralines and cream and rocky road for me. Never got plump still the same weight I was in college and I can still tear up some flavors. Lucky guy I guess health wise at 57, found cycling young.
WOW! Owned by Dunkin Donuts. I never knew this. My dad used to take us, back in the 60's and 70's, to the 1201 S Victory Blvd in Burbank California location because, if I remember correctly, used to be the cooperate office. This is where they would put out their new flavors for the public to try and we tried a lot of them too. Some we liked, some we loved and some not so good. The place was always busy each time we stopped there in the summer with families ordering and eating ice cream all around us. My dad told me years later that Baskin and or Robbins would be behind the counter helping serving the customers and getting their feed back from the new flavors. I don't remember if they did serve my family but who knows maybe they did once or twice back then. Great memories there.
At 3:34 that looks like a Whataburger building. When i was a kid in the 70's I would always get a scoop of chocolate fudge and a scoop of french vanilla. They still have chocolate fudge but I didn't see french vanilla on their online menu.
When I was 17 back in the 70s, I used to have a real hankering for coffee milkshakes from b&r. I was always dieting back then but I couldn't resist those shakes when I went out with my friends!
Dunkin' came roaring into Salt Lake City a few years back. About a year ago every location closed. Everyone already knew better places for coffee and that's what the store thought would keep them alive. I remember going to BR as a kid though and finding bubble gum ice cream. Why would someone want bubble gum in ice cream?
In the 70s and 80s, we had plenty of ice cream parlors to choose from. I'd love to go back to that time. Baskin-Robbins, Swenson, and Ashburn's to name a few. Braum's is probably the best today. And most reasonably priced. BR is still quite good also.
@@danielulz1640 For awhile, we had two Swenson's that I knew of in Fort Worth, Texas. One of them was on the Wedgwood Village shopping center property near Old Granbury Road, where Mr. Quick Hamburgers was previously. The other was in the Hulen Mall less than 2 miles away. Both of those locations closed during the 80s, and I don't know if Swenson's still exists.
Blue Laws were still in effect where I lived in the late 1970s, but the mall stayed open for anyone who wanted to window shop or go to the movie theater and eateries, which were allowed to do business on Sunday. My father often took us there hoping we would tire ourselves out running around the big empty spaces. Then we could pick out a cone at the Baskin-Robbins outside the mall's movie theater. I was partial to Pralines and Cream, but sometimes got the Daiquiri Ice instead.
Once a big corporation comes in,it’s never as good as the one you remembered as a young person. Greed, profit, not customer service. It was awesome in the 1960s. Cheers.
Our first neighborhood Baskin-Robbins opened in a strip mall around 74-75. We thought the place was like Disney with the free samples and colors. Our favorite at the time was the Bubble gum ice cream
Thank you for these wonderful memories. It’s a great way for us older folks to escape to yesterday’s life . There will never be a greater time .
@Oats J. Mule they were there ,just not as noticeable as today. And probably not as many.
I am working at Baskin&Robbins and this video literally making me cry. It’s such a beautiful history. I will work even harder after watching this video. Thank You so much! May God bless You.
God bless you too
I'm enjoying this entire series by you. I'm certain it takes a lot of research and work. Thank You.
I second that!
Quickly becoming my favorite channel. I just wish I had a DeLorean with a flux capacitor, and leave the 21st Century in the dust.
I third it!!
I fourth it
I fifth it!!
My first job was at Baskin-Robbins. I made the sundaes, splits, cakes, shakes, all of it. On our break we could eat whatever ice cream we wanted.
I took my grandson to Baskin Robins last night he loved it
Still today after 60 some years 31 flavors Mint Chip is my fav of all time.
Me too!,
They mention "Pralines & Cream" in the vid ... that was good too !
Yep Me Too!
Their ice cream cake was such a treat.
Great memories of this place from when I was young and times were simpler.
My father bought me ice cream roll cakes for my birthday. I love that memory!
Only ice cream cakes we ever had were Carvel
I remember! Train design with choc cake frosting and coffee ice cream so goo
I used to love Baskin Robbins French Vanilla ice cream. I was really sad when our store closed back in the mid -90's.
Our family would usually go on a weekends in Escondido, Ca. They had the little pink spoons for the taste tests that were free. Wow..
Wonder if the pink, brown, & white sign colors might represent Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla.
Good point!
That was my thought too. I would bet it's the case.
I love these historical stories on businesses. ❤

Mint chip with chocolate syrup milk shake. I will never forget it.
When they launched "Baseball Nut" they had a drawing for a baseball. I won one---I think I still have it somewhere!
My sister worked at Baskin Robins in Portland Oregon ride my skateboard late 80s visit her eat a five star sundae. Good times

I remember my little sister saying, "Let's go to Batman and Robin's for ice cream."

Yes, they were, I recall…
the lemon custard was one of the greatest things as a kid..

First time I had Mint Chocolate Chip was at a BaskinRobbins. It is still my favorite to this day! Sadly there are no stores in our area anymore.
We had a Baskin-Robbins here in Bristol. I miss their ice cream.
Alaska
We still have a few here in good ol Ventura, California. Love seeing the history of these wonderfully nostalgic businesses.

Mom and Dad both liked their Praline and Cream. Me it was what new flavor came out.
Pralines and Cream is my favorite flavor🙂
I like vanilla ice cream straight up with nothing else on it.
Back in the 70s my mom took us to one occasionally as a treat, but I have no memory of where it was. I have never even seen one as an adult.

I thank Baskin-robbins for getting me hooked on that peanut butter and chocolate ice cream. A unique taste you remember 40 years later.
Loving these videos, taking me back to a wonderful time ❤

Always remembering olden days.
The ad person that saw the 31 in BR is genius.
Does anyone remember Farrell's ice cream parlor and the pig bowl for parties?
Yes very well remember Farrels
Miss Farrell’s. Was so much fun.
If you ate the whole thing yourself they wrote your name on the wall and buried you out back.
Yup. I worked as a waiter at one in Torrance one summer.
@VintageVermilion She was?
Thank You for your series
Baskin Robbins ice cream shop is a favorite that we Loved to go to for ice cream thanks for sharing this back in the day video.😘😊
My favorite flavor is the chocolate n peanut butter. You can actually find it in some markets today.
Your programing is Outstanding! I also love the back ground music. Keep up the great work!
When they introduced Gernan Chocolate cake in the the mid 1970s I only ate it when it was available
I absolutely love Baskin Robbins, but they are sooooo expensive!
Never had a problem Ice cream couldn't fix
Grew up on BR in Lexington Kentucky in the mid/late '70's.
I get my fix when I get down to Gatlinburg TN on an annual basis.
Growing up, we used to go down to where the commuter train line ran through town. My brother at age 3 had a thing for trains. Mom would buy us each an ice cream cone at the Baskin-Robbins near the station and we'd sit and eat them and watch the trains go by. They just closed the Baskin Robbins where I live. A sad day for all
Where we lived in Michigan it was just down the street and I loved 🥰 it too, my favorite was black cherry 🍒

Some grocery stores has Baskin &Robbins ice cream.
Does anyone remember. Thirty Drug stores. Ice cream 5 cents a scoop
They still sell Thrify's ice cream here in NorCal RiteAids.
I remember Thirty ice cream. They sell it in Rite Aid stores but it's not the same.
The ice cream counter at Thrifty was great. I pretty much always got a cone on my way out.
They had the cylindrical scoop. They sell them on Amazon and EBay!

Of all the Ice Creams out there, Baskin-Robbins was always my favorite.
Boy o boy, I got my first cavity working at a Baskin Robins IC Parlor when I was 18….still my fav IC place 👍🏼👏🏼
